Thanks for posting all of these diary entries. They're terrific! It's also heartening to know that I'm not the only person who used to get quite invested in some characters more than others. Did you work out the H&A rosters and figure out when your favourite characters would or wouldn't be appearing?

I wish   I was still a teenager at the time and looking back at the reasons I was nowhere near a telly at the time I had had to go somewhere with my parents.  I would have much rather be watching H&A!  Also in 1996 and 1997 I had a benign tumour on my left knee.  It was removed in Autumn 1997 but I was attending medical appointments to try and work out what was going on.  It did mean I could spend time watching H&A when I was off school and recovering though which was in 1997.

It's another world, isn't it? My parents (wisely!) refused to get a VCR for years so I missed episodes of H&A for all sorts of reasons. I remember feeling quite peeved that I missed an episode I really wanted to see because a bad thunderstorm started up outside. Our TV had previously been damaged by a power surge caused by lightning so any time a thunderstorm started up, the telly had to be plugged out.

January 1998:

05.01 Steven helps Chris make a dinosaur.  Selina gives Steven back the ring so he can give it to her when she is ready.  Steven and Selina chat a lot.  Selina decides to go overseas after Steven offers her the chance in exchange for the luxurious honeymoon package.  Tiegan gets jealous of Kim.

06.01 Selina gets ready to go overseas.  Lachie wishes Chloe good luck in the HSC.  Sally and Chloe take the HSC.  Kim gets upset when she realises Joey doesn’t fancy her.

07.01 Steven has dinner at Selina’s house.   Steven and Selina say goodbye on the beach and kiss.  Steven says he will come and find Selina if she doesn’t return.  Steven and Selina leave. Travis and Rebecca have dinner together.

08.01 Jesse kisses his lawyer Paula who he used to know as a kid.  Casey and the class turn their desks around except Joey and let chickens loose.  Brett is not impressed.

09.01 Lachie stands Terri up at the Surf Club by mistake but they make up afterwards.  Brett gives Kim detention and then finds out she is deaf.  Brett and the Stewarts have dinner at Don’s house.  Kim starts to feel she is part of the gang.

10.01 Brett apologises to Kim.  Irene  gets upset when Joey totally changes Selina’s room into the way he wants.  Brett’s class sit on the floor for the lesson on purpose.

13.01 Casey talks to her father on the phone and thanks about moving to New York to live with him.  Brett humiliates Casey over her essay.

14.01 Don has a go at the class for giving Brett a hard time.  Aaron declares war on Brett.  Chloe feels ill before, during and after the exam.  Lachie looks after her.   Lachie doesn’t realise Chloe is pregnant.

15.01 Kylie and Rachel come to stay. Rachel doesn’t recognise Jesse with his new haircut.  Terri asks Lachie if he would marry a girl he got pregnant but he doesn’t twig she means Chloe.  Lachie helps Chloe with Biology.

16.01 Travis, Rebecca, Chloe, Terri and Lachie have a picnic together.  Terri confronts Chloe over the baby but Chloe denies it’s Lachie’s.  Kylie spends the day in Summer Bay.

17.01 Kylie dumps Rachel at short notice at Jesse’s.  Alf argues with Don over the play at the Diner.  Marilyn gets cross with Alf.

18.01 Tiegan comes and gives her opinion at the P&C meeting.  The play is allowed to be performed.  Duncan and Rachel play together.

21.01 Brett is harder on the class.  Kylie decides to move to Summer Bay and gets a job at the Surf Club.  Lachie and Chloe chat.

26.01 Joey glues his hand to his bag by  mistake.  Lachie finds out Chloe is pregnant but thinks it’s Jesse’s.  Travis says it might not be.  Irene finds out.

27.01 Lachie finally finds out he’s the father and tells Terri.  The class behave like angels when Arthur Briggs assesses the class.  Brett doesn’t suspect a thing.  Rebecca  and Travis talk to Mrs Kelly.

28.01 Vinnie and Justine spend time together at the play which doesn’t please Pippa.  Lachie and Terri split up.

29.01 Tim comes to see Sally.  Sally agrees to go  on a yacht trip with Tim.  The class watch as Brett  gets stuck to his chair and can’t get off.  Don finds out.

30.01 Casey admits she glued Brett to his chair.  Brett finishes his job.  Pippa is in a bad mood and bans Justine from seeing Vinnie.  Pippa agrees to Sally going on the yacht trip.  Casey leaves for New York.

