first one. The second one, from what I've seen is just an extremely irritating charicature... and don't suit other storylines than being weird and so called funny. The first one wasn't in it for long, and didn't get any chance to have a good storyline, but he seemed like one who could have done both sad, happy and funny storylines.

When the recast happened the character was written differently so I prefer Dexter2. Charles protrays the new Dexter perfect but I think Tom would also be great playing the new personality of Dexter. His charater on dance academy has similar traits and he shines in that role. Both are great actors.

Now I feel embarrassed. Lol. I said the first, but only because the second annoys me like, a lot!

It's not the same character, quite literally. The second one's not portrayed like the first one so I don't like him that much.

I have to say the second one, even though he does annoy me at times. But I think it's down to the writing as much as the actor.During his first stint, he just seemed to have no personality whatsoever and was clearly the weakest of the Walkers, he was just a bog standard sensitive teen without any real character traits and even the odd bit of sarcasm fell rather flat.Since he came back, there are times when they try and portray him as funny and whacky when the situation doesn't call for it and he just comes across as rude and annoying. But he is genuinely laugh out loud funny at times and they do occasionally manage to add depth of the character, such as his sibling scenes with Indigo when they really do seem to have a close relationship and their teasing is quite natural. Some of the stuff with Mitzy and Adrian and now Graves is actually pretty good as well and he does seem to be genuine underneath the clowning.

I agree with Jodlebirger. For the most part I cannot stand the second incarnation of Dexter. He’s extremely annoying. A lot of the sarcastic and smart remarks are wearing thin and I don’t find them funny in the least. What immediately started to turn me off him was the underhand way he was trying to sabotage Sid’s dates with Marilyn (I didn’t mind the borderline stalking incidentally). With the first Dexter there wasn’t much to him but I agree it was due to the writing (much like with Jai) and think given the right storylines he could have improved. I do think there is a plus side with the current Dexter and that was/is his pursuit of Adrian (Rocky style) and Graves both of which a times have been really amusing. I can’t figure the guy out though. I mentioned this on another thread but during a conversation with Adrian (before he did his trademark walking out act) when she was psycho analysing him she mentioned that when he went out of his way to be strange there was a certain degree of performance. I can’t tell if Dexter is putting on an act or whether the character is actually supposed to be like that.
