Ada Nicodemou takes time out from Home and Away to defend Lleyton and Bec Hewitt, writes Cheryl Critchley

AS BEC Hewitt's bridesmaid, Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou knows Australia's hottest couple well.

And Nicodemou, who plays Leah Patterson, is quick to defend Hewitt from the critics.

"I think it's completely unfair," she says while in town to be fitted for a Logies dress by Melbourne's J'Aton Couture.

Nicodemou (right) has been nominated for a gold Logie for the third time, with Bec Hewitt and Home and Away castmate Kate Ritchie.

She says the three are thrilled for each other, and that Bec and Lleyton are a fantastic couple.

"Lleyton is such a lovely man, a great husband and a great father.

"He does everything for his family. He's one of those people who just sits down and listens to you and really takes an interest in what you do and say. And he's really generous. He's so different from how he is portrayed in the media.

"I obviously hadn't met Lleyton until he was with Bec. I didn't know what to expect. He's so shy and softly spoken. He's just so lovely. And they are just so ridiculously happy."

Nicodemou, 28, is also deliriously happy. Engaged to her Sydney restaurateur beau Chrys Xipolitas, she can't wait to tie the knot herself. The nuptials probably won't reach the heights of the Hewitts', but there will be lots of guests.

"I'd love it to be a small, intimate occasion but . . . it's going to be two Greeks getting married," Nicodemou says and laughs.

"We've sort of got it down to about 400. Welcome to my life. That's Mum's family and extended family, his family and extended family and then our friends. Chrys knows everyone."

Right now the Logies dress takes priority. Nicodemou is keen to work with J'Aton, who made Delta Goodrem's frock for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. She loves the J'Aton style and is confident they'll come up with something special.

"I'm not really precious about it. It's one night and you want to look fabulous, obviously, but I want to be comfortable and happy with what I'm wearing. I'm very relaxed about what I wear."

Nicodemou hasn't had much time to think about her wedding yet, and hasn't even set a date. But she is sure of one thing: she will change her name to Xipolitas.

"Definitely. Maybe professionally it might just be easier not to change it, because people have already got used to mine. People have only just started to even be able to say it.

"I love the tradition that comes with a wedding. I want to get married in a church, and I want to have the same name as my kids.

"I've never thought not to change my name. It's something that I've always wanted to do."

Xipolitas and Nicodemou were engaged in February. They met in the restaurant he owns when Nicodemou visited with her aunt.

"It's nice to have someone completely out of the industry so you're not forever talking about work," she says. "It's just real."
