JODI Gordon is turning bad.

Insider can reveal the former soap star has signed to Channel Nine's next Underbelly series, titled Badness, which will explore the life of Sydney underworld figure Anthony Perish and the NSW Police's Strike Force Tuno.

While Gordon, 27, was unavailable to comment yesterday, her new role was confirmed by Screentime executive producer Des Monaghan. It's understood Gordon will play a reporter with The Slap's Jonathan LaPaglia to star as Perish.

Nine has been keen to sign up Gordon after she was said to have impressed drama heads two years ago with her audition for the now defunct Cops LAC.

Other stars who will appear in Underbelly include former East West 101 actor Matt Nable, McLeod's Daughters' Aaron Jeffrey, former Home And Away actor Josh Quong Tart and The Pacific's Leeanna Walsman.

Much secrecy has surrounded the production given Perish was only last week sentenced for the 2001 murder of drug manufacturer Terry Falconer.

He will spend a minimum of 18 years in jail for his crime, with his brother Andrew jailed for nine years for conspiracy to murder. Underbelly: Badness will start filming in and around Sydney this week.

"This is the most contemporary yet and is in marked contrast to Underbelly: Razor," Monaghan said.
