Extended Summary

Maddy walks away from Matt in shock, processing the revelation that he has feelings for her. Matt says he was never going to act on them, but Maddy can’t talk about it, and leaves him alone. Maddy finds an apologetic Oscar waiting for her, worried she still believes he thinks his aeronautical course and moving with him to Perth is more important than her own goals. With her head still spinning about Matt, Maddy lets him off the hook, and Oscar can’t believe it.

The next day Matt bumps into Chris at the beach training for his Bronze Medallion. Meanwhile at the hospital, Andy keeps a vigil for Josh, still on life support. There’s been no change, so Hannah encourages him to go home, but Andy can’t leave Josh on his own. Hannah moves into the corridor, concerned for Andy if Josh doesn’t improve.

Still trying to make it up to Maddy, Oscar makes her a coffee as she studies. Matt arrives, and Maddy’s instantly uncomfortable. She drags Oscar off to the exam with her. Leah checks in with Matt, and he tells her Evelyn will be at the hospital all day. Leah’s scared that she’s pushing herself too hard. Evelyn gets to the hospital and takes over from Andy, and despite his protests, Hannah offers to take him home and make him a decent meal. Remaining tough, Evelyn sets up to start her study session.

Hannah encourages Andy to be strong as he comes to terms with his new reality. They’re reminded that Hannah learned to walk again, and Andy becomes nostalgic, regretting how their relationship ended. He leans in and kisses her for a brief moment before Hannah pulls back. Andy knows he’s stuffed up big time. He moves off to his car, and as Hannah follows him, he admits he still wants her. Hannah tells him she thinks he was just looking for comfort, so he plays along, and they agree to pretend it never happened. But privately, Andy knows that her still really loves her.

At the diner, Chris is confident ahead of his Bronze Medallion assessment tomorrow. John just wants Chris to make sure he’s ready. Maddy tells Roo what’s been going on with Matt. Roo advises Maddy to be clear with him – she’s flattered but nothing is going to happen. Roo thinks once she’s cleared the air she’ll feel better, but Maddy’s not looking forward to the conversation.

Leah drops in on Evelyn at the hospital, and worries that she’s not looking after herself, even though Evelyn tries to cover it up. She runs into Hannah at the diner and asks how Andy’s coping, and Hannah reveals that he kissed her. As they discuss if she’ll tell Chris, he enters and tells her that he’s going to treat her like a princess tonight for helping him with his Bronze Medallion training. Feeling guilty, Hannah tries to tell Chris what happened, but can’t bring herself to do it.

Oscar approaches Matt for help with Maddy, asking him to talk to her and find out if she’s still mad. It’s the last thing Matt wants to get involved in, and he snaps, telling Oscar to figure it out for himself.

Maddy finds Oscar at home with a gift for her – a nursing textbook. He apologises, and Maddy forgives him, hoping they can forget about it. As they move in for a kiss Matt enters, and Oscar thanks him for his advice. Oscar invites Matt to watch a movie with them, but he declines and hurries off. Maddy knows she can’t avoid having the inevitable conversation with him forever.

Hannah’s guilt intensifies, as she still can’t bring herself to tell Chris about Andy. When Chris heads off to prepare for his night of spoiling Hannah, Leah tells her that if Andy was just projecting and she’s not interested, she should put it out in the open – she’s got nothing to feel bad about. Keeping it to herself any longer will just make it worse. But Hannah’s getting less certain about her feelings as she prepares herself to fill Chris in.

Maddy tells Matt that it is flattering that he likes her, but she’s in love with Oscar, and just wants to stay friends. Matt agrees, but as she leaves, clearly it’s going to be easier said than done.

Dr Griffin brings Josh back from his tests, and tells Andy and Evelyn that he’s shown a slight improvement. It’s a small ray of light and nothing to get too overexcited about, but Andy’s going to cling to it for all it’s worth.

As Chris begins to prepare dinner, Hannah tells him that Andy kissed her, but it was a stupid misunderstanding and not a big deal. When Chris finds out that it happened earlier today he packs up, and as Hannah tries to keep talking he walks off, shattered, leaving her reeling.
