Episode 12

Pippa is in the living room being comforted by Ian.

Pippa: What sort of foster mother am I?

Ian: Now, you can't blame yourself for Tiffany's behaviour. She was a wild child the first day she arrived.

Pippa: I know, but I still feel guilty.

Ian: You have nothing to be guilty about.

Pippa: But I do. I tried to help that girl like I do to all the other kids I've fostered over the years.

Ian: She just threw your help and advice straight in your face, Pip. It’s not your fault. You are a good foster mum. You can’t beat yourself up over some insolent little brat like Tiffany! She’s not worth it.

Pippa: You think so?

Ian: I KNOW so. *smiles*

*Pippa kisses Ian*

Pippa: I love you, Ian.

Ian: I love you too.

(Meanwhile, Ursula is in Stephanie’s bedroom reading Girlfriend magazine while laying on the bed.)

*Stephanie walks in*

Ursula: Hello.

Stephanie: *bitterly* Hi.

Ursula: Can we at least talk?

*Stephanie sighs resignedly*

Stephanie: I’m listening.

Ursula: I didn’t want to lie to you, but I had to protect you from finding out that I’m an alcoholic.

Stephanie: But I found it, didn’t I?

Ursula: Unfortunately yes. *looks sad*

Stephanie: You can fight this. Before you leave, I want you start going to AA.

Ursula: AA?

Stephanie: Alcoholics Anonymous. They hold meetings down at the community centre every Thursday night.

Ursula: I’m going to give it a try. For me and you.

Stephanie: Come here.

*Ursula and Stephanie hug*

Later that afternoon, Matthew and Michelle are having a meal at the Carrington Café.

Michelle: So, how come I haven’t seen you around at school?

Matthew: I’m going to Carrington Ranges High next year. School is out for the year.

Michelle: Ah, right.

Matthew: This is nice.

Michelle: It sure is.

Matthew: Thanks for asking me to hang out with you.

Michelle: It must’ve been pretty boring not making any friends.

Matthew: It sure was.

*Julia and Tanya walk in*

Julia: *in a deep voice* G’day young man.

Tanya: Thought we’d come and say hello to our bestie, Michelle.

Michelle: WHAT are you two doing here?!?

Julia: *in her normal voice* Now, Michelle. Is that anyway to talk to your best friends?

Matthew: We’re in the middle of a date, here.

Tanya: Don’t mind us.

*Tanya and Julia grab chairs and sit at Matthew and Michelle’s table*

Michelle: Girls!

Julia: I think you’re cute, Mattykins.

Matthew: Thanks.

Tanya: Do you play sports?

*Matthew looks uncomfortable the more Julia and Tanya flirt with him*

Michelle: Girls, can you leave us alone? I’ll talk with you both later.

Tanya: But we want to talk to Matthew. *to Matthew* You’re cute.

Matthew: Uh, Michelle? Can we do this another time?

Michelle: Oh no. Matt, please stay.

Julia: Sounds like this one wants to cling onto you, Mattykins. *laughs*

Matthew: I’m heading off. Call me.

Michelle: Matt, wait!

*As soon as Matthew leaves the café, Michelle lets fly.*

Michelle: I HOPE YOU TWO ARE PROUD OF YOURSELVES!!!

Julia: Did our arrival burst your bubble, Michelle?

Tanya: We’re dreadfully sorry.

Michelle: I’D CAN THE SARCASM IF I WERE YOU, TANYA!!!! YOU GUYS ARE MEANT TO BE MY BEST FRIENDS!!!

Julia: We are?

Michelle: No! The two girls sitting at the table are nothing but a pair of jealous bitches!

*Michelle grabs her bag and storms out of the café as Julia and Tanya look shocked at what Michelle called them!*

