This year's scriptwriting competition was always going to be tinged with a touch of sadness because the person who instigated the competition, and who whipped every one into shape for the first two years, is sadly no longer with us. Frankie Monroe will long be remembered on the forum, and this competition was her baby. On the other hand we were also excited as we all sought to do Frankie's competition proud and the judges and organisers alike eagerly anticipated the entries.
Each year the competition sets a new writing challenge and this year we have had a record number or entries, double the number that which we received last year. The competition made the pages of 'TV Week' and also those of UK magazine 'What's on TV' and this helped spread the word far and wide, as we received entries from several countries. All of the entries are submitted anonymously to the judging panel, who this year have enjoyed a feast of cliff hangers including car crashes, gun toting teenagers, villains galore, shock endings, and some emotional heartfelt ones as well. The judges were particularly impressed by the quality of entries in the '16 and under' category, so much so that for the first time, they have short listed more in this category than in the '17 and overs'.
Our head judge is, Australia's Dramaqueen, AWGIE winner, and former Home And Away Script Producer Coral Drouyn. BTTB would like to thank her and the other judges for all their time and efforts in this competition, and as always are particularly indebted to Coral for her invaluable contribution.
Our 2 lucky winners will each be receiving the following prizes, as shown in our banner above:
• A 'Home and Away' script of Episode 4609 (Sally's last episode), signed by the cast and kindly donated by Seven Network's Script Executive Bevan Lee
• 'The Screenplay Workbook' kindly signed and donated by author Tom Mungovan
• 'Home and Away: Official Collectors Edition' magazine
• Summer Bay Surf Club cap
• A Summer Bay bumper sticker
• An assortment of 'Home and Away' related pictures (may vary from ones shown)
So it is now time to answer the burning question, who are our winners? So without further ado I will hand over to Coral to announce the winners.
Can we have a drum roll please?
