It was past 5 when he woke up to a loud screaming sound. Rolling over he saw Louisa desperately trying to comfort Elsie.

‘Can’t you shut her up!’ he asked.

‘I can’t!’ she replied ‘She’s hungry.’

‘What does she need.’ Henry asked with a sigh.

‘Just a biscuit or something!’

Henry made his way out to the kitchen. He came face to face with a very angry Matilda.

‘Who’s in your room?’ She asked

‘No-one!’ He lied.

‘I don’t believe you! They woke me up!’

‘Please don’t tell mum!’ Henry begged ‘She’s a heavy sleeper she doesn’t have to know!’

‘Know what?’ Beth asked emerging from around the corner.

‘Nothing!’ Henry said defensively.

‘You’re lying!’ she told him.

‘No I’m not!’ he said trying to cover his tracks.

‘I know you have someone in your room. Now are you going to tell me who it is or am I’m going to have to guess?’

This is so unfair, Matilda’s allowed to have sleepovers!’

‘But she bothers to tell me when her friends are coming round!’

Matilda smirked at Henry.

Hearing the commotion Louisa peered out of the door. Matilda caught sight of her.

‘Oh hello Louisa what a surprise it is to see you here!’ Matilda said sarcastically.

Beth swung round, before glaring back at Henry.

‘You had a girl in your room!’ Beth said raising her voice ‘You know the rules on having girls in your room Henry, especially at night.’

‘I’m really sorry Mrs Hunter, I didn’t mean to be this much trouble!’ Louisa said apologetically.

‘Don’t worry it’s not your fault, I just wish Henry had bothered to tell me sooner.’ Beth said comfortingly.

‘Now I think you all better get back to bed.’ Beth told all three of them.

They all turned heading towards the bedrooms.

‘Just one question,’ Beth asked ‘Why are you sneaking biscuits out of the cupboard?’

Henry moved from foot to foot uncomfortably.

‘It’s for Elsie!’ Louisa suddenly blurted out.

‘Oh this keeps getting better.’ Beth exclaimed ‘Now I find out you have another girl in your room!’

‘It’s not like that!’ Henry exclaimed.

‘Oh then what is it like?’ Beth asked him.

Henrys eyes glanced first to Matilda who was standing behind Beth with a triumphant smirk on her face, and then to Louisa, looking for a sign to allow him to tell beth all about Elsie.

Louisa stepped forward.

‘Elsie is my little girl.’

‘Oh. Right.’ Beth said unsure of what to say.

‘I’ve got Henry in enough trouble. I really should go!’ Louisa told Beth.

‘I think that would be for the best!’ Matilda said.

‘Matilda!’ Beth shouted.

‘What?’ Matilda shrugged

‘Oh I’m too tired for this! All of you go to bed! We’ll sort this all out in the morning.’ Beth said pushing the all towards the bedroom.
