Monday 19th December 2005 - Episode 3996

Leah’s pre-wedding nerves are giving way to superstition – maybe everything that’s happened is a sign telling her that she’s not supposed to get married today. Sally and Hayley do their best to try and talk Leah around. She can’t call the wedding off now… What about Dan? The guests? The arrangements? Amanda subtly defends Leah’s decision – if it’s what Leah wants… The guests arrive and chaos breaks out as they discover all is not well.

Meanwhile, over at the Hunter house, Dan, Peter and Scott prepare for the big day, relaxed with beer in hand. Amanda turns up to break the news to Dan. Peter’s immediately suspicious of Amanda’s involvement, but Dan thinks she’s turned over a new leaf. Despite Amanda’s discouragement, Dan races home to talk to Leah where the chaos has escalated and Leah is nowhere to be found.

All dressed up and in a state of panic, everyone rushes around in small groups, calling out for Leah. Someone spots her sitting on the beach. They all rush forward, but Dan stands his ground – this is for them to sort out. Leah explains how she wanted it all to be perfect, but Dan offers his heartfelt declaration of love – as far as he’s concerned, it is. They have each other, don’t they? That’s all they need. They kiss - the wedding is back on!

Heading back in the house, everyone talks over each other about what they are going to do to re-organise the wedding at such short notice. Peter steps up and takes control of the situation, volunteering Amanda as his helper. Backed into a corner, she gives an obligatory smile, but Peter can see through her.

Wedding preparations commence at full speed, as everyone mucks in to make the venue as beautiful as possible for the much-loved couple. When everything’s finally ready, Peter wryly turns to Amanda – the day has been saved (he suspects – despite her).

Dan’s all dressed and ready to walk down the aisle. Kevin looks proud of his son, and Noelene fusses over Dan’s tie. Peter arrives back, telling a relieved Dan everything is sorted – they’ve managed to track down a celebrant. Noelene softens towards Peter, as she recognises his role in this, but Kevin holds her back unable to thaw in his attitude towards his oldest son.

The venue looks fabulous! Music plays as the guests start to arrive. Dan is blown away and the anticipation builds to Leah’s arrival. The car pulls up and everyone’s excited - they’re here! Hayley gets out first, then Sally, then Theo, who holds the door open for Leah, as she gets out of the car – she looks amazing! Leah takes in the beautifully prepared venue, gob-smacked by the effort everyone has obviously put in. Hayley whispers to her - now this is a sign! Leah has to agree – it’s perfect!

Dan stands at the front of the aisle, nervously excited. A slap on the shoulder from Peter then the music begins. Ryan and VJ, the ring bearers, walk down the aisle first. Then Hayley, then Sally. The music changes, as Theo takes Leah by the arm and they commence walking down the aisle. Everyone sighs, or exchange looks and comments – she looks like a princess. The couple exchange their vows and the celebrant pronounces them husband and wife. They kiss tenderly, and the guests cheer in celebration of their union.

Tuesday 20th December 2005 - Episode 3997

The Surf Club is set up beautifully for the reception. As MC, Alf introduces everyone as they sit down. Leah and Dan take their seats and share a kiss, as the laughter and fun commences…

Things are clearly awkward between Hayley and Scott, but Hayley takes his arm and smiles – this is Dan and Leah’s day and they’re both going to put their own problems aside for the time being and concentrate on the task at hand. Scott smiles, happily taking Hayley’s arm.

05_12_19_03.jpg

Noelene tells Peter she’s sorry they’ve lost this much time – Peter has every right to follow his own life. She starts to cry; Peter awkwardly holds her. Noelene comments that she doesn’t think they’ll have much luck convincing Kevin to let the agro go though.

Peter confronts Kevin, who accuses him of family disloyalty and lack of integrity (sleeping with Amanda). But Peter knows it’s about more than that, they’ve had a difficult father-son relationship since Peter was a kid… It blows up into an argument, which soon gets the attention of the entire room. Embarrassed, the men stop. Dan corners Kevin and gives him a few firm, home truths about carrying a grudge and needing to grow up. Kevin is left with food for thought…

Tentative and awkward, Kevin offers Peter a beer (a peace offering). Peter is reluctant at first – a beer isn’t going to fix things, but Kevin pleads – please, he’s trying here. Peter reluctantly takes it and there’s a long silence. Kevin begins a tentative conversation – so…you’re mother says you’ve got a lady friend? The first steps to reconciliation…

Noelene overhears that Peter thinks Amanda was trying to muck up the wedding and she’s furious – the catfight is on! Dan and Leah send Amanda packing with a quiet warning to leave them alone permanently. Amanda moves off, shame faced…

