Most Popular Character 2006: 41-61

41. Dani Sutherland (19 points) ▼25

Played by Tammin Sursok
Dani was raped by Kane in 2001 and spent the next few years being aggreived by this. However being upset that someone raped you is obviously not a natural reaction, and huge groups of fans thought Dani should just let it go so "oh so cute" Kane and Kirsty could be together.

41= Shane Parrish (19 points) ▼7

Played by Dieter Brummer
Shane appears to be the least popular half ot the middle 90's golden couple. He arrived in the bay a young tearaway, but he got together with Angel. Thereafter he wasn't quite as interesting.

43. Dan Baker (18 points) ►NEW

Played by Tim Campbell
When Dan arrived in the bay, he didn't get any storylines. Slowly, but surely has got more and more storylines, and at the current moment is one of the grounded characters in the show. If all else fails you can just be a jolly nice man like Tim and everyone will love you.

44. Sophie Simpson (17 points) ▼18

Played by Rebekah Elmaloglou
Sophie is another one who was big in her day and she got even bigger when she fell pregnant with David Croft, played by superstar Guy Pearce. No doubt had this been held ten years ago Sophie would have been a challenger, but despite a few appearances in recent years, Sophie support came in dribbles, rather than bursts.

45. Max Sutherland (15 points) ▼15

Played by Sebastian Elmaloglou
How ironic that Sebastian should be right below his sister. You always wondered if she was one of the reasons that Seb got the job. Max, it's fair to say wasn't everyone's favourite character, but obviously some must like him.

46. Paris Burnett (14 points) ▲10

Played by Rhett Giles
Paris arrived in Summer Bay to be principal of the school, had a relationship with Irene and then had to leave. A year later he arrived in Summer Bay to be principal of the school, had a relationship with Irene, stayed a little longer and then left.

46= Nick Smith (14 points) ▼25

Played by Matt Juarez & Chris Egan
Nick Smith arrived firstly in 1999, and then again in 2000 looking completely different. Got on well with Duncan, which was no surprise as both were a bit bratty and had short tempers. Both also had a liking for Jade and stealing cars. Nick left to become famous in Hollywood, whilst Chris Egan left to become famous in Hollywood.

48. Jesse McGregor (13 points) ▼16

Played by Ben Unwin
Jesse another one of the drivers that decided to take a pit stop, with two stints over a period of nine years. Never far from breaking the law, he also got to a clifftop twice to have a wedding. He got married zero times. He also had a proposal turned down. At least he got rid off that horrible early haircut.

48= Edward Dunglass (13 points) ▲8

Played by Stephen James King
Edward was the bay first Goth. So in true Home and Away, stereotyping they decided to make Edward dark and mysterious, and make him doing totally different things to the rest of the bay. He didn't break the Home and Away tradition of getting married before the big 2-0 however. Probably dead now, he had Huntingdon's, but we can't be sure, he hasn't been mentioned since 2001.

48= Beth Hunter (13 points) ▼37

Played by Clarissa House
Go pick up a stone, fill the bath with water and drop the stone in the bath. What you see there is exactly what has happened to Beth. Two years ago she was the new Pippa, now along with Tony she has become the new Milco, almost invisible.

51. Jade Sutherland (12 points) ▼19

Played by Kate Garven
Jade, probably the least used of the Sutherland sisters, completely overshadowed by the ongoing Kirsty/Kane/Dani triangle that lasted about two years. Then we discovered that she wasn't a Sutherland sister and in fact was a Degroot daughter. She then left.

52. Leah Poulos/Patterson/Patterson-Baker (11 points) ▲4

Played by Ada Nicodemou
Leah has been around for six years, but hasn't done particularly well in either of the two awards. Possibly if I'd been hanging around Home and Away websites during her heyday in 2001 she would have done better. Now she offers the show solid, but unspectactular. Some may say boring.

52= Lance Smart (11 points) ▲4

Played by Peter Vroom
Lance and Martin spent the first few years trying to outdo each other in the stupidness stakes. We've got no result on the winner, but Lance was thrown out of the army for flattening someones car in a tank.

54. Scott Hunter (9 points) ▼12

Played by Kip Gamblin
Scott was brought in and subsequently spent the best part of two years as Dani's boyfriend, rather than a bona fide character in his own right. Dani then left and Scott found himself right in the middle of one of the most unpopular stories in recent years. Even Kip didn't like it.

55. Carly Morris/Lucini (7 points)▼11

Played by Sharyn Hodgson
Carly was one of the original Fletcher's and of the seven original actors, only Sally outstayed her. Unhappy at the move at the start, she soon settled and fell for Ben Lucini, a character played by superstar Julian McMahon. She then married Julian McMahon's character Ben. When Julian McMahon's portrayal of Ben was written out of the show Carly followed him.Oh, did I mention that Julian McMahon once appeared in Home and Away?

55= Jack Wilson (30 points) ►NEW

Played by Daniel Amalm
His bio on the site says that he was one of the most dire character ever. I didn't think he was that bad, but horses for courses and all that. Sally obviously didn't think he was that bad, Jack was her first serious boyfriend.

55= Rachel Armstrong (7 points) ►NEW

Played by Amy Mathews
Rachel is relatively new to the bay, but in a just a few weeks she has saved Kim's life, then walked into a hostage situation, before then getting into a relationship with one of her patients.

55= Steven Matheson (7 points) ►NEW

Played by Adam Willits
The last of the original Fletcher family characters to make the list. He moved to the Fletcher's after his parents were burned to death. So, just to rub it in his uncle was then killed in a fire as well. Has had two stints on the show, his second ending after Selina whom he was about to marry was kidnapped. They broke up, but are apparently back together.

59. Jude Lawson (6 points) ▼15

Played by Ben Steel
Noah's less well known brother, Jude, was on the show for less than two years. He went out with Shauna, she broke his heart, so it's obvious that next time she ran into town Jude would drop everything and get back with her.

59= Joey Rainbow (6 points) ►NEW

Played by Alex O'Han
If you get past the rather out there name, Joey moved into the then all-female Beach House so it was perhaps predicatable that he would go crazy sooner or later. He didn't exactly have the best start to life with his father being cult leader Saul Bennett.

59= Sam Marshall (6 points) ►NEW

Played by Ryan Clark
Ah cute little Sam, responsible for burning Adam's house as a ten year old just because Adam was responsible for killing Bobby. Sam also decided it was a good idea to go swimming in a raging torrent and Michael died saving him. Sam, like Sally. grew up on our screens.
