Elegance is back in black for the Dally M awards

From: The Daily Telegraph September 08, 2010 12:00AM

RUGBY league's night of nights was an elegant affair with the code's WAGS choosing conservative black gowns, reflective of league's newly conservative party attitude.

While Confidential looked hard for some cleavage and a misguided Brynne Edelsten-inspired starlet, what we found in its place were sophisticated young women shunning the spotlight and acknowledging this night belonged to their men.

The evening's highest-profile WAG, actress Jodi Gordon, was possibly its most beautiful in a black strapless Alex Perry, arriving on the arm of partner Braith Anasta at the Sheraton on the Park pre-event cocktail party.

So in love is Anasta with Gordon, the Roosters star hardly managed to drag his eyes from his gorgeous girlfriend during the ceremony last night.

The pair laughed as Confidential quizzed them on any marriage plans.

Sonia di Loreto, fiancee of Panthers star Luke Lewis, also was a standout in a beautiful black strapless gown.

Dally M winner Todd Carney took his mother Leanne, who looked super stylish in a gown that she had bought off the rack at Myer Eastgardens, to the glittering event.

There was some cleavage on show in a room elegantly and conservatively dressed, black the dominant colour.

Most of the players managed to look comfortable in suits they're not accustomed to wearing, Benji Marshall admitting his was borrowed.

The surprise of the night was that South Sydney looker Sam Burgess didn't bring a date.

Having been previously linked to Candice Falzon and Stephanie Rice, we were disappointed to find him dateless at the Dallys.
