20th-29th: 2010 Most Popular Character

Don't worry, we're getting there.  After this we've got 4 more updates to go and we're actually starting to get into the more interesting results. 19 more characters to be revealed after this lot and as many of you have noticed, Luke Cunningham hasn't appeared yet. Will he feature here?

20. Marilyn Chambers (28 points)

Perhaps one of the results I was most interested in finding out due to the proximity of Marilyn's return to the show around the time of the vote and well whatever the reason, because she had only been back for a few weeks when the vote closed, her popularity had certainly increased and where it was due to people getting sentimental or perhaps wanting to be seen to be supporting her return, her performance here is much stronger than anything she had acheived previously.

21. Peter Baker (26 points)

This group appears to be a moderately popular bunch of 00's characters of varying quality and usually with fanatical fan groups, that have now died down to a few peas rattling around in a can. Peter was the hot cop during the mid-00's, who kept on coming back because Summer Bay seemed to be the hot stop for deranged lunatics trying to kill everyone.

22. Kirsty Phillips (25 points)

Kirsty bounces back up from the last vote, maintaining the bounce that a meaningful return that Marilyn has shown, and is much better-off than her old partner in crime, Kane. Whether he actual return was any good or worthwhile, I don't know. The funny thing is, it's always nice to see an old face back, but sometimes it feels after a week or two, they're just the same as any character and the novelty wears off.

22=. Roman Harris (25 points)

Regular readers of the board, or just those that happened to read the right thread, will know I didn't think much or Roman. Conrad Coleby is obviously talented, but well I just didn't like Roman.

24. Geoff Campbell (24 points)

Much the same really, polluted by the drivel that was 2009, his own personal nadir being either that Claudia storyline (apologies for anyone that had forgotten about it and I've just reminded you about it), or this apparently never ending footy storyline that seemed to serve as a way for Geoff to injure people he didn't like.

25. Angie Russell (22 points)

Here's a character liked, and I could wax lyrical till the cows come home even if I was waiting for them to get back from Timbuktu and she's one character who can claim to have an era of her own as she spent just 100 episodes on the show, but just about manipulated everyone in the bay, whether it was playing with Nick Smith's mind, tearing the Sutherland family apart or the mystery that followed.

26. Ric Dalby (21 points)

A character who I thought showed great initial potential from his entry in 2004 as the antagonist, then as he tried to fit into a normal family at Summer Bay House. Then he got excluded from school where he got involved in copious car storylines, with his mechanics job obviously not paying enough for a barber and he slightly boring relationship with Matilda, though you could certainly see why he went for her.

27. Jazz Curtis (18 points)

You know you've failed as a character when you spend two years plying your trade with your ridiculous afro, and your mum comes in, stir things up a bit and scores 18 points more than you, despite being on the show for a month or two. But Jazz shows quantity triumps over quality.

28. Robbie Hunter (17 points)

Doing quite a bit better than his wife Tasha, though I still can't remember amongst all the funky ceremonies whether they are actually man and wife, Robbie came and we all loved him. His oddball personality was different to the eat and surf type the show has often potrayed. Then the gave him storylines like killing his granddad, which were quite deep, but also left Robbie slightly downbeat. Then it appears someone forgot that Jason Smith was leaving and they wrote his entire departure storyline into one episode.

29. Shannon Reed (16 points)

Isla Fisher is possibly the most successful product of the main credits cas (as opposed to a future big-star passing through for a week) and not just that she seems to appear in a never-ending list of rom-coms recently, but she's also managed to marry someone more successful and so she's successful and rich. Despite my cynicism, Shannon was a pretty damm good character and it's good to see that people still remember her 15 years on.
