Profile & Background: Paige
Wilson is 28 years old and works as a therapist in the
prison that Macca is in, after handing himself in for abuse.
She is trying to help Macca through his troubles by bringing
him and Cassie back together one last time. The script picks
up after Cassie has talked about her feelings towards Macca,
which are feelings of love.
[Scene after the break. It is a small room with three chairs
and a table in the middle. CASSIE is in the chair on the
left, looking emotionally drained. It is obvious that she
has just revealed something major. MACCA is sat on the
right, looking anywhere but at CASSIE. It is again obvious
that CASSIE'S words have gotten to him. PAIGE is sat in the
third chair, watching MACCA.
PAIGE: Macca, it's your turn to say what is on your mind.
[MACCA looks at PAIGE and PAIGE gives him a nod of
reassurance. MACCA looks down, still unable to look at
CASSIE.]
MACCA: I promised you that I would never hurt you again. I
made this promise to you because I believed it. You took me
back and yet I let you down when you needed me the most.
Your family was being ripped apart and all I felt was
jealousy. I appreciate the letters you've been sending me
and the words of encouragement but it needs to stop.
CASSIE: Please don't do this.
[MACCA doesn't listen to her, focusing on what he needs to
say. PAIGE stares at her patient, acting as if she knows
there is something he needs to say.]
MACCA: I love you and probably always will but Cas, your
love is killing me. I can't be the man you want and deserve.
It doesn't matter how many anger management classes I attend
or how many words of encouragement you give me. The violence
inside of me will always be there and sooner or later, it
will surface again. I love you too much to let you get hurt
again. Don't write again and please don't request any more
visits.
[Finally MACCA looks at CASSIE. He appears emotionless and
she appears stunned and borderline upset. PAIGE just watches
the reaction.]
CASSIE: You don't mean this. You'll get better and then we
can be together again. Please don't do this to us!
MACCA: I'm sorry but this is goodbye.
[MACCA stands up and walks out without looking back. CASSIE
breaks down, PAIGE comforting her by taking hold of her
hand.]
CASSIE: (through tears) How can he do this, after
everything? I don't understand.
PAIGE: I've seen a lot of abuse cases since I began working
in this prison but I have never seen a love as pure as the
love he has for you. You have to understand that the words
he has said to you today weren't said to hurt you. He did
this because he loves you. Maybe in a few months, when he is
free from prison, he will change his mind but right now, at
this moment in time, he needs time to heal. If you don't
give him that, then he'll never be able to work through his
problems. Have faith that this is the best option.
[CASSIE nods, understanding etched on her face.]
[Scene fades out.] |
