March 26, 1985

The next day was Tuesday and Anahera was having a stressful day at school. Grace had tried to make peace with her again in English, but Anahera just brushed her off. She was also worried about Jordan, who was currently in the Northern Districts Hospital recovering from his injuries. So to put it bluntly, Anahera was in a bad mood.

*Leo Taylor approaches her during lunch break*

Leo: Hey.

Anahera: *depressingly* Hi. You're Leo, right?

Leo: That's me. *smiles*

Anahera: Nice to meet you man. *shakes Leo's hand*

Leo: Sorry about your brother. I hope he gets better.

Anahera: How did you...

Leo: Michael told me. He was worried about you.

Anahera: I know.

Leo: If you ever want anything or need a shoulder to cry on, I'm always here.

Anahera: Thanks for the offer.

Leo: I'll see you around Anahera. *shakes Anahera's hand again*

Anahera: Later man.

*Leo walks off just as Shirley walks over to Anahera*

Shirley: What did Leo want?

Anahera: He wanted to see if I was okay. Isn't that sweet?

Shirley: It sure is.

*Grace approaches the girls*

Grace: Hey Blondie! You're a bloody loser!

Anahera: JUST F*** OFF GRACE!!!!

Grace: Not very friendly Brown! I tried to make peace with you, but it turns out you are nothing but a complete snob! Your family must be ASHAMED of you.

*Anahera loses it*

Anahera: YOU...BITCH!!! *grabs Grace by the throat and starts choking her*

Shirley: Bestie! *tries to pull Anahera back*

*Anahera punches Grace in the face multiple times and kicks her before two teachers separate them*

Teacher 1: ALL RIGHT GIRLS!!! THAT'S ENOUGH!!!

Teacher 2: TO MR WHITE'S OFFICE MISS BROWN!!!

*Anahera glares at the teacher and storms off*

In Mr White's office, he is lecturing Anahera for her attack on Grace.
Mr White: I understand that you are going through a stressful time Anahera, but that doesn't excuse your behaviour towards Grace.

Anahera: She made fun of Shirley and made a sarcastic remark about my family!

Mr White: Regardless, your violent outburst was totally uncalled for. I'm going to send you home for the rest of the day.

Anahera: That's fine. Just as long as I'm with my brother at the hospital, I'm happy.

Mr White: Off you go then.

*Anahera walks out of the office. As she does, Shirley approaches her*

Shirley: So, what happened?

Anahera: I'm going home. Any news on the bitch?

Shirley: Broken nose and a busted lip. You did a pretty good job on her.

Anahera: I'll see you later bestie. *gives Shirley a hug* Say goodbye to Michael for me.

Shirley: I will bestie. Bye.

*Anahera leaves*

Later that afternoon, Anahera visits Jordan in the hospital. She goes with Mrs Stroud from next door because Troy had some business to attend to.

*Anahera looks at Jordan who is laying motionless in his hospital bed*

Mrs Stroud: What happened to him Anahera?

Anahera: Long story.

Mrs Stroud: Tell me.

*Anahera explains everything to Mrs Stroud*

Mrs Stroud: That's awful.

Anahera: I know. I didn't even talk to Mum this morning.

Mrs Stroud: Don't blame you love. I hate what she does to you kids.

Anahera: You should've called welfare.

Mrs Stroud: It was none of my business love.

*Anahera looks at Jordan sadly*

Anahera: Just wish he'd wake up.

Mrs Stroud: I'm sure he will.

*Troy walks in*

Troy: Hello girl. *gives Anahera a kiss on the cheek*

Anahera: Hi Dad.

Troy: I got a call from your principal. Are you okay?

Anahera: I'll be fine. Thanks for asking Dad.

Troy: *to Mrs Stroud* Thanks for going with her Cynthia. I greatly appreciate it.

Mrs Stroud: No worries Troy.

Troy: That reminds me. Mum's gone.

Anahera: Gone?!? Gone where?

Troy: I think she's done a runner.

*Anahera looks p***ed off*

On Thursday at school, Grace tries once again to make peace with Anahera.

Grace: Anahera...

Anahera: Leave me alone, Grace!

Grace: I just want to make peace.

Anahera: Have you not got it through your thick skull that I want NOTHING to do with you?!?

Grace: Please...

*Shirley goes over to Anahera and Grace*

Shirley: *to Anahera* Is she bothering you bestie?

Anahera: Yes. I've made it clear to Grace that I want nothing to do with her, but she just won't listen to me.

Shirley: MOVE ALONG HEKE!!!!

Grace: But I just wanted to...

Shirley: I DON'T CARE IF YOU WANT THE LATEST DENIECE WILLIAMS CD, YOU LEAVE MY BESTIE ALONE!!!!

*A defeated Grace walks off*

Anahera: Thanks bestie.

