Episode 21

At Alf and Ailsa’s house, Karen is in the living room talking to Tracy.

Karen: I heard about your mother on the news. I’m terribly sorry.

Tracy: I know about the lawsuit my mother had against you.

Karen: You do?

Tracy: Yes. My mother could be so stubborn whenever she wanted to do something, she went along and did it.

Karen: It was accident what I did to her hair. It was my first day of work and I was completely excited.

Tracy: I understand. My mother went overboard with the lawsuit.

Karen: The news is nearly on. Want to watch it?

Tracy: Sure.

*Karen turns the television on and watches Prime Local News*

V/O: This is Prime Local News with Claire Robinson

Claire: Good evening. Investigations into the death of Summer Bay local Elizabeth Fulwell have been revealed today. The cause of Saturday night’s house fire was believed to be started by two petrol bombs thrown inside the house while Mrs Fulwell slept. Debbie LeGrand with more.

Tracy: OMG!!!! *starts to cry*

Karen: Come here. *hugs Tracy*

Over at Joanne’s place, her and Pam are watching the news report as well.

Joanne: We are famous!

Pam: Too right. *they high-five*

Joanne: But I’m worried about what Karen might tell the police.

Pam: She better not! It’s bad enough that you struck Finlay over the head with that beer glass and killed her.

Joanne: I know. And if anyone snitches on us, they’ll be on the list too!

Pam: Got it! *they high five*

The next day, Lynn is cleaning up in the kitchen when there is a knock on the door.

Lynn: Coming. *opens the door to find her parents standing there*

Barry: Hello Lynnie!

Lynn: Hi Mum and Dad. What brings you here? *hugs them*

Julie: Thought we’d come over and stay for the weekend.

Lynn: If I knew you were coming, I would have fixed up a couple of beds in my room.

Julie: We wanted to surprise you.

Lynn: Well, I’m surprised. *smiles*

Barry: Where are your roommates?

Lynn: They’re both at work. I don’t have to be at the diner until this afternoon.

Barry: Do you still go to church?

Lynn: Of course. I don’t give up my religion and church Dad.

Julie: Are Tom and Pippa still around?

Lynn: Tom died three years ago while Pippa’s gone back to live with her parents.

Barry: That’s not like Pippa to give up her foster kids.

Lynn: She was terrorised by Pam Wilson.

Julie: Who’s that?

Lynn: A conniving little trollop that is always causing trouble.

Barry: Language Lynn!

Lynn: Sorry. *laughs*

At Summer Bay High School, Pam and Joanne are smoking when Sandra approaches them.

Sandra: No smoking on the school grounds!

Pam: Get nicked Barlow!

Sandra: Would you like to be sent to Mr Fisher’s office Miss Wilson?

Pam: God no!

Sandra: Then put the cigarette out.

Pam: Fine. *jabs her cigarette into Sandra’s right arm*

Sandra: OUCH!

Pam: Just remember something Barlow. If you ever tell Mr Fisher what you saw on that CCTV footage, you will be one sorry woman. *leaves*

Joanne: I would do what she says. You don’t want to make Pam angry. *walks off*

Unfortunately for Pam and Joanne, Kellie saw the whole incident and tells Mr Fisher about it.

Kellie: I saw Pam jab a cigarette into Miss Barlow’s arm Mr Fisher.

Donald: Have you got any proof Miss Moon?

Kellie: Yes. Pam and Joanne were smoking and Miss Barlow busted them.

Donald: I see. Thank you for the information Kellie.

*A few minutes later, Donald is ripping into both Pam and Joanne*

Donald: HOW DARE YOU ASSAULT A TEACHER!!!!

Pam: Is jabbing someone with a cigarette assault? I never knew that!

Donald: I’M NOT IN THE MOOD FOR YOUR SARCASM WILSON! YOU AND BRENNAN ARE SUSPENDED FOR A WEEK. AND WHEN YOU DO COME BACK TO SCHOOL, YOU WILL APOLOGISE TO MISS BARLOW! NOW GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!

*Pam and Joanne walk off*

Joanne: How did he find out if Miss Barlow is in the sick bay?

Pam: Don’t worry Jo. I know exactly who snitched on us.

Over in sick bay, Sandra is given a small dressing to cover the cigarette burn.

Sandra: Thanks Kathy.

Kathy: No worries. That Pam Wilson is nothing but trouble!

