Baby Girl

The moon shone through the partially closed blind as he stood rooted to the spot taking in all the smells, sights and noises. He didn’t really know how he felt; all he knew was that he felt great, it was a mixture of excitement, amazement and awe. He couldn’t take it all in; he never thought this would happen to him

Her hand curled around his thumb as she snuggled up to his chest for extra protection. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her; she was perfect from the rosebud lips, the big brown eyes to the tuft of wavy brown hair that sat delicately on the top of her head. She looked so much like her, it was scary in fact.

He watched as she slept, she looked angelic, more than he could ever have asked for. What was she dreaming of? He wondered to himself as he noticed her eyelids start to twitch and she took a couple sharp intakes of breath. He wondered what the rest of their lives were going to be like. Would there be joyful times? Sad times? His thoughts had made him lose focus on the most important thing at that moment, as he looked down again the warm sensation that he had before came back.

He’d been so nervous about this moment. On the outside he put on an excited happy bravado and said numerous times that he couldn’t wait for the arrival. But the truth was that deep down he was a nervous wreck and was so very scared, he hadn’t been this scared for a very long time. But he was surprised as he was standing there he didn’t feel scared and nervous at all; it felt natural.

Time seemed to stand still as it was just the two of them, and he liked it. He liked the thought that someone was dependant on him and had the chance to shape someone’s life. He knew he could succeed at his new job for the simple fact that he knew what NOT to do in the whole process, he knew because he had changed for the good and had matured; but most of all, he knew he could do it because this was his responsibility.

His daughter.
