All at sea over photos - Hewitt in court over unpaid Harbour cruise

Daily Telegraph

30 June 2005

A LUXURY Harbour cruise Lleyton Hewitt shared with new love Bec Cartwright before Christmas has landed the tennis star in a legal stoush.

Hewitt may need to call on his skills as a fighter in a different court, with the tennis star facing legal action over an incident on a Sunseeker yacht he hired from Blue Diamond Charters on December 21.

Blue Diamond Charters is operated by hotelier and lawyer Christopher Crawley, who is suing Lleyton Hewitt in the local court.

While the World No.2 battles Wimbledon, solicitor Michael Grinbergs yesterday appeared on behalf of Mr Crawley at the Downing Centre, where a civil claim has been lodged.

Mr Crawley would not comment on the case when contacted last night, but The Daily Telegraph understands Hewitt is yet to pay $5000 for hiring the 65ft yacht because photographs of him with Cartwright were published in a Sunday newspaper.

The couple had been dodging the spotlight amid rumours of their new love, but happily posed for photographer Steve Lunam, who was employed on the twilight cruise by Mr Crawley.

Acting on his client's wishes, Lunam used contacts to have the picture published in the Boxing Day edition of The Sun Herald, for which he works.

Hewitt allegedly objected to publication of the pictures, claiming he believed they were for the charter company's private use.

It is understood Hewitt alleged Mr Crawley profited from sale of the photos and considered launching legal action for loss of earnings.

Mr Lunam said last night the newspaper did not pay for the photograph.

Subsequent lucrative offers from women's magazines were also turned down.

Hewitt was represented in court by a solicitor who sought an adjournment following mention of a subpoena for documents from Mr Lunam.

Hewitt hired the 65ft cruiser for a four-hour dinner cruise with former Home and Away star Cartwright.

The now engaged and expecting couple enjoyed seafood, chicken and champagne on the sleek vessel.

The yacht featured teak and leather furnishings and cutting-edge communications and engine technology.

Nicole Kidman is another celebrity fan of the Sunseeker line, with her Manhattan 74 model moored in Pittwater.

The case was yesterday adjourned for return of subpoena on July 13.

"Hewitt hired the 65ft cruiser for a four-hour dinner cruise with former Home and Away star Cartwright."

Looks like Hewitt has been watching H&A.

That sounds like Beth and Rhys's romantic dinner.
