Neighbours was dependent on the UK funding to keep it going, it doesn't rate well in Australia anymore. Home and Away still rates well in Australia and isn't reliant on channel 5 for funding. Channel five have pulled out of funding Neighbours, no one else wants the burden and that's why Neighbours is axed and Home and Away carries on.
