Roman... the kitchen god

Over the last year and a half, we have seen numerous memorable moments in the Diner kitchen (and other kitchens!) involving Roman. These may have been small, insignificant moments, but they were entertaining at the time and were a breath of fresh air.

'The Hungry Derro'

The first signs of Roman's character came to light when he was working in the Diner when he first arrived back in 2007. He was only a few days into his trial shifts when he came across Miles who was, at the time, homeless. We saw that Roman was generous and willing to help Miles when he gave him leftovers from the Diner, for which Miles was very grateful for. But that didn't come without a few problems. Irene found out about her leftovers being given to Miles and told Roman to stop as it would bring other homeless people to the Diner looking for free food. Roman charmed her into letting it go, but told Miles that they'd have to arrange another rendezvous.  Roman and his winking also charmed Irene! ;)

Kitchen God Rating: 3/5 - Obviously a generous and caring chef, and you and I both know that they are hard to come across!

'Young Starters'

Next we had the pure gossiper's paradise moment when the Diner employees found out about Roman's 16 year old daughter, Nicole, who just waltzed into town unannounced. This surprised Leah and Irene and Roman had to explain that he and his girlfriend "started young".

You could tell Roman wasn't that bothered about people knowing about his 16-year-old daughter, but everybody else seemed to be surprised that he and Natalie (his ex) had a child at such a young age.

Kitchen God Rating: 2/5 - Leah and Irene were shocked to say the least. Colleen, however, was over the moon about having a rather large piece of juicy gossip to spread around!

'Kitchen Commando'

The army man in Roman came out when he got his hands on the new Diner kitchen. He began to introduce some rules, but it all got a bit too much for one Diner employee.
When Roman started working in the new Diner (after the old one collapsed), he set some ground rules to Colleen. Different surroundings required different methods of work. But unfortunately she couldn't cope with all the changes and kept making mistakes. She resigned, but later came back after some persuading!

Kitchen God Rating: 4/5: - He may have been a bit "full on" with all the changes, but knew Colleen was a very important part of the business so he tolerated her from then on... and not a lot of people can do that!

'Food poisoning or, um, morning sickness?'

RomanKG4.jpg

We all know Roman and Martha were a very hot and cold couple. Some people loved them while some hated them. All normal, right? Well, throw in a baby and it gets a whole lot more complicated!

Martha began to get very ill after she broke up with Roman and started dating Jack. She told people it was just food poisoning and nobody should worry. Jack got wind of this and charged into the Diner kitchen and accused Roman of poisoning Martha (unintentionally, obviously!). After giving Jack some food for thought (ha, get it?), Roman went to see Martha. He knew exactly what was going on and told her that he knew she was pregnant. A few hours later a truck hit him. Okay, not in the literal sense, but metaphorically speaking. Martha didn't know who the father was!

Kitchen God Rating: 5/5: - Oooh, this was good. Little Jackie couldn't join the dots and accused Roman of poisoning people in his own kitchen! This could've had a bad affect on business, but luckily for Summer Bay residents Roman found out the truth!

'Kissing and then vomiting isn't a nice look!'

RomanKG5.jpg

While Roman left absolute relationship-carnage behind him, he decided to create even more by kissing Leah at her 30th birthday party. She was drunk at the time and kissed him in her kitchen, and then proceeded to throwing up on him, but the first part was the sweetest.

Luckily for her she didn't remember any of it. Roman didn't want to remind her, so he let it be. But it wasn't long until Leah remembered! Roman and Leah were in the Diner kitchen when their heads nearly touched and it all came pouring back to her. She confessed to Roman that she remembered when they were in her kitchen.

Kitchen God Rating: 3/5: Roman was so nice keeping it from Leah so she wasn't embarrassed. But it all caught up to her and she confessed. This couple was great while the relationship lasted.

Was Roman a kitchen god?

All in all, kitchen scenes involving Roman were all very interesting. It will be weird for a while when we won't see Roman shuffling lettuce leaves and cutting tomatoes, but he's always been remembered as Summer Bay's Kitchen God!
