| During the period between 15th October and
10th November, members of Back to the Bay; The Message Board
voted for who they thought was the best ever Home and Away character.
They were asked to list the five characters that they thought
were the best, 1st being the character they thought was the
best and 5th to the character that they thought was the fifth
best. 1st place was given five points, 2nd four, 3rd three,
4th two and finally 5th one point. Over the past 3 weeks,
we've been compiling the results and now it's time for the winners
to be revealed. Over the next week we'll be counting down from
68 to 1, and the countdown starts here. Click on one of the
numbers below for more information on the characters who won.
1 - The character who received
162 points.
2 - The character who received
141 points.
3 - The character who received
96 points.
4 - The character who received
90 points.
5 to 9 - The characters who received
52 to 74 points.
19 to 10 - The characters who
received 19 to 48 points.
39 to 20 - The characters who
received 6 to 26 points.
68 to 40 - The characters who
received 1 to 5 points.
The Final Result
Up until the last few days I would be here making a speech going
how close it had finished between Kane and Irene. In fact Kane
was in the lead for most of the voting. However, a late surge
by Irene, and Kane drawing lots of zeroes made it pretty clear
cut in the end.An interesting fact to notice is that you
have to go down to Angel in 20th position before
you find anyone that hasn’t made an appearance this century.
However several full-time characters this year never got a mention
such as Rhys, Dan and Henry. Around 100 people voted and between
them they chose 68 different characters.

Kane first appeared in Home & Away in 2000,
as a rakishly charming boy in Dani's class,
advertising a party. Ridha tells us what
she thinks of Kane Phillips, the character who
narrowly missed out on the Number 1 spot. |

Just in the last year (2004) she has developed
from a school-girl to a grown-up, and still
manages to do it convincingly. Agurkis tells

She played Angie with utter conviction and
inspired in viewers a shocking response to such
a twisted character; compassion. She’s a legend.
