MARCUS Jacometti is about to look a whole lot more familiar.

The 18-year-old from Kingston is set to star on the hit TV soap Home & Away after a dream run into acting.

He will play Diesel Williams, a troubled runaway in 20 episodes to start airing in Tasmania this week.

At home to catch up with family and friends, he said he was incredibly lucky.

"It's the most awesome feeling," he said.

"I find it hard watching myself on TV so far but I couldn't have asked for a better start."

After finishing Year 12 at Rosny College, Jacometti headed straight for Sydney late last year.

His agent secured him an audition for the role in January and the seven-week shoot started soon after.

"I was new to Sydney and I was driving around getting totally lost before the audition and I was running late," he said.

"I was all sweaty and out of character but somehow got the part.

"I was lucky because there were heaps of guys trying out."

He is already being recognised in Sydney where several of the episodes have gone to air.

"A bus driver said `hey, I know you, you're Diesel' and I just slunk out of there and caught another bus," he said. "It's weird, amazing."

Nervous at first, Jacometti said he was soon put at ease by his cast mates.

"I was expecting these massive celebrities that I couldn't get near but it wasn't like that at all," he said.

"They are all so sincere, just wonderful people and really helpful."

While he can't reveal plot lines, it is a given Diesel will wind up in strife.

"He falls in love with the wrong people, causes a bit of trouble and then gets out of there," Jacometti said.

"I don't think we're alike but maybe his core is similar to mine."

Jacometti has since auditioned for several roles in upcoming feature movies and said he was glad the soapie experience did not extend into months or years.

"You can get stuck in a soap which isn't always good for your career, so I've been told," he said.

He was overwhelmed to be back in Tasmania where he first tasted acting as the lead in A Christmas Carol at the Theatre Royal in 2003.

So he isn't staying?

Its a shame because he shows a lot more potential than others that are on the show :(

H&A writers meeting:

'Gee, this character seems... interesting.'

'The actor's great, too. I saw the latest rushes, and I didn't fall asleep during his scenes.'

'It's almost as if he's... playing the right age.'

'And he's starting to pick up a following.'

'All agreed, then?'

'Yep... he's out.'

But isn't it just the way F'eck?

I would love for Diesel to stick around. But, no. I declare that I am Diesel's biggest fan.

Sounds like the actor wasn't into a long stay on Home and Away anyway, so I guess I'll deal with that.

And whoever said the bus driver would try to use him as fuel, that was so funny.
