Episode 5

Later that evening, David and Pauline are washing the dishes.

Pauline: Imogen is really starting to concern me each time she yells at us, darling.

David: The way she lashed out at us tonight could've ended in violence.

Pauline: I know. She kept pointing her finger in our faces.

*David sighs*

Pauline: David?

David: Pauline, I have a bad feeling that Imogen has a mental illness.

Pauline: What kind of mental illness?

David: I don't know, but it could be either depression or bipolar disorder.

Pauline: Imogen has so many problems. It breaks my heart that she won't seek professional help.

David: I know, love. We have to arrange an appointment with the psychiatrist. Imogen needs this.

*Madison enters the kitchen*

Madison: Mum? Dad?

*Pauline and David look at Madison*

Pauline: Yes sweetie?

Madison: I'm sorry about this afternoon. I should've let you know where I was going.

David: Apology accepted, Maddie.

Madison: What's my punishment going to be?

Pauline: You are to come straight home from school tomorrow afternoon and clean up your room.

Madison: Fair enough, I suppose.

David: Imogen in her room?

Madison: Yes. She's sound asleep.

David: I was hoping to talk to her about something.

Madison: I think I have a fair idea what you and Mum are talking about. You want Imogen to see a shrink.

Pauline: That's right. Sweetie, we think your sister has a mental illness.

Madison: Are you sure?

David: We're not positively sure, but there's a fifty-fifty chance she does.

*They all look sad*

First thing the next morning, Imogen leaves the house to go and see the real estate agent about finding a place to live.

*Imogen arrives at Century 21*

Receptionist: Good morning.

Imogen: Yes, I'd like to talk with one of your real estate agents.

Receptionist: Liz?

*A middle-aged woman wearing a brown business outfit goes over to the receptionist*

Liz: Yes?

Receptionist: This young woman wants to talk to you.

Liz: Ah, yes. Follow me, um....

Imogen: Imogen.

Liz: Follow me, Imogen.

*Imogen follows Liz to her desk*

Liz: Have a seat, Imogen.

*Imogen sits on a chair*

Liz: What brings you to Century 21?

Imogen: I want to find somewhere to live.

Liz: Are you looking to buy or rent?

Imogen: Rent. I'm looking for a two bedroom flat.

Liz: We have several on the market. Whereabouts are you intending on living?

Imogen: Near the CBD.

Liz: Why don't I take you for an inspection?

Imogen: Sounds great. *smiles*

(Liz takes Imogen to an apartment complex on Winifred Street. They enter an empty unit with one bedroom)

Liz: Were you after a one bedroom unit?

Imogen: I was hoping for a two bedroom in case my little sister ever wanted to stay over.

Liz: Well, you're in luck. Number 7 has two bedrooms.

Imogen: Awesome. Let's check it out.

*Liz takes Imogen to unit number 7. After inspecting the unit for ten minutes, Imogen makes her decision*

Imogen: I'll take it.

Liz: Are you sure?

Imogen: Positive. I'll move in here ASAP.

Liz: Done deal.

*Imogen and Liz shake hands*

When Imogen arrives home that afternoon, she sees her parents in the living room.

Pauline: Imogen, your father and I would like to talk to you.

Imogen: I've got my own place.

David: What?

Imogen: I'll be moving into a flat on Winifred Street.

Pauline: How can you afford a place to live when you don't even work?

Imogen: I do have a job. I've been working at Harris Scarfe for nearly six months.

David: Oh, that's right.

Imogen: Anyway, I'm glad to be out of this house. Madison can stay over as long as she likes.

Pauline: Madison has got her SACE this year. I don't want her schooling disrupted.

Imogen: Whatever. Don't bother on visiting me when I move in. I don't need your help or want it from either of you.

*Imogen walks off*

David: That does it. I'm calling the psychiatrist right now!

Pauline: David, just leave it love.

*David goes over to the phone and dials a number*

David: Yes, hello. I'd like to book an appointment for my daughter. She really needs to talk to someone about her problems and it's pushing me and my wife to the breaking point. *looks sad* Okay, thank you.

*As David hangs up the phone, Pauline puts her arm around him*

NEXT TIME

- Imogen is livid when she finds out that David and Pauline made an appointment for her to see a psychiatrist

Episode 6

Imogen is in her bedroom talking to Whitney on the phone.

Imogen: You want to know what I did today, Whitney? I got my own place.

Whitney: Are you pulling my leg?

Imogen: No, why would I do that to one of my friends?

Whitney: Just teasing you, Immy. *laughs*

*Imogen laughs too*

Whitney: What kind of place did you get?

Imogen: A two bedroom flat. I just hope the rent is cheap.