Shirley: Anytime. *puts her arm around Anahera*

Anahera: Let's go find Michael and Leo.

Shirley: Sure. That sounds great. *smiles*

*Anahera smiles back*

After school, Anahera visits Jordan in the hospital and is very happy to see him awake.

Anahera: Little bro! You're finally awake! *hugs Jordan*

Jordan: Hi Ana. I've missed you.

Anahera: I've missed you too. How's your head?

Jordan: Still sore.

Doctor: He's very lucky not to have fractured his skull.

Anahera: Well, the most important thing is that he's recovering well.

Doctor: That's true. *to Jordan* I'll be back to check up on you later.

Jordan: Okay. *smiles*

Anahera: I just can't wait for you to return home.

Jordan: I don't want to go back home.

Anahera: What do you mean?

Jordan: I don't want to go back with Mum.

Anahera: She's done a runner.

Jordan: Really?

Anahera: It's just me and Dad now. That is until the bitch comes back.

Jordan: Oh.

Anahera: So, when are you coming back home?

Jordan: Probably next week.

Anahera: I love you little bro.

Jordan: I love you too big sis.

*they hug*

Jordan: Can you stay with me until visiting hours are over?

Anahera: That what I intend on doing. *strokes Jordan's hair*

Jordan: Where's Dad?

Anahera: He's at the hospital cafe. He needed something to eat.

Jordan: Okay. But I want to make it clear that if Mum does come back, I don't want to be at home anymore. *looks scared*

Anahera: I promise I won't let her hurt you.

Jordan: Really?

Anahera: Of course. Now come here.

*Jordan hugs Anahera*

March 29, 1985

The next day (Friday), it's the last day of Term 1. Anahera made the important decision of going to school that day. Her father asked her if she wanted the day off to spend time with Jordan, but she decided she would go to school first and spend time with Jordan after it was over.

*Anahera, Shirley and Jordan are sitting next to each other in roll call*

Anahera: I'm surprised the bitch hasn't arrived yet.

Shirley: Knowing her, she'll probably come late.

Michael: I wouldn't worry about her girls. She's just a waste of space.

Anahera: Couldn't have said it better. *smiles*

*Grace walks into the classroom*

Anahera: *under her breath* Bitch.

Shirley: Don't let her get to you bestie.

Anahera: I won't.

*Grace glares at Shirley*

Shirley: Problem Gracie?

Grace: Yes there is. My problem is YOU!

Anahera: Ignore her. She just wants to start a fight.

Grace: Whatever. I'm out of here! What was the point of coming to school anyway?!? *grabs her bag and leaves the room angrily*

Anahera: Well, that didn't last long.

Michael: I know.

Later that morning, Grace is waiting for a bus to take her to her local youth centre.

Grace: Come on bus. I don't want to wait all day for you.

*At that moment, Jake's car pulls over and he gets out of the car*

Jake: GET IN THE CAR NOW, GRACE HEKE!!!

Grace: Dad, what are you doing here?

Jake: I got a call from your roll call teacher saying that you bloody walked out of class! You want to be defiant and break the rules?!?

Grace: NO! I just wanted to go to the youth centre and see Toot.

Jake: YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE BECAUSE YOU'RE GROUNDED!!! NOW GET IN THE CAR!!!

Grace: NO!!! I DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO YOU!!!

*Jake punches Grace in the face*

Jake: I SAID GET IN THE CAR!!!!

Grace: *crying* I HATE YOU!!!
*Jake grabs Grace by the hair and drags her into the car*

Jake: YOU'LL DO AS YOU'RE BLOODY TOLD!!!

*Jake gets into the car and speeds off*

After school, Anahera is walking home with Shirley and Michael.

Anahera: I don't know what I'm going to do when you go to Surfers Paradise bestie.

Shirley: I'll be coming back. Don't worry.

Anahera: And you Michael.

Michael: I'll still be around and so will Leo. *smiles*

Anahera: I sure hope so. *smiles back*

*They approach Michael's street*

Michael: Well, I'll see you girls soon. *hugs both Anahera and Shirley*

Anahera/Shirley: Bye Michael.

*Michael walks off*

Shirley: It's gonna suck not hanging out with you.

Anahera: I know right?

Shirley: Send my love to Jordan for me.

Anahera: I will bestie. See you when you get back. *hugs Shirley*

Shirley: Bye bestie. *walks away*

*Anahera approaches Mrs Stroud's brown Toyota Corolla liftback*

Mrs Stroud: Ready to go?

Anahera: Yes I am. *smiles*
Mrs Stroud: Then hop in.

*Anahera gets into the car and Mrs Stroud drives her to the hospital*

April 3, 1985

The following Wednesday, Anahera is tidying the living room as she waits for Jordan to arrive home from hospital.