February 1998:

02.02 Justine’s Mum invites her but not Aaron home for Christmas.  Justine decides not to go.   Vinnie and Tim’s step-uncle Hai both apply for a job at the Bait Shop.  Chloe finds out Lachie and Terri have split up.  Marilyn wants to adopt Chloe’s baby.

04.02 Lachie and Chloe kiss.  Lachie tells his mother Diana he has got a girl pregnant.  Lachie talks to Marilyn about the operation.

05.02 Chloe and Lachie declare their love for each other.  Rebecca and Travis  tell everyone to come to the secret wedding and say it’s a party.  Diana  meets Chloe.  Vinnie gives Justine a ring.

06.02 Season Finale Travis and Rebecca get married.   Irene and Diana meet  and chat.  Pippa is delighted when Ian comes back.  Tiegan and Joey kiss.  Vinnie admits he got the money for the ring from Rod.  Diana and Lachie chat about Chloe.  Travis and Rebecca give each other their wedding presents to each other.

09.02 Season Return 6 weeks later Pippa and Ian go on a date.   Justine invites Vinnie around.  Ian asks Pippa to be more negotiable with Vinnie.  It is a very hot day.

Ian leaves the Bay.  Marilyn finds out her operation is tomorrow.  Chloe says to Don’s face that he is a pain at school.

12.02 The whole episode is about Marilyn’s operation.  Strategy for keeping her quiet – thermometer!  While operating, they find something wrong.  Don talks to Marilyn about the operation.

13.02 Vinnie pretends to be ill to get his dole but doesn’t succeed.  Marilyn’s operation is a success.  Travis and Rebecca go on their honeymoon.  We see a boat in distress.   Hai decides to open the Bait Shop earlier in the morning.

16.02 Travis and Rebecca find a man on the yacht.  They interrupt their honeymoon to take him to hospital.  Travis goes back to investigate and somebody shoots him.  Vinnie is accused of vandalising the Bait Shop.

17.02 Everyone guesses Pippa and Ian are getting married.   Pippa says though it’s a tour.  Tiegan and Justine want to stay.  Travis is rescued and the man turns out to be a criminal.

18.02 Diana encourages Chloe to take the scholarship.  Tiegan makes up with Joey.

19.02 Everyone agrees that Alf should pay $10,000 over the haircut.  Chloe stands up to Diana but Diana carries on persisting over Lachie’s career.

20.02 Diana invites Claudia to the Bay.  Justine finds out about Vinnie owing Rod.

23.02 Someone from the DSS comes to talk to Pippa’s family about options when Pippa leaves.  Claudia makes a pass at Lachie.

24.02 Lachie and Claudia chat.  Chloe comes back and is upset when she finds out Claudia didn’t know about the pregnancy.  It is the final day of school.  Tiegan and Justine ask Rebecca to be the supervisor but Pippa says no.  Rebecca and Travis offer to have one of the kids.

25.02 Travis and Rebecca realise they can’t afford to have anyone.  Tiegan and Justine suck up to Rebecca.  Chloe gets mad with Duncan.

26.02 Tim applies and gets the job on Travis’s boat.   Sam  gets  more friendly with Rod. Vinnie wants to take over Pippa’s secretary  job.

27.02 The protestors protest at Christine’s meeting.   Aaron and Joey play their guitars.  Sam gets some names for Rod.  There was a long ending today.

March 1998:

02.03 Sam and Rod steal some stuff.  Pippa gets angry with Sam for staying out late.  Justine refuses Alf’s offer to live with him when Pippa goes as she’s fallen out with Aaron.  Rod demands the money from Vinnie.

03.03 Tiegan auditions on the drums with Rebecca’s help for the band and gets in.  Chloe tells Lachie to choose between her and his mother.

04.03 Justine gets drunk and makes a fool of herself.  Justine apologises though.  Kylie and Jesse fight.  Chloe and Lachie split up which pleases Diana very much.

05.03 Tiegan suggests to Travis and Rebecca they move into Pippa’s but Sally and Tim also want to.  Diana blackmails Chloe over being an ex drug addict.

06.03 Travis and Rebecca ask Pippa about moving.  She thinks about it and agrees.   Sally is upset.  Pippa remembers Sally crying over Frank leaving and a younger Marilyn is in the background. Kylie and Jesse admit their feelings for each other and become a couple.  Rod drops Sam from the gang and hurts Sam’s  arm.

09.03 Sam is taken to hospital and given stitches.  Pippa is not convinced he tripped over!  Sally is in a bad mood.   Chloe tells Lachie that she doesn’t love  him anymore. Lachie is very confused and considers going to the City.

