Episode 12

On Tuesday morning, Imogen heads to Harris Scarfe at Westfield Marion which happens to be where she works.

*One of Imogen's workmates waves at her*

Caitlin: Hey Imogen! Long time no see.

Imogen: I've been really busy, Caitlin. How are you?

Caitlin: I'm good. How was your trip to Summer Bay?

Imogen: Don't go there. My sister is such a prissy cow!

Caitlin: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. *looks sorry*

Imogen: Don't be. I told Roxy that I never wanted to see her again. Serves her right. Say, is Sue in? I need to tell her something.

Caitlin: Yeah, I'll go get her for you.

*A few seconds later, Imogen's boss arrives*

Sue: What is it, Imogen?

Imogen: I'm afraid I can't work here anymore.

*Sue looks shocked*

Sue: But you've only been working here for six months.

Imogen: As a casual.

Sue: What do you plan on doing?

Imogen: I'm planning on looking for another job or doing a course at TAFE SA.

Sue: I see. Well, good luck. *extends her hand*

*Imogen shakes it*

Meanwhile, Christina is at Rundle Mall doing some shopping when she happens to see Krista, Whitney, Sonya and Jen at Sumo Salad.

*Sonya sees Christina and glares at her*

Sonya: Well, if it isn't Imogen's new neighbour.

Christina: Hey ladies.

Jen: Well, aren't we friendly this morning. *looks unimpressed*

Christina: Look, I'm actually glad I ran into you lot. I have something I need to say.

Whitney: An apology for your behaviour last night?

Christina: Well...yeah.

Krista: Apology accepted, Christina.

Whitney: Same here.

*Sonya and Jen look at each other before facing Christina*

Sonya: I suppose I could be friends with you.

Jen: That's right.

Christina: That's great. I knew Imogen's talk worked wonders. *smiles*

Krista: Imogen is very assertive when she wants to be.

Christina: True. Well, I better be off. *goes to leave*

Whitney: Wait!

*Christina stops and faces the girls*

Christina: Yeah?

Whitney: Come join us.

Christina: You sure?

Sonya: Of course. *smiles*

Christina: Then, I will.

*Christina sits with the girls*

That afternoon, Imogen is still at Westfield Marion. She is sitting in the food court when she sees Madison waving at her.

Madison: Imogen! *walks over to Imogen and hugs her*

Imogen: Hey Madison! How are you?

Madison: I'm good. I miss you so much.

Imogen: I miss you too. How was school today?

Madison: It was okay. Sis, I have a problem.

Imogen: What's that?

Madison: A boy at school likes me.

Imogen: Why is that a problem? Do you not like this boy or something?

Madison: I do. It's just that he's sexually active.

Imogen: Ah, I see. It's because you haven't had it yet, right?

Madison: Right?

Imogen: I'm surprised Mum and Dad let you see me.

Madison: They want you to come over for dinner on Friday night.

Imogen: It's not going to happen.

Madison: Please? Please come over for my sake.

Imogen: All right. But if they start, I'm out.

Madison: Thanks, Imogen.

Imogen: So, what's that boy's name?

Madison: Kenny.

Imogen: Was he the one that I threatened to beat up for teasing you?

Madison: No, that was James Henry.

Imogen: That's right. *laughs*

Madison: So, what do you want to do now?

Imogen: Have a look at the stores.

Madison: Good idea.

*they leave the food court*

(At 6:20pm, Imogen brings Madison home.)

Madison: I had a great day with you, sis.

Imogen: I did too.

*Madison opens the door to find Pauline standing in the hallway looking angry*

Pauline: Where were you, Maddie? I was worried sick!

Madison: I told you I was seeing Imogen.

Pauline: I thought you would be home earlier than that. It's twenty past six!

*Imogen rolls her eyes*

Imogen: I'm so glad I moved out!

Pauline: Don't answer back to me, Imogen! *to Madison* You are grounded for the rest of the week. That means you are to come straight home from school.

Madison: I'm sorry!

Pauline: It's a bit late for that, don't you think?

Madison: But you can't ground me! The school social is on tomorrow night!

Pauline: You're not going because you're grounded for the rest of the week.

Madison: That's not fair!

Pauline: You know the rules, Maddie. Now, go to your room.

*Madison looks at Imogen*

Pauline: Don't look at your sister! GO NOW!

*Madison runs into her room*

Imogen: Was that called for?!

Pauline: You left me no choice, Imogen! I don't want her behaving like you!

*Imogen lets fly!*

Imogen: YOU COLD-HEARTED BITCH! YOU AND DAD DON'T WANT MADISON TO SPEND TIME WITH ME!

