Princess Diana's death still a source of debate 14 years later

August 31 marks the 14th anniversary of Princess Diana's untimely death after she and Dodi Fayed, her boyfriend, were involved in a fatal car crash in the Pont de l'Alma underpass in Paris.

Both the driver, Henri Paul, and Fayed were pronounced dead on the scene. Diana was rushed to a hospital and placed in intensive care, but her injuries were too severe and she died a few hours after the crash.

Initially, it was thought that paparazzi, who were tailing the car on motorcycles, distracted the driver and ultimately caused the crash. It was later determined after an extensive investigation that the driver, Henri Paul, was intoxicated and lost control of the vehicle at high speeds.

The case wasn't quite closed for some, however. Myriad conspiracy theories began to surface as people struggled to understand the exact cause of Princess Diana's untimely death. People began to question Henri Paul's involvement, and there were even allegations of MI6 involvement.

In a special airing on Reelz Channel at 1 P.M. ET today, Diana's butler, Paul Burrell, shared his thoughts on why people can't quite let it go.

"I think people can't let go because they don't want to believe that she could have just had an accident," Burrell said. "And, to be honest, how could anyone manufacture such a tragic accident with such a horrific outcome? And why?"