Dan and Leah insist there’s no way Amanda’s going to ruin their day and much dancing and fun continues. Alf gets on the microphone, reporting it’s time for the garter and bouquet throwing. They’re thrown simultaneously. Hayley catches the bouquet; Scott catches the garter. They share a smile… Dan asks Alf for the microphone and commences to sing a song for Leah. Leah melts as Dan gives a beautiful rendition of a sweet love song. At the end, Leah has been so moved that she’s crying. Leah - I love you… Dan - I love you too. Dan carries Leah over the threshold. Fun and laughter as the newly married couple share a loving, tender kiss…

Hayley goes outside to get some fresh air when Kim joins her. As they’re chatting, the baby kicks again. Hayley jokes that the baby only kicks when the two of them are together and out of the laughter, eye contact is made and held again… Meanwhile, Alf tells Scott perhaps he should let romance lead the way and tell Hayley how he really feels. Scott decides to do just that and heads out to see Hayley kissing Kim. He takes it in for a moment then moves off, failing to see Hayley back off from the kiss. Confused, she takes off. Kim calls after her, but she doesn’t stop…

Wednesday 21st December 2005 - Episode 3998

There’s chaos in Summer Bay House, as everyone rushes around preparing for Alf’s surprise party. Ric, Cassie and Martha are abuzz and Sally is playing mum to them all. The fun and lightness is interrupted by a voice at the door: ‘Some things never change’. Sally turns to see – Pippa!

05_12_19_04.jpg

Kim tracks Hayley down on the beach and asks her if she knows how she feels about him, but Hayley can only say she’s confused. Kim reckons with her health at stake and a baby on the way, what they need in their lives right now is some calm and consistency – as friends they have that.

Scott tells Beth despite the feelings he had all through the reception, seeing Kim kiss Hayley has made him realise, that although he still loves Hayley, it’s really over between them. Beth’s supportive – it’s time to put it behind them and move on. Robbie and Tasha arrive home after their camping trip and their closeness is not lost on Beth and Matilda.

Hayley confesses her confusion to Sally – she does have feelings for Kim, but she also still has at the back of her mind that she and Scott might get back together. Sally thinks she needs to get an answer to that question before she can know anything… Meanwhile, Scott reveals to Kim that he saw the kiss. Kim expects Scott to react badly but Scott isn’t angry, he just wants them to be happy.

Despite a few near misses, Alf has no idea about the party. Fisher and Sophie arrive. Sophie gives a brief overview of the Blake situation – he’s embraced fatherhood, but they aren’t together – how could she trust him again after he deserted her when she was pregnant? When he arrives, everyone is happy to see Blake, but Sophie stands back. We see him trying really hard, but Sophie heads back into the kitchen – emotionally shut down towards him. Blake watches her go, disappointed. He hates things being this way…

Hayley tries to subtly find out what may lie in the future for her and Scott… but Scott, oblivious to this and thinking he’s doing the right thing, reassures her that he’s moved on and is happy for her to have a future with Kim - they are both going to be great parents.

05_12_19_05.jpg

Hayley’s thoughtful when she meets up with Kim. Kim wonders if, now that Scott is out of the equation, she wants to hang out and see where things go? Hayley nods. Kim’s clearly happy and oblivious to Hayley’s sadness – she’s moving on because she has to, but we know a part of her heart will always be with Scott.

Beth asks Robbie if there’s anything he wants to tell her? She can see his relationship with Tasha has moved to the next level. Robbie, totally embarrassed, admits she’s right. Beth is cool with it and Robbie forces a smile, withholding the news of his commitment ceremony (marriage) to Tasha. Later on, Matilda overhears Robbie and Tasha talking about being married. The secret is out!

Blake pleads with Sophie to drop her defences, but she wants to know what he expects from her – after what he did! Blake explains that was two years ago and he’s been trying to make it up ever since. Sophie, hesitates for a moment, but then regains her stance, telling him he may as well stop trying because she’ll never be able to get past what he did.

Pippa reveals she’s bought the Caravan Park and wants to give it to Sally and Flynn. Sally’s stunned!

Thursday 22nd December 2005 - Episode 3999

Still reeling from Pippa’s news, Sally says there’s no way they can accept the caravan park as a gift. Pippa makes a heart felt speech about what it means to her and asks Sally to think about it.

Alf’s grumpy having only received a couple of token ‘happy birthdays’ – it seems to him that everyone took his ‘no fuss’ requests a little too seriously.

Blake tries again to be caring towards Sophie, but she’s not interested. He goes to Fisher for advice - How can he make her see that he won’t make the same mistake again?

Robbie and Tasha realise that Beth doesn’t take their ‘marriage’ seriously. They take her aside and try again to explain they want to set up their own house. Beth’s shocked! Now she can see they’re really serious and she’s troubled.