Episode 13

November 16th, 1998

On Monday afternoon, the Routledge household sit in the living room to watch Denise.
*The opening music to Denise airs*
Pippa: She’s on.
Ian: I can’t wait to see how Tiegan’s interview goes.
Pippa: Knowing Tiegan, I’m sure she’ll do great.
Denise Drysdale: *on TV* First up, I’ll be interviewing the newest host of the hit TV show Gladiators. Please welcome, Tiegan Brook.
*The audience applauds*
Stephanie: Go Tiegan!
Matthew: We love you!
Denise: *on TV* Well, Tiegan. What made you decide to become the co-host of the Seven Network’s highest rating show on Saturday nights?
Tiegan: *on TV* I previously worked as a waitress in a café and I was sick of my job. One day, I happened to read an article in TV Week about Kimberley Joseph leaving Gladiators and that they were going hold auditions to be Mike Hammond’s new co-host. I faced some stiff competition let me tell you.
Denise: *on TV* How did your audition go?
Tiegan: I was pretty nervous. I mean, who would be if you were going up against Kylie Gillies, Susie O’Neill, Kristy Stone and Tania Zaetta?
Denise: This is your second week on the show. What were you like when you ran out on that stage?
Tiegan: *on TV* The atmosphere was intense. The crowd was going wild.
*As Pippa and the others watch the interview, the phone rings*
Pippa: I’ll get that. *picks up the phone* Hello?
Ian: Tiegan’s doing better than I expected.
Stephanie: That’s Tiegan for you. Very assertive and calm.
Matthew: When does she come back, Ian?
Ian: I think she arrives back tomorrow arvo, mate.
*Pippa returns to the living room with a worried look on her face*
Pippa: Ian?
Ian: Is something the matter love?
Pippa: I need to talk to you upstairs.
*Pippa and Ian go upstairs*
Pippa: I just got off the phone with Leanne Martin. She wants me to foster a 12 year-old girl named Cherie Lancaster.
Ian: And?
Pippa: For the first time, I don’t think I’ll take in another foster child.
Ian: Why not?
Pippa: In the wake of Tiffany Rongo’s deception, I hardly think this is a good time to foster another child.
Ian: You’re crazy, Pip. The kids you’ve fostered have turned out great.
Pippa: All except a few.
Ian: Pip…
Pippa: I’m being honest. *smiles*
Ian: Do what you think is best.
*Pippa and Ian hug*

Later that afternoon, Michelle is doing the housework while her parents are at work. She is interrupted by a knock at the door.
Michelle: I wonder who that could be?
*Michelle opens the door to find Julia and Tanya standing there*
Julia: Hi Shelly Belly.
Michelle: What do YOU two want?!?
Tanya: We understand why you avoided us at school today.
Michelle: Oh, do you now?!?
Tanya: Just hear us out.
Michelle: Fine. I’m listening.
Julia: We’re really sorry for ruining your “date” with Matthew. It was inconsiderate and selfish of me and Tanya to do that.
Tanya: That’s right, Michelle. We’re terribly sorry.
Michelle: Whatever. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have housework to finish.
*Michelle slams the door in their faces!*
Julia: Does that mean she’s forgiven us?
Tanya: I don’t think so, Julia. I think we’ve truly blown it this time.
*Julia and Tanya look at each other sadly*

Episode 14

That night, Pippa is getting ready for bed when she sees Ian coming into their bedroom.
Ian: You coming to bed, love?
Pippa: I need to talk to you, Ian. I’ve been doing some thinking about fostering that girl.
Ian: And?
Pippa: And, I’ve decided to foster her.
Ian: I knew you couldn’t turn a child in need away, Pip. I just hope we don’t get Tiffany back.
Pippa: I doubt that we will. I’m going to call Leanne first thing tomorrow morning.
Ian: I’m proud of you, Pip. You know that, don’t you?
Pippa: Of course, sweetheart.
*Ian and Pippa kiss*
Ian: Say, where are the others?
Pippa: Tiegan is coming home tomorrow, Stephanie and Ursula went to the movies and Matthew’s at the Café.
(At the Carrington Café, Matthew and Michelle are having a friendly date.)
Michelle: I’m so glad my idiot friends aren’t interrupting us this time.
Matthew: Who are they?
Michelle: Julia Gardner and Tanya Copeland, my so-called best friends.
Matthew: I’m sure they meant no malice.
Michelle: They’re just jealous.
*Matthew laughs*
Michelle: I’m having a really great time. Are you?
Matthew: I sure am.
*Michelle and Matthew look at each other before slowly leaning towards each other and start to kiss*
Matthew: That was good.
Michelle: Tell me about it. *smiles*
*Matthew smiles back*

