Will that change? Whiskey Lullaby It tore him apart. The one he loved and and thought he could trust forever could do this to him. He wondered over and over how she could do this to him. Over and over he would blame himself. Then one night he realised it wasn't his fault. He stopped blaming himself. She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind Until the night He loved her. He truly loved her. That was never going to stop. But he had to move on. The girl of his dreams just left and never came back. He was never going to get over it. But he knew one day they would see each other again. He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away her memory Life is short but this time it was bigger Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said I'll love her till I die And when we buried him beneath the willow The angels sang a whiskey lullaby He was right. They did meet again. When he least expected it. Standing on the beach all alone. He looked up the beach and there she was. He had to do a double take to make sure it was really her. It was. He walked over to her cautiously. The rumours flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind Until the night “It's really you Martha” he said almost not believing it himself. “Yeah it's me Jack” she said with a small smile. “Why did you leave all those years ago” he said years of anger finally coming out. “I'm sorry. I had my reasons but I can't tell you what they are” was all she could manage before she broke down and fell into the sand. He wanted to hold her and tell her everything was going to be ok. It took everything inside of him to stop himself. “Your pathetic Martha” he said in a bitter tone and walked away without looking back. She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby But he couldn't leave her. He stopped in his tracks and thought for a second before turning and walking back to her. Wrapping his arms around her. He had missed holding her. She was back where she belonged. Comments
