2008 - Telling Ric and Cassie

Summary

Sally finds out the news that Pippa has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She will have to have surgery, and afterwards maybe chemotherapy. Because Pippa is sick, Sally decides to go visit her and lend her a hand. She stays with Pippa for three weeks, during wich time Pippa is operated on and it is decided that she will need chemotherapy. Sally returns to Summer Bay, but feels guilty about not being there for Pippa during this difficult time. She starts to think about moving closer to Pippa. It's a hard decision to make for Sally, because she feels that Ric and Cassie need her, and she can't just leave them behind. After a lot of thinking and talking about it with her friends, Sally realizes that Ric and Cassie are all grown up now and they don't need her as much as Pippa does at the moment. So Sally says goodbye to her friends, and leaves Summer Bay with Pippa Jr. At least for now.

Sally has just decided to leave Summer Bay. She has already told Alf and Leah, but she still has to do the hardest part, telling Cassie and Ric.

INT. SUMMER BAY HOUSE – EVENING

SALLY, RIC, and CASSIE are sitting at the dining room table. SALLY is sitting at the head of the table, CASSIE is sitting on the chair closest to her and RIC is sitting next to CASSIE. CASSIE has tears in her eyes. RIC is staring at his hands, which are on the table.

CASSIE

You're leaving?

SALLY

Yes. I think it's the best thing right now.

CASSIE

But, what about us?

SALLY

I'm sorry, Cassie. But you have to understand that I'm not leaving you and Ric. I'm leaving Summer Bay. I'll always be there for you if you need me. I'm just a phone call away.

RIC is still sitting there, staring at his hands.

SALLY

Ric, you've been quiet. Are you okay with this?

RIC looks up at SALLY.

RIC

Yeah, sure. I mean, if you think you have to do this, then you should do it.

RIC tries to put on a brave face. But SALLY isn't convinced.

SALLY

You know I wouldn't do this if I didn't think you guys could make it on your own, right? I know you can. I know because you've both grown so much since Flynn and I took you in. You've become such good, extraordinary young people and I couldn't be more proud of you.

CASSIE and SALLY have tears running down their cheeks.

RIC

That's because of you, and Flynn. Who knows what would have happened if you hadn't taken us is.

SALLY

But we did, and I have never regretted for a second doing that, you know that right? I couldn't have gotten through these last years without you. You're what kept me going after Flynn died. I don't think I would have gotten through that if you weren't there for me.

RIC

Sal, come on. Of course we were there for you. You're like a mother to us, and you needed us.

SALLY

I know. And now I have to be there for Pippa. Because she needs me.

CASSIE

I'm going to miss you so much.

SALLY

I'm going to miss you too, both of you.

RIC and CASSIE stand up to hug SALLY. CASSIE and SALLY are crying, RIC is seemingly moved.
