Stars visit Lauren

March 21, 2006

A GROUP of Home and Away stars has made a secret hospital visit to the bedside of Sydney bashing victim Lauren Huxley.

The 19-year-old, who was beaten, doused in petrol and left to die in the family's burning Northmead home on November 9 last year, is an avid fan of the hit soap.

On Monday, cast members including Jason Smith, who plays Robbie Hunter on the show, visited Westmead hospital in the hope of bringing a smile to Huxley's face after her horrific ordeal.

Respecting the family's wishes, the visit was kept well under wraps with the popular actors making their way discreetly into the hospital around 3pm (AEDT) on Monday.

They spent close to two hours with Huxley.

A spokeswoman for the long-running show said the visit wasn't a publicity opportunity and discouraged media to attend the facility out of respect for the family's privacy. She gave no further details.

The Australian stars first heard of Huxley's love for the show just days after the brutal attack.

Her 21-year-old sister Simone said her "best friend" was addicted to the Seven Network program and that all episodes were being taped while she recovered.

Hearing of the marketing student's battle, the cast sent a handful of autographed pictures and messages specifically penned for the hospital-bound teenager.

However, the keepsakes and other unopened gifts stored for Huxley's return home were stolen just after Christmas by thieves, leaving her family "absolutely distraught".

Now, she can boast to her friends that she has seen her icons in the flesh and not just on posters or TV.

It is expected Huxley will be allowed home for the first time soon but no one is discussing her permanent discharge from hospital.

Good on you Jason and the other's for visiting Lauren. She has been through so much, I can't even imagine what she must be going through. To have such a horrifing and traumatic experience happen to you must be hell. Then for some heartless criminal to break into their house and steal her Christmas Presents is so heartless and cruel. I hope having some special visitors from her favourite show, will put a smile back on her face.

That was good of them to visit her, thanks for the article.

If it wasn't a publicity move then why is it now being publicised?

That's true.