Everyone is helping set up the party at Summer Bay House - inflating balloons, getting boxes of streamers out etc. Morag arrives from the airport with Celia, rolling her eyes about the journey they have just shared. Amidst the hellos and introductions, a grumpy Alf arrives. Hearing his voice at the door, everyone panics and has to quickly hide as Sally heads him off. Alf’s so caught up in his own woes about his birthday celebrations (or lack of), he doesn’t even notice the cover up for the party. Phew …

Tasha tracks Beth down and is open and honest about why they want to do this. They love each other and it’s time to start their lives together. Tasha says her support on this is important to them. Beth remains quiet as she takes Tasha’s words on board.

Duncan arrives at Summer Bay House, he’s here to really make an effort and show Alf he’s changed – but he knows it’s not going to be easy. He starts off by apologising to people he’s hurt.

Sophie reveals to Pippa the lengths Blake has gone to in an attempt to win her back, but she still can’t bring herself to trust him again. Pippa understands she’s protecting herself but asks her if she wants to live her life in fear? Sophie’s left with food for thought.

Beth comes back and offers a compromise. Why don’t they live in Robbie’s room for a while? Robbie and Tasha discuss the pros and cons of living under Beth’s roof as a couple and agree to take her up on the offer. However, they make it clear that they want to live their own life – just as if they had their own place.

Streamers and balloons are up; the table is laden with food and everyone is ready for Alf’s big surprise. Ric and Martha arrive at the Diner apartment to collect Alf, but he’s not there. Ric finds a note on the table –he’s gone fishing! In other words, he could be anywhere… A search party is quickly arranged with everyone forming into pairs. Blake and Sophie are the only pair left – they have no choice but to search together… Everyone heads off – the search for Alf is on!

Blake and Sophie head up the beach and their reminiscing makes Sophie smile for the first time. She’s starting to thaw and Blake’s pleased to see it! They find Alf walking along the beach and without giving too much away tell him to come back with them. Back at the Summer Bay House, the excitement is building. They take their positions. Sophie and Blake lead Alf into the house, as everyone leaps out – surprise!

G’day, Stewie! Alf can’t believe it. How many more people are going to spring from the wood work?! Jesse tells Chloe how he feels. Chloe’s embarrassed and sorry if she made him think there was anything going on – she thought they were just hanging out as friends… Jesse attempts to backtrack and pretend all is good but we see he’s hurt. Jesse slips out.

Sophie tells Sal it feels just like it used to with Blake … Sally – so what does it mean…? Sophie just smiles. Blake promises Sophie he’d never hurt her again and they kiss. Will and Hayley catch up re: her heart condition, her pregnancy…and Kim. Seeing them together, Will senses she’s not really that into Kim and calls her on it. Hayley’s silence speaks volumes and Will guesses she’s not over Scott. He tells her to be true to her heart.

05_12_19_08.jpg

Alf watches on fondly at the party going on around him. Pippa joins him. ‘Let me guess – you’re thinking about Ailsa?’ Alf smiles – she’d have loved this. A tender moment between the two friends. Then he spots another face come through the door a…it’s Sarah! Stone the flamin’ crows! Troy crashes the party, begging for Chloe. The guys get rid of him – but not until he’s given one final threat. Chloe’s shaken – she’s never going to be able to escape him, is she?

05_12_19_09.jpg

They do have one final surprise for him… Who’s the one member of the family that’s missing? Barbara! The first time all the siblings have been together… Alf comments how glad he is to have his family around him, but it’s such a shame Roo couldn’t get here. Duncan’s starting to get a bit annoyed at being ignored. Duncan has a go at Alf (he came back trying to do the right thing – but Alf has just proved he couldn’t give a stuff about him!) He leaves the party and Alf feels bad. Everyone gathers for a group photo.

05_12_19_10.jpg

Blake proposes to Sophie! She accepts. Ric, Martha, and Sally give speeches and the birthday cake is presented, leading into a flashback sequence. The party winds up and Alf’s thanks everyone for coming. Left alone, Sally and Alf share a moment… It’s been a great 18 years, hasn’t it? The best…

Laughing and chatting about the party, Chloe drives Alf, Ric, Cassie and Kim into Yabbie Creek to continue the evening. Then, out of nowhere, a car travelling in the other direction comes straight for them, forcing Chloe to swerve. As there are screams and the screeching of brakes, we fade to black to hear the sound of an impact and metal being crunched – an accident, the magnitude of which we can only begin to imagine.

I think it's fantastic that they managed to get all the Summer Bay oldies in one place for Home and Away's 4000th episode and Alf's 60th birthday!

I can't wait for the montage of 18 years of Home and Away in tonight's episode in the UK. I hope that Home and Away is still running in another 4000 episodes and still as great as ever!

Merry Christmas

Thanks for posting the episode guides!

Things are clearly awkward between Hayley and Scott, but Hayley takes his arm and smiles – this is Dan and Leah’s day and they’re both going to put their own problems aside for the time being and concentrate on the task at hand. Scott smiles, happily taking Hayley’s arm.

Was this bit cut from the episode or something? I don't remember seeing it and I watched it twice.