10.03 Sally apologises for being rude to Tim.  Sam drove the blood-stained car into the  shop.  He and Rod are taken to jail.  Terri’s back and Lachie tries to be friendly once again.

11.03 Lillian shows she likes Joey.  The committee give Tiegan 2 week rubbish duty. Tiegan and Joey split up.

12.03 Hai resigns as he is going to law school.  Tiegan and Aaron try to find a way to tell Joey he’s no good.   Tiegan and Joey swap instruments.  Irene forces the truth out of Chloe about the blackmailing.  Irene records a conversation with Diana about it.  She plays it to a shocked Lachie.

13.03 Lachie gets cross with Diana and forces her not to tell  about the drugs.  Damian’s friend Will Smith turns up to stay with Irene.

16.03 Lillian finds prawns in her locker.  Irene is upset when Joey tells Will about Saul.

17.03 Will stirs up trouble with everyone.  Kylie gets jealous of Jesse and Chloe’s past.  Chloe wants a DNA test but Lachie talks her out of it.

18.03 Travis is shocked to find out his brother Joel’s family has arrived to live in the Bay after not seeing him for 17 years.  Joel talks to Alf who remembers him.  Joel goes to see his old house, gives Chloe and Kylie a fright but apologises.  Tom and Natalie are fine about the move but Gypsy isn’t impressed to move to a small town.

19.03 The family go to look round the school.  Justine shows Gypsy and Tom round.  Gypsy says how small it is.   Vinnie gets interested  in Gypsy.  Natalie and Rebecca meet and chat.   Joel was threatened for dobbing people into the cops into the police so that’s why they left Hong Kong.  Marilyn encourages Don to go on a diet.

20.03 Marilyn invites Natalie on a shopping trip. Justine finds out about Vinnie and Gypsy.  Don asks Joel for advice on his diet.

23.03 Natalie’s maiden name is Swanson.   She was a champion swimmer and was able to go to the Olympics at the time she and Joel left 17 years ago.   Rebecca and Travis ask her about it but she won’t say anything.  Gypsy and Tom start at school.

24.03 When Joel left, his father gave up coaching as well.  Alf knows the secret.   Joel warns Travis to stay away.   Tiegan and Joey make up.

25.03 Travis’s father made  advances on Natalie so that’s why they left.  Travis is upset they left him and their mother to cope .  Will stands up for Sam.  Lachie and Chloe meet their new neighbours.  (They are living in Travis and Rebecca’s old flat.)

26.03 Irene finds out Selina has caught malaria.   She and Marilyn plan to go to England.   Chloe gets really annoyed and shouts at the neighbour.  Sally breaks up with Tim over his jealousy.  Lachie examines Kylie.  Kylie tries to contact her mother.

30.03 Aaron and Lillian get together.  Justine realises what Lillian is really like.  Tim accuses Travis of being interested in Sally. Tim is in a really bad mood about breaking up.   Will is  interested in Gypsy.

31.03 Gypsy and Justine become friends.   Tiegan, Justine and Gypsy form a band The Broken Dolls.  Tom, suspects Travis of behaving like Travis’s father.

April 1998:

01.04 Travis is upset over the rumours and throws someone out.

02.04 Kylie finds a picture of Selina and Rachel in Jesse’s wallet and gets jealous.  Tom and Justine persuade Don to let the school have drama lessons.

03.04 Kylie and Jesse fight and Rachel goes missing.  They find her and decide to get married.  Vinnie persuades Don to pay the band.  But Vinnie tries to rip the band off.  Tom shows his interest for Justine.

06.04 Tom, Aaron and Vinnie are interested in the job on the boat.  Vinnie gets it.  Lillian makes Aaron choose between her and his friends.  Aaron chooses Lillian.  Kylie has got a secret.

07.04 Vinnie taks out the boat without Travis and gets into trouble.  Gypsy finds out Tom likes Justine.

08.04 Aaron finally dumps Lillian and apologises to everyone.

09.04 Chloe talks to Pippa about having a home birth.  Everyone talks about Bonza Burger. Gypsy asks Will about his family.

14.04 Sally sees a picture of Kylie being the driver in a hit and run accident.  Kylie agrees for Rachel to be immunised. Lachie finally agrees to a  home birth.

15.04 Tiegan tells Pippa that she is worried she will go back to being hot-tempered.   Ian comes back.  Pippa finds out Sally has organised a farewell party and stops it.  Tom has a go at Joel at school.

16.04 Travis tells Vinnie he will have to pay for the boat damages.  Joel lets Tom take the job on the boat.  Sally throws Pippa a surprise farewell party.