Pauline: Don't be silly. Your father and I would do no such thing.

Imogen: GROUNDING MADISON FOR BEING LATE IS A BIT OVER THE TOP! YOU DID THAT OUT OF SPITE!

Pauline: SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP, IMOGEN MILLER! YOU KNOW SOMETIMES I WONDER WHY WE ADOPTED YOU?!

*Imogen feels her eyes well up with hurt and sadness, but she fights them back long enough to yell back*

Imogen: Go to hell!

*Pauline realises what she said and starts to regret it*

Pauline: Imogen, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it.

*Imogen storms out of the house and slams the front door*

Pauline: Imogen!

*Pauline leans against the wall and starts to cry*

Meanwhile, Imogen is sitting at the bus shelter sobbing.

Imogen: You don't have worry about me anymore, Mum and Dad. I am no longer your daughter.

*Imogen continues to sob*

NEXT TIME

- Regretting her outburst, Pauline's attempt to make peace with Imogen is rejected

Episode 13

When Imogen returns to her flat, she is still in tears.

*Christina comes out of her flat and sees Imogen enter her own flat*

Christina: Hey Imogen.

*Imogen sobs*

Christina: Is everything alright?

Imogen: That bitch can die for all I care!

Christina: Who?

Imogen: Mum!

*Christina hugs Imogen*

Christina: What happened?

Imogen: The bitch grounded Madison for being late. She only did that to spite me! So, when I called her out on it, Mum said the most hurtful thing imaginable.
Christina: What did she say?

Imogen: She said that she sometimes wonders why her and Dad adopted me. I haven't stopped crying since I left. I cried on the bus and everything.

Christina: That sucks, Imogen. *looks sadly at Imogen*

Imogen: Well, they can take their Friday night dinner and shove it!

Christina: Have you ever thought of finding your biological parents?

Imogen: My real parents died in a car crash when I was 4 months old.

Christina: I'm so sorry to hear that.

Imogen: I'd rather have my freedom and let Madison live with me.

Christina: When is she 18?

Imogen: August.

Christina: You can let her live with you then because she'll be an adult.

Imogen: True.

Christina: Did you want me to stay the night?

Imogen: Please.

Christina: Then, I will.

*Imogen and Christina hug*

Meanwhile, Pauline is feeling guilty about what she said to Imogen earlier.

Pauline: I can't believe I said that to her.

Madison: I can.

Pauline: Maddie?

Madison: What you said to Imogen tonight was disgusting! You should be ashamed of yourself, Mum!

David: Madison!

Madison: I'm sorry Dad, but I'm not letting the subject go.

Pauline: I don't need you giving me a hard time as well, Madison. I feel bad enough as it is!

Madison: Well, so you should!

David: Madison, I think you've said enough.

Madison: No, I haven't! You always say to each other that you're going to get Imogen the help she needs and that you'll always love her! The only thing you've done is damage your relationship with her even more!

Pauline: Maddie, please try and understand.

Madison: Understand what? That my parents drove my sister away? I'm sorry, but I don't understand! I don't understand one bit!

*Madison storms off to her room*

Pauline: Oh god! What have I done?! *starts to get teary*

David: Don't blame yourself, love. Madison's just upset about what happened tonight.

Pauline: I've pushed Imogen away.

David: I'm sure she knows you didn't mean it. Why not pay her a visit tomorrow?

Pauline: *sniffing* Good idea.

The next day (Wednesday), Imogen is at her favourite café with her friend Mary from her aerobics class.

Mary: So, how are things going with you? We haven't really sat down and caught up in a while.

Imogen: My life is one big dysfunctional mess, Mary.

Mary: What seems to be the problem?

Imogen: My parents, or should I say my 'adoptive' parents, never gave a damn about me! I've had enough of being blamed for everything! I'm so glad I moved out!

Mary: Where do you live now?

Imogen: I live in a flat on Winifred Street. You should come visit sometime.

Mary: Sure. So, what's going on with your parents?

Imogen: They make me so angry! Not only have they mentally damaged me, but they are also trying to stop me from seeing my younger sister.

Mary: Madison?

Imogen: That's her.

Mary: Oh, I hope things work out for you. *smiles sympathetically at Imogen*

Imogen: I doubt it.

*Pauline enters the café*

Pauline: I'm glad I found you, Imogen. I need to talk to you.

Imogen: *angrily* Leave me alone! *to Mary* Sorry, I have to go.

*Pauline sighs sadly as Imogen storms out*

(Imogen is in a filthy mood when she returns to her flat.)
Christina: Imogen, what's wrong? You're shaking. *looks concerned*

Imogen: I can't believe that bitch had the nerve to try and talk to me after what she said last night! How dare she?!