The following afternoon (Tuesday), Tiegan arrives back at the house after filming her interview with Denise Drysdale.
Tiegan: I’m back!
Stephanie: TIEGAN!!!
*Stephanie races up to Tiegan and hugs her tight*
Tiegan: It’s so good to be home. Where are Pippa and Ian?
Stephanie: They’ve gone to pick up Cherie.
Tiegan: Who?
Stephanie: Oh, Cherie is Pippa and Ian’s latest foster child.
Tiegan: Let’s just hope this one isn’t as bad as Tiffany.
Stephanie: Speaking of Tiffany, her court case is on Thursday.
Tiegan: Who cares? I’m not going.
Stephanie: Neither am I, but Pippa and Ian are.
Tiegan: I pray to the man upstairs that Tiffany doesn’t come back.
*Pippa and Ian walk through the door with a short girl*
Pippa: Hello sweetheart. Welcome home. *hugs Tiegan*
Tiegan: Thanks Pippa.
Ian: Come here Tiegan.
*Tiegan hugs Ian*
Pippa: Girls, I’d like you to meet Cherie Lancaster. She’ll be with us for a few weeks.
Stephanie: Hey Cherie.
Cherie: Hi. *flicks her long blonde hair to the side*
Tiegan: It’s okay. We don’t bite.
Cherie: I’m just a shy person. *smiles weakly*
Pippa: Cherie will be sleeping in Stephanie’s room when Ursula leaves. In the meantime, she’ll be sharing a room with Tiegan.
Tiegan: Sounds cool.
*Cherie smiles at this*
(Outside the Routledge house, Tiffany is gazing through the window.)
Tiffany: They want to replace me huh?!? I’ll show them what I’m like when people replace me.
*Tiffany looks furious!*

NEXT TIME ON LIFE AFTER SUMMER BAY

- Stephanie and Tiegan try to help a lonely Cherie settle in

Episode 15

That night, Cherie is sitting on the sofa looking sad.
Tiegan: Cherie?
*Cherie sighs sadly*
Cherie: Yes?
*Stephanie and Tiegan walk over to Cherie*
Stephanie: Are you okay?
Cherie: I’m just lonely. *sighs*
Tiegan: You’ll be okay.
Cherie: You girls are much older than I am. I’m only 12.
Stephanie: Hey. It doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. *smiles*
Cherie: I guess not.
Stephanie: I’ll tell you what. Why don’t we take you to the park tomorrow?
Cherie: You would do that?
Tiegan: Of course. *smiles*
*Cherie manages to smile back*
Cherie: Thanks.
*Stephanie and Tiegan hug Cherie*
Tiegan: We want you to feel welcome here, Cherie. Even if you’re staying for a few weeks.
*the phone rings*
Ian: *coming downstairs* I’ll get that. *picks up the phone* Hello? Hi Mum, how are you? Oh, that’s great news. When? Tomorrow? Sure, why not.
*Pippa comes downstairs*
Ian: I look forward to seeing you. Okay, Mum. I’ll see you tomorrow. Goodbye. *hangs up the phone*
Pippa: Was that Patricia?
Ian: Yes, Pippa. That was my mother. She’s coming to stay for a few days.
Pippa: Oh great.
Ian: She’s not that bad.
Pippa: Not that bad? The last time she visited, she criticised my cooking skills.
Stephanie: I wouldn’t worry about Nana Routledge, Pippa. Your cooking is the best.
Pippa: Thanks Steph. *smiles*
Tiegan: I can totally agree with Stephanie on that one, Pip. *smiles*
Cherie: Is Nana Routledge nice?
Ian: She’s a lovely lady.
Pippa: When she wants to be.
*Cherie laughs as Ursula comes downstairs*
Ursula: I’m glad you’re all here. I’ve decided to leave.
Stephanie: What?
Ursula: I mean, I’m leaving this house. I’m moving across the street from you guys.
Pippa: Ursula, that’s great news! *hugs her*
Ursula: I want to make the Carrington Ranges my home now.
Stephanie: This calls for a group hug.
*Stephanie, Tiegan and Cherie hug Ursula*

