2020 Season - UK Episode Discussion

Ari overacted when Colby asked a perfectly innocent question as to whether he had seen anything the night before, it's what he would have asked anyone who had been around the night before.  Correction btw the till was empty so I'm guessing whoever it was opened it expecting there to be money in it and got angry when there wasn't. The Parata's are all assuming the worse, comes with having dodgy pasts I guess.  After the macho stuff finished they actually all agreed to stick together and show an united front, Ari has stopped being so suspicious of Tane, so some good has come out of it.  Nik has a black hoody and maybe he came home as there wasn't any money in  the till.

Gemma was an ex employee and Leah had forgotten about her, until Justin(?)  gave her memory a nudge.  What about the customers that pass through and not all locals we know.  Gemma had heard about the break-in and must have realised her prints as someone who used to work there and who still uses the place would have to be taken for elimination purposes if nothing else  so now who's acting suspicious. At least there won't be many prints to pick as Leah would have wiped the place down after she closed up.  Irene is on holiday don't forget. Her refusing as she had a right to do is get Colby's antenna twitching. Has Gemma got a record or would have her prints been taken as a result of what Mikaere did. Nifty little machine they now use to take prints, they are straight to the National Data  Base, none of that rolling your fingers on that black ink, sending them off to the lab which took ages.

That was a relief Leah asked Justin to give her a hug.  Is she ready to go back, she will tend to be wary of any new customers or even others she doesn't know that well.

Alf did the right thing seeing how worried Ryder was and Even did have the sense not to ignore his symptoms and went to get himself checked out.  Good thinking on Ryder's part to work out where Even would likely be and stop him leaving. How far would he have got on that bus before he needed help? Guess he's inherited Evan's stubborn streak.

I thought the thief did take some money from the till? Customers wouldn't touch the till, so no need to get all their fingerprints. I know Irene's on holiday, but she's worked there more recently than Gemma has so the police would still need her prints.

I can kind of see where Evan's coming from: His plan was probably to come to town, have a fun time with Ryder, and then disappear never to be seen again leaving him with fond memories.Instead, there's a risk Ryder will remember him primarily as someone who was sick. It's a selfish viewpoint in a way, but Ryder smothering him doesn't help.

When Colby said it was the first time he'd been able to celebrate a birthday with Bella, I thought "What happened on her birthday last year?" I know she didn't celebrate on screen, and I've got an odd feeling she was living with Irene at the time although I haven't checked, but wouldn't they have at least seen each other? Dean's straight talking worked: It's a shame she has a low-key celebration but most of the important people were there. (I was disappointed she didn't get a Happy Birthday scene with Ryder despite him being in the episode, since that's his three episodes so I doubt we'll see him tomorrow.) I am enjoying this new, more relaxed version of her (she seems to be dressing more grown-up too), while still retaining a bit of her old attitude. So, is she going to TAFE after all, despite missing all those weeks?

I'm not sure how annoyed I am with Maggie, who was bordering on being the obnoxious character she was when she first came in. Those little scenes of her alone did illicit sympathy, and to be fair it was Gemma that approached her and she probably wouldn't have said anything otherwise. But come on, she's the one who actually slept with someone after being broken up with Ben for five minutes. She doesn't get to cast herself as the victim and try and turn Ben and Gemma into the villains of the piece.

My thought exactly Red, Bella has had a Birthday since she's been in the bay, even if we didn't see it, but I'm sure we saw a muffin with a candle in it, unless my memory has finally failed me?  That was one low key 18th, but at least it was remembered unlike Ryder's who I guess had other things on his mind.  I thought TAFE had been deferred for a year when she went into therapy?  She is stronger now, but glad to see flashes of the old, good Bella.

I think that is what Evan was planning to do too,  stay awhile, give Ryder some good memories of him, then leave and at some point someone would let him know Evan had died.  Spooky his saying almost the same words Robbo as in he didn't want Ryder to see him die.  It is Ryder that is wanting him to stay so Evan isn't being selfish in that regard.  Mac is being very understanding in letting him take time off, but Evan won't be happy he's quit to look after him, he wants Ryder to be his son, not his carer. Roo got it spot on when Evan said Ryder was stubborn and she asked him 'wonder who he gets that from?'  Could say the same about Alf and her.

Yes Maggie - she has gone from begging Ben to give them another chance to accusing him of having a red hot affair.  Ben was taking liberties just walking in the house like that, it is something that is usually understood, the person who has left, knocks on the door not march straight in.  Of course that accusation had to come up, was he getting revenge on what she did!   Ben has told her nothing happened, yes they did sleep together, but it was really sleeping.  Maybe that is why Gemma approached Maggie to reaffirm what Ben had said, not that Maggie would take her word for it anyway.  Where, though, did 'you swooped right in' and 'didn't you notice his wedding ring' come from, Gemma doesn't look or seem the predatory female type.  It didn't matters at all when Maggie saw Ben talking to Gemma on Salt's balcony and give her arm a reassuring pat. Loved Dean's call to Ziggy about WWIII breaking out between her mum and dad.

See Alf asks Marilyn asks a very pertinent question tonight., one that has already crossed my mind.