Christina: Where did you see her?

Imogen: My usual hangout spot. There I was catching up with Mary Peterson and she strolls in there and says "I need to talk to you!". What the hell?!

*The door knocks*

Pauline: *from outside* Imogen?

*Imogen puts her hands over the sides of her head and sighs painfully*

Christina: I'll get the door. You have a lie down.

*Imogen leaves for her bedroom as Christina opens the door*

Christina: What do you want?!

Pauline: Is Imogen home?

Christina: She don't wanna see you!

*Pauline looks shocked*

Pauline: I beg your pardon?

Christina: I said Imogen does not wanna see you!

Pauline: I want to talk to her!

*Imogen storms over towards the door*

Imogen: GET OUT!

Pauline: Imogen, I'm sorry about last night. I didn't mean what I said.

Imogen: I SAID GET OUT! YOU HAVE DONE YOUR DASH WITH ME! *slams the door in Pauline's face*

*Pauline looks devastated*

Episode 14

Later that afternoon, Imogen and Christina meet up with Krista, Whitney, Sonya and Jen at the local café.

Imogen: Hey girls.

Whitney: Hey, Immy.

*Krista looks at Imogen*

Krista: You look dreadful, Imogen. Are you okay?

Imogen: No, I'm not actually.

Jen: What's wrong?

Christina: Her mother showed up!

Sonya: What happened, Imogen?

Imogen: She wanted to apologise for what she said to me. I refuse to accept her apology!

Whitney: Are you sure she wasn't being genuine?

Christina: Honey, I've been around people long enough to know if they are real or fake. Imogen's mother is a fake bitch!

*Krista snorts out a giggle, while the others look shocked*

Imogen: Couldn't have said it better myself. Now, let's de-stress.

Sonya: Good idea.

Christina: So, do any of you girls go on the clubbing scene?

Jen: I'm not really a nightclub person.

Christina: I was going to ask if any of you wanted to come with me and Imogen to the Le Rox Nightclub on Friday night.

Whitney: I suppose so.

Krista: I guess we can try it.

Sonya: I'm in.

Jen: I suppose I'll give it a try. I just hope they play good music.

Christina: Believe me, Jen. They do.

*Imogen and her friends drink their cappuccinos, while Christina drinks her frappe*

When Imogen and Christina return to the block of flats, they continue to talk.

Christina: I was wrong about your friends. They are heaps cool to hang out with.

Imogen: I told you so. *smiles*

Christina: You doing anything tomorrow?

Imogen: I'm going to find a new job.

Christina: Doing what?

Imogen: I'm hoping to apply for a job at Kmart or Intencity.

Christina: Good luck.

Imogen: Thanks. Do you work?

Christina: Yeah, I work part-time at a nail salon.

Imogen: That's awesome.

Christina: Anyway, I better be going. Take care of yourself.

Imogen: I will.

*Imogen hugs Christina before they head to their respective flats*

Imogen: Let's see if Tracey and Alison are on.

*Imogen logs on to 'Chatterbox' and sees that Tracey and Alison are both online*

ImmyM34: Hey girls.

TraceyLuv: Imogen! How are you, beautiful?

ImmyM34: I'm over my mother at the moment. She reckons that she wants to apologise to me for what she said. She's such a liar and I hate her!

AliBabes: Hey Imogen. You don't mean what you said about your mother, do you?

ImmyM34: I know it sounds hateful, but if you had any idea what my parents did to me you would agree with me.

AliBabes: What did they do?

ImmyM34: I'll inbox you both on Facebook. I don't want my private business aired here.

TraceyLuv: Okay.

AliBabes: Okay, hun.

ImmyM34: How are you both?

TraceyLuv: Nothing much. Just chilled at Sabrina's this arvo.

AliBabes: I went to see some friends I know from Hartley High.

ImmyM34: Awesome. I went to aerobics class and caught up with friends at my local café.

AliBabes: Cool!

TraceyLuv: That's great, Imogen.

ImmyM34: I'm glad I made friends with you two. We should meet one day.

AliBabes: I think that's a great idea.

TraceyLuv: I'm looking forward to meeting you, Imogen.

ImmyM34: I'll be on Facebook after dinner. Talk to you then.

TraceyLuv: Bye girl.

AliBabes: Talk to you later, hun.

*Imogen logs out of 'Chatterbox' and goes to cook her dinner*

Imogen: I think chicken will be good tonight.

*Imogen puts a roast chicken in the oven and sighs happily*