Whitney: I still live with my parents and don't pay that much board.

Imogen: You're lucky.

*Imogen's bedroom door knocks*

Pauline: Imogen?

Imogen: Listen, I'll call you back. Bye, Whitney. *hangs up the phone* Who is it?

Pauline: It's your mother.

Imogen: What is it? I'm really busy right now!

Pauline: Your father and I want to talk to you.

Imogen: *begrudgingly* Fine.

*Imogen comes out of her room and slams the door behind her*

Pauline: We don't slam doors in this house!

Imogen: Well, I'm not living here much longer so I can do whatever the hell I want!

*Imogen enters the living room*

David: Sit down, Imogen.

*Imogen sits on the couch facing David and Pauline*

Imogen: What?!

David: First off, you can lose the attitude. Secondly, your mother and I are really worried about you.

Imogen: Oh, are you? That's funny actually.

Pauline: Why is it funny?

Imogen: Because my whole life all you ever cared about was Roxy!

David: Are you obsessed with Roxanne? Ever since you came back from visiting her, all you've done is talk negatively about her non-stop!

Imogen: So what? She could do no wrong. She was always perfect. And what was I to you both? Clumsy and useless!

Pauline: That is not true.

Imogen: *sarcastically* I just LOVE how you lie to me!

David: Imogen, that's enough! Now, we have decided that you see a psychiatrist and talk about your problems.

*Imogen is livid!*

Imogen: YOU DID WHAT?!

David: You have an appointment on Monday at 10:30.

Imogen: No, I don't.

Pauline: Yes, you do. Your father and I made the appointment for you.

*Imogen lets fly!*

Imogen: HOW DARE YOU! I DON'T NEED TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST! YOU CAN TELL ROXY TO SHOVE HER IDEAS WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE!

Pauline: Calm down...

Imogen: WHY SHOULD I?! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I HAD TO GO THROUGH GROWING UP! I WAS ALWAYS BEING RIPPED APART MENTALLY BY MY SO-CALLED PARENTS, ALWAYS BEING BULLIED AT SCHOOL FOR BEING FAT AND ALWAYS BEING TREATED LIKE I WAS NOTHING! WELL, GUESS WHAT?! I'M MOVING OUT ON SUNDAY AND I'M NOT SEEING A PSYCHIATRIST AND THERE IS NOT A DAMN THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!

*Imogen storms off*

David: Not once did we ever mentally abuse her? Not once!

Pauline: David, we're bad parents.

David: No, we're not love.

Pauline: I just can't believe that Imogen was bullied at school for being overweight. We never knew she felt that way.

David: I just hope that she sees the psychiatrist. She needs to see one badly.

*Pauline and David look sad*

(Meanwhile, Imogen has retreated to her bedroom. She is very upset.)

Imogen: *to herself* Oh my god!

*Imogen lays on her down on her bed and cries into her pillow*

NEXT TIME

- Imogen befriends two girls in an online chat room, while at the same time she talks about her problems with Jen

- David and Pauline talk to Roxy about their latest fight with Imogen

Episode 7

That night, Pauline is on the phone to Roxy telling her about Imogen's latest outburst.

Pauline: I just don't know what to do with Imogen anymore. She's become a bitter person.

Roxy: What happened this time?

Pauline: When your father and I told your sister that we made an appointment for her to see a psychiatrist, she just lost it!

Roxy: How bad?
Pauline: Oh, Roxanne. It was ugly. She was screaming at us and accusing us of mentally abusing her.

Roxy: Oh no.

Pauline: Not only that, but we also found out that she was bullied in high school because of her weight. I just feel so bad. If she told us then, we could've helped her.

Roxy: Where is she now?

Pauline: She has been crying in her room all afternoon.

Roxy: I'm starting to believe that you and Dad may be right about Imogen having a mental illness.

Pauline: It just breaks my heart. *starts to cry*

Roxy: Mum, don't cry. You and Dad will get through this.

*David walks in and sees Pauline in tears*

David: Love, who's on the phone?

Pauline: Roxanne.

David: Here, love. You have a good cry while I talk to Roxy.

Pauline: Okay. *sniffs before leaving*

David: Hello sweetheart.

Roxy: Hi Dad.

David: I suppose your mother told you about Imogen.

Roxy: Yes. It's quite sad actually. The poor girl has so many problems.

David: We're trying to help her, but she keeps rejecting us at every turn.

Roxy: I tried giving Imogen advice the night she left here, but she just gave me a dirty look and said that she never wanted to see me again.

David: You know she doesn't mean it.

Roxy: I think she does.

David: Don't think that way. She needs help.

Roxy: I know.