We saw Colby carrying out the cupcake routine two years ago, when Bella was still missing, so that's a nice callback at least. Since when did Bella not go swimming? I mean, I don't think we've seen it before but it feels like we've often seen her say she's going swimming with Willow or coming back from it. But it remains nice to see her happy. And it's interesting that her last experience with alcohol has put her off drinking, I wonder if that one will stick.Amusing that Dean thinks the most important thing about turning 18 is now you go to adult prison.

In a sense Ben's getting a taste of what it's like to be on the other side, as now Maggie's stonewalling him and refusing to listen to his explanations or forgive a perceived betrayal. She is being extremely irrational though, not even able to decide what grand gesture she's making as she moves from handing the house over to Ben, to getting rid of his things, to moving to Italy. (For the wine, apparently.) I don't blame Ben looking for an excuse to get away from Ziggy, but he's got some thinking to do.Maggie apparently forgot they sold the whole pier, not just the Diner!

There are times when Marilyn really does just need to go away. Not for the first time, this feels less about helping someone else and more about needing to do something for her own sake.Having lost the Paratas as a project, it seems John is the latest unlucky recipient. She seriously needs to listen to him once in a while, she's on the way to being banned from visiting him again.Mind you, I've never really been able to blow up a balloon either, so not necessarily a sign of helplessness...

Irene’s prints would be on record.

Irene was cleared and so they would be destroyed.

Besides why would Irene rob her own business.

She wasn't cleared, she was found guilty of assaulting Tommy and received a good behaviour bond.

Even if she had been cleared, she would have had to make an application to have them removed, it's not automatic.

Plenty of people have been known to rob their own businesses.

If Bella means what she says good for her.  Different from having a really, really bad hangover where you swear never again, she did nearly die and there are some people who alcohol has that effect on.  Typical Dean, then Willow finding out her treasured bracelet hadn't been bought by him for her 18th but stolen.  They were nice scenes on the beach with the three of them just having a laugh.

Maggie is being completely over the top with her reactions, fair enough she's giving Ben a taste of his own medicine by not wanting to listen to him, but the rest of it is totally unnecessary.  She's accusing Ben - who is innocent - of doing something she was guilty of so pot, kettle, black Mags.  If she is moving to Italy no need to pack up Ben's things. Could she just up sticks like that and decamp to Italy?  Quitting her job with no notice, nowhere to go when she gets there, no plan in place, what about money,  work visa.  Not a short trip away like us in the UK.  Ben does seem to have decided to do something, leaping in front of her car for starters.  Of course Ziggy is upset but it is her mum's decision so has to respect that no matter how mad it seems.

E all know you like fussing around people, but no, no and no Marilyn you do not do that. I didn't blame John at all for losing his temper.  You ask someone if you can help, you don't just jump in and start cutting up their food for them, doesn't matter who they are, husband, wife, child or parent. She would have hated it if John had done that to her. I think her arm was immobilised when she got burnt but I don't remember anyone who shouldn't doing it to her.  I didn't blame John one bit for losing his temper.  Anyway, Tori said the specialist had OK'd him having his first solid meal so wouldn't it have been specially prepared for someone in John's position and been in bite sized pieces?   He can use his left arm/hand so could just use the fork to pick up the meat/veg.  He did seem relieved to be talking to Ben and sympathise with him and be able to talk about something other than his own problems.  I have said it before, he is paralysed on one side and  he has got a long way to go but he has got his speech so can make himself understood about his needs and how he feels. Maybe Marilyn should ban herself from visiting.

Good to see Alf has realised how  much work John does.  We didn't see or hear Marilyn's answer to Alf's very important question.

It is possible to blow up a balloon single handed, but there are people, like you Red,  who can't. Like some folk can whistle and others can't.

Yes, I know. I just said it would have been nice to get a mention.

Insurance scam? Tax dodge? Not wanting to share the profits? Anyway, the point is they need her prints to eliminate anyone with legitimate access to the till.

Okay, I thought Bella was talking about the time she got drunk at Ryder's party and ended up passing out on his bed. Have I forgotten something?

Alf's episode count this week:Five! Marilyn was in four, although she wasn't credited on Tuesday and neither was Martha, so I'm guessing the opening scene was moved from Monday's episode. (Actually, the credits have been a bit of a mess this week, with only Tuesday and Friday getting the proper cast, writer and in one case director credits. They aired right in Oz so I'm wondering if the international credits were added in a rush because of Covid and mistakes were made.Coronation Street aired several episodes with inaccurate cast lists for similar reasons.)

That was nice of Tori to use her day off to help out John and Marilyn, shame she had to miss out on time with Grace in order to do it.And good news for John being able to go home, provided Marilyn knows where the line is.Jasmine's behaviour is becoming more and more out there to the point that I'm wondering if she actually sees herself as Grace's mother: I don't mean she thinks she gave birth to her or anything but maybe she thinks the role is hers.Calling Tori "Tori" while talking to Grace and seemingly referring to Grace as hers when they're alone seem like hints in that direction. It's like she's moved from a phantom pregnancy to a phantom motherhood.Justin handled it reasonably well.Good that Leah's back at work so soon.

Maggie really wasn't in the mood to listen to anyone.I wonder if once she stops and thinks this might give her some insight into Ben's behaviour and why he couldn't just shrug off her being with Marco when they were separated.Anyway, Ben makes a grand gesture and fortunately Maggie's emergency stop is good but seems like an uphill struggle.
