15 Fisher He was a badly written, one-dimensional character in the first few months of 1988 but thankfully they figured out what he should be. Giving him a daughter (Bobby) was an inspired move by the writers.

14 Bobby Another character who improved over time. She hit her stride in 1989 and became more and more interesting until she married Greg.

13 Steven He had a busy year and some memorable storylines. At times he could be a pain in the rear but what teenage boy isn’t?

12 Morag It was nice to see her good and bad sides. Somewhere in there beats a human heart. She was always good fun, even when doing terrible things.

11 Alf Continued where he'd left off

10 Ailsa Ditto

9 Pippa Ditto

8 Tom Generally solid but in hindsight you can see the seeds of why he was written out in 1990.

7 Celia A character let down by poor writing. Fiona Spence was terrific as Celia but nobody else seemed to get what the character could be. The storyline where she falls for Nigel is particularly poignant.

6 Carly I preferred her in the following years when she matured and we saw more of her warmth.

5 Roo Became less interesting in 1989 and had more or less run her course by the time she left. It was a waste of Justine Clarke’s talents IMHO.

4 Sally She was still too young at this point and the interesting storylines were to come in later years

3 Frank Good looking lad but not a particularly interesting character. I never thought he and Bobby had chemistry and couldn’t care less when he finally pushed off half way through the year

1&2 Lance and Martin This unfunny double act shouldn’t have made it past the closing credits of the pilot episode.