The next day is Saturday. Imogen wakes up at 9:30am before going on her computer.

Imogen: What shall I do now?

*Imogen goes into a website called "Chatterbox", an online chat room. After a few minutes, she creates an account and joins in a discussion.*

ImmyM34: Hi. I'm new to this, so feel free to chat with me.

TraceyLuv (Tracey Turner): Hello, I'm Tracey.

AliBabes (Alison Patterson): And I'm Alison. What is your name?

ImmyM34: Imogen Miller.

AliBabes: How old are you and where do you live?

ImmyM34: I will be 21 in September and I live in Adelaide.

TraceyLuv: I'll be 19 in July.

AliBabes: And I'll be 23 in October.

ImmyM34: Where do you girls live?

AliBabes: I live in Sydney.

TraceyLuv: I live in Wollongong.

ImmyM34: Awesome! Tracey, have you met Alison in person?

TraceyLuv: Yeah, we have.

ImmyM34: Oh, okay.

AliBabes: Do you have Facebook, Imogen?

ImmyM34: I sure do.

AliBabes: I'll add you.

ImmyM34: Okay.

TraceyLuv: Add me too, Imogen.

ImmyM34: Sure thing, Tracey.

*Suddenly, Imogen's mobile goes off. She closes the page before answering it*

Imogen: Hello?

Jen: Hey Imogen.

Imogen: Oh, hey Jen. How are you?

Jen: I'm good. Listen, are you doing anything today?

Imogen: No.

Jen: Did you want to go and have coffee?

Imogen: I would like that. I need to talk with someone anyway.

Jen: Is everything okay?

Imogen: I'll explain when I see you. What time shall we meet?

Jen: Is 11 o'clock okay?

Imogen: That's fine by me. See you then.

Jen: Okay. Bye.

*Imogen hangs up*

Imogen: Okay. Time to get ready.

(Later that morning, Imogen arrives at the café in the CBD and meets up with Jen.)

Jen: Hey beautiful. It's great to see you.

Imogen: Same here, Jen. *gives Jen a hug*

Jen: So, what's been going on?

Imogen: Do you want the good news or the bad news?

Jen: Tell me the good news first.

Imogen: The good news is that I found my own place.

Jen: That's awesome! Where is it at?

Imogen: It's a two bedroom flat in Winifred Street.

Jen: Awesome.

Imogen: The bad news is that my parents want me to see a psychiatrist.

Jen: What's so bad about that?

Imogen: The fact that they made an appointment behind my back and not listened to me say that I don't need to see one caused me to lose my cool last night. I'm just so over their pathetic attempt at trying to be nice to me. They never cared about me.

Jen: Imogen, you do need to talk to someone about your problems.

Imogen: I do and that's with you. I consider you, Whitney, Krista and Sonya to be my close friends. I can tell you ladies everything.

Jen: What about Madison?

Imogen: I tell her everything too, but she's my little sister. That's different.

Jen: Are you sure you're okay?

Imogen: Yes, now that I'm having coffee with you.

*Jen smiles*

Jen: I'm glad to hear it.

Imogen: In other news, I made two new friends today on Chatterbox.

Jen: Chatterbox? You mean that online chat room site?

Imogen: Yes. I finally made an account and spoke to these two lovely ladies from New South Wales.

Jen: What are their names?

Imogen: Alison Patterson and Tracey Turner.

Jen: Cool! Maybe I should join Chatterbox.

Imogen: You should. Krista already has it.

Jen: Say, I saw Tennille Chambers yesterday.

Imogen: That mole! What did SHE want?!

Jen: Nothing. I just seen her come out of Grace Bros as I was heading down the escalator at Westfield Marion.

Imogen: That little bitch used to give me hell in high school, even after losing all that weight!

Jen: It looked like she gained a few since we last seen her in high school.

*Imogen cracks up laughing*

Imogen: Karma bit her on the backside.

Jen: I'll say.

*Imogen and Jen continue to laugh*

When Imogen returns home that afternoon, she sees that her parents aren't home.

Imogen: Madison?

Madison: Yeah?

Imogen: I'm back.

*Madison comes out of her bedroom and hugs Imogen*
Madison: You scared me last night.

Imogen: I'm sorry. That's why I'm moving into my own place. I don't want to deal with Mum and Dad anymore.

Madison: What about me?

Imogen: I have no issues with you. You are my little sister and always will be. If you ever want to stay over at my new place, you're more than welcome to.

Madison: Thank you, Imogen. You're the best sister ever.

*Imogen gets teary as she hugs Madison*

Imogen: And you're the best little sister in the whole world.

NEXT TIME

- Imogen moves into her new flat, while she makes a decision about seeing the psychiatrist.