The next morning, Ursula is packing the last of her things before getting ready to move into her new house across the street.
Ursula: Thanks for letting me stay here, Pippa and Ian.
Pippa: You’re welcome. Any of Stephanie’s friends are allowed to stay.
Ursula: At least I’ll still visit you. I’m only across the street.
Tiegan: And we’ll always visit you.
*Stephanie hugs Ursula*
Stephanie: Good luck, Ursula.
Ursula: Thanks. Well, I better go to my new house. Come visit soon.
Ian: Bye Ursula.
*Everyone waves as Ursula leaves the house*
Pippa: Where’s Cherie? I thought you girls were taking her to the park.
Stephanie: We are. We’re just waiting for her to get out of bed.
*Matthew comes downstairs*
Matthew: I’m heading off.
Ian: Wait. Where are you going?
Matthew: To see Michelle.
Ian: Nana Routledge is coming.
Matthew: Don’t worry, I’ll be home before dinner. Bye. *leaves*
Pippa: Cherie?
*Cherie comes downstairs*
Cherie: Yes Pippa?
Pippa: On your way back from the park, could you and the girls get a leg of lamb for tonight’s dinner.
Ian: Pippa, Mum prefers pork.
Pippa: Well, I’m cooking a lamb!
Stephanie: Come on, Cherie.
Tiegan: You’ll love the park.
Cherie: I know I do.
(At the park, Tiegan is pushing Cherie on the swing while Stephanie is also on the swing.)
Tiegan: Having fun?
Cherie: Yes. This is great.
Stephanie: I remember when Liam used to push me on the swing. Those were the days. *sighs*
Cherie: Who’s Liam?
Stephanie: My boyfriend. He lives in Peru.
Tiegan: You should visit him.
Stephanie: I’m already saving up to see my long lost mother in Africa.
Tiegan: I’ll lend you the money.
Stephanie: Tiegan, you don’t have to do that. I know you’re my bestie, but you should use your money for the things you need.
*they hear the ice cream truck jingle*
Cherie: Ice cream!
*Stephanie gets off the swing*
Stephanie: Which ice cream would you like, Cherie?
Cherie: An ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles please.
Stephanie: Sure. You want one, Tiegan?
Tiegan: Sure. I’ll have a chocolate ice cream cone.
*Stephanie leaves to get the ice cream*
Tiegan: Ready for another push, Cherie?
Cherie: Sure.
*Tiegan and Cherie look over to find Tiffany marching over to them*
Tiffany: Well, well. If it isn’t Tiegan!
Tiegan: What do you want, bitch?!
Tiffany: I haven’t forgotten about that little stunt you pulled when I was last at your filthy home!
Tiegan: You’re the one that wanted to go to another home! I say, good riddance! You caused so much problems in the house that it wasn’t even funny!
*Tiffany looks at Cherie*
Tiffany: So, you’re the bitch that replaced me huh?
Tiegan: Cherie didn’t replace you, all right! You lost all rights to complain the minute you left Pippa and Ian’s!
Tiffany: I don’t appreciate people replacing me.
Cherie: Leave us alone! I’ve done nothing to you.
Tiffany: REALLY BITCH?! HOW ABOUT THIS?!
*Tiffany pulls Cherie’s hair really hard before slapping her*
Cherie: Ow! *starts to cry*
Tiegan: GET OFF HER!
*Stephanie races over*
Stephanie: HEY! GET OFF CHERIE, NOW!
*Stephanie pushes Tiffany back*
Stephanie: HOW DARE YOU COME BACK AND TAUNT US, YOU MALICIOUS BITCH! GET LOST!
Tiffany: Whatever losers. I’m out of here. *storms off*
*Stephanie and Tiegan hug Cherie*

Back at the house, Pippa and Ian are in the kitchen when they hear the door knock.
Ian: I think this could be Mum.
*Pippa sighs as Ian opens the door*
Patricia: Darling!
Ian: Mum! How great to see you.
*Patricia and Ian kiss each other on the cheek before they hug*
Patricia: Why hello Philippa.
Pippa: Patricia, It’s great to see you.
*they hug*
Patricia: I must say Philippa, the house looks great.
Pippa: Thanks. But I would prefer you if you called me Pippa.
Patricia: Right. *to Ian* My darling boy, can I have a cup of Nescafe?
Ian: Of course you can, Mum.
*As Ian goes into the kitchen to make Patricia a cup of coffee, the girls walk in*
Pippa: Cherie, what happened to you?
*Cherie is still crying*
Tiegan: Pippa, I’m so angry right now. Tiffany attacked Cherie while we were at the park.
Pippa: NO SHE DIDN’T?! *looks furious*
Stephanie: I’m afraid so.
Pippa: Girls, stay here. I’m going to find Tiffany myself and she will be one very sorry girl! I can promise you that!
*Pippa leaves the house, slamming the door behind her*
Patricia: Who’s Tiffany?
Ian: I’ll tell you later, Mum. It’s a long story.
(Pippa sees Tiffany outside the Carrington Café as she is driving. She immediately pulls over.)
Tiffany: What do you want?!
Pippa: How dare you assault my latest foster charge! It’s bad enough what you did while Ian and I fostered you, but you NEVER lay a finger on a 12 year-old girl and expect to get away with it!
Tiffany: P*** off!
Pippa: I HAVEN’T FINISHED SPEAKING!
Tiffany: Well, I have!
*Pippa grabs Tiffany by the arm*
Pippa: Do you have ANY remorse for all the trouble you cause?!
*Tiffany turns away from Pippa*
Pippa: I guess not. Don’t worry, I’ll let the court know what you did to Cherie.
Tiffany: You can’t do that to me!
Pippa: You just pushed the boundaries, young lady! You are a spiteful, heartless little bitch! That’s right! A SPITEFUL, HEARTLESS LITTLE BITCH! You can go rot in hell! I don’t care if I never see you again!
*Pippa gets back in her car and drives off*