*Anahera puts away the vaccum cleaner just as Troy and Jordan arrive home*

Anahera: Jordie!

Jordan: Ana! *races over to Anahera and hugs her*

Anahera: I'm so glad that you're home.

Jordan: I have to rest up though. *looks sad*

Anahera: *trying to remain a positive nature* I'm sure you'll be fine.

Jordan: Thanks sis.

*Moana walks through the door*

Moana: Look who's home!

*Jordan cowers behind Anahera*

Troy: What are you doing here?

Moana: I live here, Troy! *to Jordan* How are you feeling, Jordan? Better?

*Jordan races off into his room and closes the door*

Moana: What was that about?

Troy: Anahera, keep your brother company. I want to talk to your pathetic excuse of a mother!

Moana: I'm sorry? WHAT?!?

*Anahera goes into Jordan's room*

Anahera: It's okay little bro. Mum's just a cow.

Jordan: I don't want her here. I don't!

Anahera: I don't either. *pulls Jordan into a hug*

(From the living room, Troy and Moana are getting into a full-blown argument)

Troy: NOT ONCE MOANA! NOT ONCE DID YOU VISIT JORDAN AND SEE IF HE WAS OKAY!

Moana: I WAS ASHAMED!!!

Troy: MORE LIKE YOU FLED TO YOUR MOTHER'S HOUSE IN BRISBANE!!!

Moana: SO WHAT?!? I'M ENTITLED TO SEE MY MOTHER, UNLIKE YOU!

Troy: MY MUM DIED TWO YEARS AGO AND I SAW HER EVERY SECOND WEEK!

Moana: BULL****!!! THE ONLY REASON YOUR MOTHER DIED WAS BECAUSE SHE WAS A SMOKER!!!

Troy: HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER LIKE THAT!!! YOU NEVER LIKED HER AT ALL DID YOU?

Moana: NO, I THOUGHT SHE WAS A DIRTY W****!!!

Troy: GET OUT!!!

Moana: NO! THIS IS MY HOUSE, I PAY THE BILLS! IF THERE'S ANYONE THAT SHOULD LEAVE, IT'S YOU!!!

Troy: FINE! I'LL LEAVE!

*Anahera and Jordan both start crying as the front door slams*

April 4, 1985

The next day (Thursday), Moana is on the phone to the Yabbie Creek Police.

Moana: Oh yes is Sergeant Mullins there please? Thank you. Hi, it's Moana Brown here. Listen, I was wondering if I could report a domestic dispute? My husband beat me up again. *pretends to cry over the phone* I'd like to have an AVO out on him. I just don't know what to do anymore. You will? Thanks Sergeant Mullins. Okay. Bye. *hangs up the phone as Anahera walks out of her bedroom*

Anahera: Who was that?

Moana: *lying* Just Mrs Stroud sticking her beak where it isn't wanted.

Anahera: Oh okay. I'm going to the corner shop.

Moana: WHAT ABOUT YOUR BROTHER?!?

Anahera: I'M TAKING HIM WITH ME!!!

Moana: DON'T SPEAK TO ME IN THAT TONE!!!

*Anahera rolls her eyes*

Anahera: Jordan! You ready?

Jordan: Coming Ana.

*Anahera and Jordan leave to go to the corner store*

When Anahera and Jordan arrive back from the corner store, they see two police officers handcuffing Troy.

Troy: But I didn't even hurt her!

Police Officer 1: Then why are there bruises on her?!?

Troy: She deliberately set me up!

Police Officer 2: Just get in the van!

*The officers drag Troy into the paddy wagon as Anahera and Jordan race over*

Anahera: WHERE ARE YOU TAKING MY DAD?!?

Police Officer 2: He's been charged with assault. We're taking him to the station.

*Moana smirks from inside as the paddy wagon drives off*

Anahera: *sobbing* This is so unfair.

Jordan: I want Dad back.

Moana: INSIDE THE HOUSE!!!

*Jordan begrudgingly heads inside, but Anahera remains defiant*

Moana: Your father is not welcome in this house anymore, Anahera! So, get over it!

Anahera: NO, I WON'T YOU STUPID LYING BITCH!!!

Moana: YOU'RE GETTING A HIDING! *storms out of the house and chases after Anahera*

*Anahera trips over a rock and Moana beats her up*

Anahera: STOP IT!!!

Moana: THIS WILL TEACH YOU NOT TO SWEAR AT ME!!! *punches Anahera all over*

*Anahera eventually runs away*

Moana: YOU GET BACK HERE!!!!

(At Michael's house, he is out on the front porch laying on the wicker sofa when he sees Anahera.)

Michael: Anahera? Oh my god, what's happened to you?

Anahera: Mum beat me up and Dad's been framed for something he didn't do. *wails*

Michael: Come here.

*Michael hugs Anahera, who is still crying*