17.04 Pippa leaves with Christopher and Ian.  Lachie and Chloe meet Jason and Tamara.  Tamara won’t stop talking about Jason.  They see Jason having lunch with Terri.  Travis and Rebecca discuss travelling.

20.04 Vinnie’s new job is a stripper.  He is booked by Chloe for Kylie’s hen night.  The men watch a video.  Terri splits up with Jason and blames Chloe and Lachie.

21.04 Kylie and Jesse’s wedding  is interrupted by the police.  Terri tries to get back together with Lachie.  Joel finds Will’s song words.

22.04 The kids are surprised when Rebecca and Travis act lovingly to each other.  Kylie admits it was her who was the driver in the hit and run accident.  Jason tries to suck up to Alf and Ailsa.

23.04 Kylie is allowed home when Jesse persuades Alf to bail her out.  The  kids protest against Bonza Burger.  Someone sets fire to it.  Tamara finds out about Terri and Jason.

24.04 Kylie tells Jesse she won’t marry him.  Tamara has a go at Jason and says she’s leaving.   Natalie proves a hit at rowing.

27.04 Will causes the football captain to twist his knee.

28.04 Gypsy makes up with Will after Joel steps in.  Tom makes Justine something but they have a misunderstanding.

29.04 Selina has had malaria and Irene is worried about her.  Irene invites Steven over to England.  Steven gives Selina back the ring and they are going to go travelling together.  They share a kiss at the end.  Marilyn narrates the episode to Don.  Irene and Bill enjoy spending time together but decide to leave things as they are.

30.04 Natalie meets Vinnie.  Rebecca finds it hard to control the kids.  Will and Joey find out Irene is coming back and they haven’t tidied up.

May 1998:

01.05 Joey and Will get the place cleared up before  Irene gets back.  Irene tells everyone Steven and Selina are touring Europe.  Tom gets upset over the competition.

05.05 Vinnie wins the competition.  Tom narrates his mistakes.  Tiegan makes Sam sprain his wrist.

06.05 Jason hardly lets Vinnie get a word in when they chat at the Diner.  A new foster kid, George turns up and is very difficult.   Kylie learns she’ll get 6 years in prison.

07.05 Rachel finds out from Alf Kylie is going to jail.  George sucks up to Rebecca after hearing from Ailsa they’ve never had a fight.  Travis and Rebecca have a fight and are not speaking.

08.05 Travis and Rebecca make up after realising George set up the argument.  Jesse keeps on insisting they skip bail.  Kylie says no.  Vinnie is very lazy so he can get the sack.

11.05 The bands are nervous about the dance.  Vinnie finds the work too hard.

12.05 It is the night of the dance.  Both the bands do well.   Gypsy and Will sneak off and get locked in the music room.  Everyone is nervous.  Travis and Rebecca have an evening alone.

15.05 Kylie and Jesse go on the run.

18.05 Natalie agrees Joel is being very sexist. Joel has grounded Gypsy and let Tom stay out really late.  Terri discovers Kylie and Jesse have done a runner.   Terri drives Lachie mad with her questions.

19.05 Chloe’s contractions start.   Everyone remembers Jesse acting strangely.  Tiegan and Sam team up to play a trick on Travis.

20.05 Candy dumps Tom.   Vinnie offers to help Don with school funds.

21.05 Chloe’s waters break on the beach.  She gets home and gives birth to a baby girl.  Rebecca and Travis discuss having kids.

22.05 Don tells everyone Angel has had a son Colin on the same day that Chloe and Lachie’s baby was born.  Chloe and Lachie show off their baby but fight over the name.  Joey finds out he’s won the competition but has to go and collect the award.

26.05 Rachel cuts herself and Kylie drives her to the doctor.   Kylie spies the police who stop Kylie as she hasn’t got a licence.  Tiegan dresses Joey up as he collects his award.

27.05 Vinnie sets up a plan to get himself fired and it works.

28.05 Vinnie strips out of his uniform.  Sally starts working at Bonza Burgers.   Terri comes to see the baby.   Jesse and Kylie find out about the baby and ring Chloe and Lachie’s phone.  Jesse mistakens Terri for Chloe and they get caught.

29.05 Kylie is taken to prison.  Jesse explains to Travis and Rebecca.   Rachel makes Terri feel a bit guilty.

June 1998:

01.06 Diana comes to see Olivia.  Tiegan learns she is still in the band.  Kylie is given an eight year sentence.

02.06 Gypsy gets notes off Tiegan.  Travis finds drugs in the house.  Marilyn returns and wants a baby.

03.06 Travis finds out Gypsy put the drugs in the fridge.  Sally stays out really late..

04.06 Travis is 25.  Travis speaks to Gypsy about the drugs.  Justine finds out Vinnie saw another girl.  Vinnie moves in with Jesse.

