It's a good thing to have though in case of an emergency and you need to drive somewhere. I don't think you need to go out and get them the instant you turn 17, especially if you know you're not going to be needing to drive anywhere anytime soon, but it's something you should get over the next few years just in case you do end up needing it.

I didn't get my P's until I was 18... I had my L's since I was 16 but I hadn't really needed to get the P's when I turned 17 because I lived right on the train line and didn't need to drive... Then when I was 18 I got a job where I couldn't get to by train, so I went and got my P's then.
