Label Bec takes shape

Sydney Confidential, Daily Telegraph

15 July 2005

IT'S going to be a race to the altar for bride and mum-to-be Bec Cartwright.

While the ex-soapie star is set to exchange vows with Lleyton Hewitt in less than a week, Cartwright -- who returned from Wimbledon just days ago -- has put wedding arrangements aside to concentrate on developing her own fashion label.

Confidential can reveal Cartwright's first project post Home and Away is a fashion collaboration with Sydney designer Bruno Schiavi, the man responsible for Delta Goodrem's Delta by Anabella lingerie collection.

Schiavi and Cartwright, who is said to be "extremely excited" about the venture, met this week to discuss production schedules for the "casual outerwear range" that is scheduled to hit shelves by early 2006.

"It's a priority for her to get this done, and while she is busy, where there's a will, there's a way," Schiavi told Confidential yesterday.

The 21-year-old has relied heavily on the support of family and friends to pull together plans for the heavily hyped, shotgun wedding.

"She's had great support from her mum especially, and people close to her," Schiavi, who described Cartwright's Alex Perry bridal gown as "very, very beautiful," said.

Unfortunately the upcoming fashion line will not be called "Mrs Hewitt" but surprise, surprise, an amount from every garment sold will be donated to the AIDS trust of Australia to boost proceeds for the Cambodian orphanage funded by the fledging lovebirds.

On the topic of lurve, Confidential caught up with Cartwright's ex Beau Brady and his latest flame Shae Brewster at the Tom, Dick and Harry fashion launch this week.

Brady, who almost fled the country when news of long-time love Cartwright's relationship with the tennis ace broke earlier this year, said he wished his ex all the best for her big day.

"I'll pass on my congratulations, yeah. We are in touch, but we don't speak much because we don't need to anymore," Brady told Confidential.