05.06 Vinnie panics when he hears he has to pay the rent by tomorrow.  Marilyn holds the slide show for the others to watch.

08.06 Gypsy admits to nothing.  Lillian’s bag is searched and she blames Gypsy.  Vinnie worries about the rent.   Travis tries to get to know Joel.

09.06 Jesse wants Sally to move in but she says no because of Vinnie.  Joel and Natalie talk to Gypsy.

10.06 Diana  is very annoying.  Everyone ignores Gypsy and she gets upset.  Irene feels she’ll get the sack.

11.06 Vinnie scratches Travis’s van and has to pay $400.  Everyone tries to get Joey  to use his prize money but he refuses.  Marilyn is pregnant.

17.06 Ailsa tries to get Irene to come back.  Marilyn is really excited.  The Surf Rock Cafe is really different.  (Sara Mumcu is now playing Rachel.)

22.06 Leila starts at the school.   Aaron and Tom  are interested in her.  Tiegan and Justine are friendly to Gypsy.  Jesse considers a job at the Surf Rock Cafe.  Everyone says Will is going to dump Gypsy.

23.06 Tom and Aaron get to know Leila. Gypsy finds out Will isn’t going to dump her.   Gypsy thinks about dobbing Lillian in.

24.06 It is the dance.  Chook buys drugs and is caught by Joel.  Sally moves in with Jesse and Vinnie.

25.06 Marilyn tells Olivia she’s pregnant.  Lachie goes to see the doctor and is admitted to the city.  Lillian and Chook are expelled.

26.06 Lachie admits and finds out he could have a brain tumour.  Will and Harry arrange a fight.  Sally does some shopping.

July 1998:

03.07 Cancelled due to the football

06.07 Chloe puts on a brave face over Lachie being in a coma.  Alf and Ailsa offer to look after Olivia.  Marilyn takes Aaron for a driving lesson, Marilyn wears a crash helmet.

07.07 The kids protest over Lillian.  Lachie regains consciousness.

08.07 Everyone follows Lillian.  Jesse and Mardi become friends.

09.07 Mardi and Natalie talk.  Tiegan and Leila set up a plan to get back at Tom and Aaron.

13.07 Joey declares  a sandcastle competition.   Tom does better than Aaron but a dog crumples it.  Mardi shows her interest for Jesse.  Lachie isn’t able to talk.

14.07 Will is good at throwing the javelin.  Vinnie boasts he does a lot of housework.  Emily stays the night.

15.07 Vinnie tells everyone he and Justine are sleeping together.  She finds out.  Diana asks Chloe to become friends.

16.07 Tom  and Aaron do the kid’s playground.  Tom is stopped by a Mum sending him off.  Justine gets cross with Vinnie.

20.07 Tom and Aaron end  the competition when they realise Leila wants neither of them.  Everyone discusses Justine sleeping with Vinnie.

21.07 Jesse finds the letter sent back because it is damaged.  Jesse makes up with Mardi.   Will gets fed up and dumps Gypsy.

22.07 Rachel chokes on a biscuit.

23.07 Jesse goes to see Lachie.   Irene discovers she is useless at typing.

27.07 Sam reveals Vinnie and Justine are sleeping together.  Marilyn finds out Irene is useless at typing.

28.07 Marilyn offers to help Irene.  Jesse and Mardi go on a date.

29.07 Tom, Aaron and Joey wash cars for money and use Vinnie’s boat to make money.

August 1998:

10.08 Justine speaks at the parent’s meeting.  Chloe can’t cope.

17.08 Sally leaves Vinnie and Jesse to look after themselves which is a disaster.  Daria starts at school and everyone thinks she is strange.

18.08 Chloe moves back into Irene’s.  Jesse goes to visit Kylie.  Rachel goes missing.

19.08 The band get Rebecca to let them practice till really late.  They get caught by Don.

20.08 Will does badly on purpose at the javelin at the Sports Carnival  The band do well and get a Bonza Burger Nation Scheme.  Daria has a fit.

24.08 Tom is upset Joel didn’t watch his race. Vinnie dresses in a suit but nobody takes him seriously.

25.08 Sam avoids Daria but she comes round to see him.

26.08 Daria has tea at the Nash house.

27.08 The band record their CD.  Aaron gets invited to join another band.
