Extended Summary

Kat discovers that Charlotte’s murderer is Josh. He reveals details of the night that Charlotte was killed, including the fact that he gained his eyesight back earlier than he had led everyone believe. Although it’s clear that Josh acted in self-defence, he lies to Kat about the fact that Charlotte was blackmailing him and Andy over their involvement in the death of Jake Pirovic.

Nate and Tori struggle to save Hannah’s life after she collapses from an epidural haemorrhage. Before they can get her up to surgery to release the blood compressing onto her brain, Hannah goes into cardiac arrest. Nate and Tori perform CPR but Hannah’s systems have shut down and she is pronounced dead at the scene.

Evelyn is still in abject shock following the death of Oscar – unaware that her grief is about to increase tenfold.

Meanwhile, Maddy has been transferred back to Northern Districts Hospital, with soft tissue damage to her arm. She downplays the injury, wanting to be discharged so she can console Evelyn.

Josh pleads with Kat to wait until Evelyn has buried Oscar before she arrests him – he needs to be there for her. But Kat can’t make that promise, explaining that’s not how the law works. Their conversation is interrupted by a call from Nate to let her know that Hannah has passed away.

News of Hannah’s death starts to ripple around the Bay and Alf breaks it to a distraught Leah, Zac and Evelyn. Kat and Josh arrive, keeping quiet about the fact Josh is Charlotte’s murderer in the face of the family’s horrific situation. Evelyn becomes manic, unable to cope with the growing tragedy and she rushes out of the house.

Nate reveals to Ricky that he blames himself for the death of Hannah. He was too distracted by Ricky’s situation to notice the signs that Hannah had a brain injury. Despite Ricky’s protests, he refuses to accept that he is not responsible.

Maddy’s feeling more pain in her arm. Tori decides to give her more pain killers and keep an eye on her. When the pain and discomfort increases Tori does a thorough examination of Maddy’s arm, and sends her off to have more scans. It’s clear that Tori is concerned but she hides it from Maddy, Roo and Matt.

Kat talks to Roo and Alf who point out the huge toll that Hannah and Oscar’s deaths will have on Evelyn – who has already lost both parents and her sister Denny. Making a decision, Kat comes to find Josh and tells him that for Evelyn’s sake, she will keep his secret safe for now. He needs to be there for Evelyn.

Maddy is brought back from her scans. A grave Tori reveals that there is major damage to Maddy’s arm from the accident – the pressure is so great that the tissue is starting to die. If they don’t operate immediately the dead muscles will continue to release toxins that can be fatal. Maddy must have her arm amputated.
