2019 Season - UK Episode Discussion

I’ve just realised that John & Marilyn are basically the McPhees of the present day aren’t they, basically an extension of the Morgan family (like Floss & Nev were with the Fletchers) but are really just a local couple whose kids are grown up and living out of home.

She seemed genuine when I saw the preview yesterday but I just wasn't convinced Jade was telling the truth when she told Ryder why she stole money from Salt (Does she even have a younger sister?).  She's quite a selfish and manipulative person.  Her main way of dealing with Ryder is to offer sex to keep him sweet (Although she did kiss him on the mouth today).  And she obviously isn't the least bit sorry about what she did as she stole money again.  So not only has Ryder paid the $50 she took but it seems as though he's going to use his earnings to cover her rent.  Given that they aren't actually in a relationship and all they seem to be doing is sleeping with each other, it's bordering on prostitution.  I'm assuming Ryder's going to be forced to make a decision quite soon.  I'm still hoping that Jade will change but given how she threw him out the caravan yesterday, spoke to him earlier on in the episode, it doesn't look as though she thinks much of him as a person.

Yes. Similarities are there

Nev and Palmer served in the Military

Floss and Maz are into the whole Tarot thing

I could see all sides on the situation with Tori.I guess Jasmine was right for speaking out if she had valid concerns, although a small part thinks it was mostly scaremongering: There probably were risks in moving Tori, but there's risks whatever they do, and the move was suggested by Alex, supported by Mason and signed off on by the specialists in the city, so it wasn't coming from Justin. Robbo does of course care about Tori and not just as Grace's mother, so I can understand him not wanting Justin to make things worse, but at the end of the day it's not his call. Justin, as I said yesterday, seems to be pinning all his hope on this move as a magical solution, but there's no logical reason to assume that Northern Districts will have more luck bringing Tori round than the city hospital did.

Ryder is definitely thinking with a part of his anatomy other than his head.He assumes that Jade's a good person who must have a valid reason for stealing, while Martha meant well but was possibly a bit too influenced by her own wrong decisions in advising him to give her another chance to explain.(He might have been better off listening to Alf.)The possibility that Jade is stealing because she's greedy and wants more money hasn't really occurred to him, but it seems like a quite likely answer.

I'm of the same opinion regarding Jade - I think she did briefly mention a mother and a sister when we first met her - it seemed a very convenient tale to spin.  She went from calling Ryder a child when he was pressing her to tell him why she did it and suggesting she own up - go that honesty from Alf - to saying he was an all round good guy for offering to cover her rent money.  It certainly seems she's using his lust/infatuation with her to bend him to her will.  Just as well, I think, he confided in Martha who didn't throw a wobbly when he told her what was bothering him, I think Alf may have been of the same opinion but a bit more gruff about it. She didn't get judgemental like Roo would have and to be fair Jade did deserve a second chance to explain herself until he and we know the truth. Though as we saw she blew it again, wonder how she will explain this one away?

How many days has it been since Robbo and Justin's last display of pushing and shoving each other?:D  Justine may not be a neuro surgeon but she is a nurse and was voicing genuine concerns and Robbo was right in bringing them up with Justin who is very blinkered in his thinking.   The specialists in the city wouldn't dream of moving her if there was any big risk in moving her.  Even Mason said there could  some risk but by taking the transfer slowly will minimise them as much as possible.  Cruel but true comment from Justin Robbo may be Grace's mother but no relation or even next of kin  to Tori so has no say in what happens treatment wise to her. It did make me wonder what Jasmine is to Grace is she her step mother?

Yes, as she married Robbo but has no formal parental rights as far as we know.

Alf's episode count this week:Three. Tori managed two for the first time in a while, but was comatose for most of them and had no dialogue. Mackenzie was only in one and Roo didn't appear at all.

The difference between Justin and Mason's attitude towards Robbo was underlined in that early gym scene: Mason is blunt, but then immediately pulls it back so as not to exacerbate the situation. We also see their different attitudes to Tori: Justin's proceeding with blind faith that everything will be all right, while Mason knows exactly what everything means and is scared by it.Robbo proves himself by bringing Grace along to the hospital, it's a nice moment when he suddenly realises she could be sensing there's something going on with Tori. So, it seems Justin was right to have faith after all: By the end, Tori's lights are on, even if it's not entirely clear if anyone's at home.(Mind you, we immediately get a promo showing Tori basically lucid, which takes away some of the tension!)

Nice use of John and Marilyn's wedding anniversary.(I would of course be remiss not to point out that they married in October and these episodes were shown in November, although that's reasonably close compared to some things!)Martha was a bit tactless with that comment, although Alf could have handled it better. I would have thought Martha would have known about the community spirit from when she first lived there (trying to work out the chronology of Alf's pre-show history is guaranteed to produce a headache, but Martha must have been living there for the fifteen or so years they were married), but at least she's embracing it now. And Leah gets a mysterious phone call...

It is annoying when the sodding promos give the game away! Example, Charlie shooting Hammer dead a good while ago.

The research team kind ofpeed  the bed when it came to writing this whole Martha thing, I've warmed to her buuuut it  ultimately still seems disjointed.

Without giving too much away, it's like they took some of Bianca's old scripts and made a few tweaks for Tori based on the promo...

Where was Roo at the impromptu anniversary meal?   Ryder was with Jade I think Martha said.

Typical of Marilyn to postpone her and John's plans as it didn't feel right to her to be celebrating when things were so up in the  air with Tori.

Very bad slip by Martha, Tori had no control in 'leaving' Grace  whereas Martha did and Roo was a lot older than Grace.  The community that would have  been there when she left are no more but I guess even of the people change the spirit doesn't.

Justin does seem to keep forgetting the fact Mason is also Tori's brother  so he is allowed to voice his feelings and concerns. He certainly voiced them to Jasmine about how, if Tori wakes up, which at least he is wiling to admit may not happen, what will she be like, will she know who she is, who they are, be able to move, speak?  Jasmine in her turn was very encouraging without giving false hope, she may only be a nurse but even the experts can't say until Tori awakes and every stroke victim is different.  I did find the fact Justin kept shouting at Tori annoying, the first thing I'd do when I woke was to snack him one.    Alex was very good explaining  what they, the medical team, were hoping  would happen, what the machine was telling them was happening  to Tori.

After a bit of nudging from folks Robbo takes Grace in to see Tori, natch she was picking up on Robbo and Jasmine's tension.  Justin was off at first as Robbo pitched up without checking with him first but seems Grace's cries did something Justin's nagging  couldn't and Tori opened her eyes.  That bloody trailer did give the game away, couldn't TPTB have picked something else?  Btw would Tori have really have come round that quick, be able to speak and know who people were?

Yes, we are definitely coming up to the Australia finale with that mysterious phone call Leah took and her dashing off and again as seen in the trailer she has dropped off the radar.  Has to be something really urgent for her to suddenly leave Justin.

Jade is thieving again and ends up getting nicked.

Did anyone see Leah leave the house after the dinner party or did she manage to slip by everyone that was unclear