Sandra: I know. At least I don’t have any classes this afternoon.

Kathy: Did you hear what happened to Betty?

Sandra: I know. It’s really sad. How could someone so callous throw two petrol bombs at her house?

Kathy: Beats me.

Sandra: And if I know Pam and Joanne, I bet they might have something to do with it.

*Kathy looks shocked*

When school is dismissed that afternoon, Pam and Joanne see Kellie walking home.

Pam: Hey Jo! I think its about time we taught the snitch a lesson! Wouldn’t you say?

Joanne: Yeah!

*Kellie runs for her life with Pam and Joanne not too far behind.*

Joanne: STOP HER ESCAPING!!!

*Pam grabs Kellie by the shirt*

Joanne: And you know what we do to snitches right? We give them a beating! *punches Kellie in the stomach*

To Miss Barlow,

I’m moving to Melbourne to start a new life. I will never forget what you did for me. You are a wonderful teacher and I hope that Pam and Joanne will get their comeuppance soon.

Yours truly,

Sarah Thompson.

*Irene sees Sandra read the letter*

Irene: You okay love?

Sandra: Sarah Thompson’s moved to Melbourne.

Irene: Oh I’m so sorry love. I can’t believe that no one believes her about the purse being stolen.

Sandra: I could strangle those two scumbags!

Irene: Come here love. *goes over to Sandra and hugs her*

At school the next day, there is a new girl in Sally’s class; Jacquelyn Maddock.

Sandra: Please make Jacquelyn feel welcome everybody. *to Jacquelyn* You may take a seat Jacquelyn.

*Jacquelyn sits with Sally and Kate*

Jacquelyn: Hi.

Sally: Hi. My name is Sally.

Jacquelyn: I was talking to her. *points at Kate* Hi there. I’m Jacquelyn Maddock. And you are?

Kate: Kate Desmond. *shakes Jacquelyn’s hand*

Jacquelyn: Who that rat you’re sitting next to?

Kate: SALLY happens to be my best friend!

Jacquelyn: I see.

Sally: So, which school did you come from Jacquelyn?

*Jacquelyn ignores her*

Sally: I said which school did you….

Jacquelyn: I HEARD YOU! NOW SHUT UP!!!

Sally: COW!!!!

Jacquelyn: I KNOW YOU ARE!!

*Hannah Francis laughs*

Hannah: Oh Sally! That must be so humiliating for you!

*Sally runs out in tears*

Sandra: DETENTION FOR BOTH OF YOU!!! NOT A GOOD START MISS MADDOCK!!!

*Jacquelyn glares at Sandra*

Jacquelyn: Don’t care.

Meanwhile, Pam and Joanne are truanting PE when they see Kellie.

Pam: Keep lookout for me Jo.

Joanne: Sure thing bestie. *walks away*

*Pam approaches Kellie*

Pam: Hey Kellie.

Kellie: What do you want?

Pam: I just came to bury the hatchet. Do you need any help with the garbage?

Kellie: Sure.

*As Kellie puts some garbage bags in the big metal recycling bin, Pam picks up a garbage can lid and walks over to Kellie…*

At lunchtime, Kellie is nowhere to be found although Pam has returned from helping her with the garbage.

Joanne: Where’s Kellie?

Pam: Dunno. When I finished helping her with the garbage, I left.

Joanne: No one has seen her since Period 4.

Pam: Is that right?

*Joanne nods her head*

Pam: I wonder where she could be.

*Fisher approaches them*

Fisher: Have any of you seen Kellie?

Pam/Joanne: No sir.

Fisher: We’ve searched everywhere for her, even in the recycling bin. She’s not there.

Joanne: She could be at home.

Fisher: I called. She’s not there.

Pam: I see. We haven’t seen her since Period 4.

Fisher: Let me know if she returns.

Pam: We will. *lets out a huge breath* That was close.

Joanne: Yeah. They could fly over the moon.

Sandra: Got it!

*Sandra then slips out of the house quietly before driving off*

When Pam and Joanne get home, they notice the CCTV tape is missing.

Donald: You stole a teacher’s purse and tried to frame another student for it! I really don’t understand you girls!

Pam: It was an accident.

Joanne: That’s right.

Melanie: No it wasn’t. You deliberately stole it and then tried to pass the buck onto Sarah which nearly worked had it not been for Miss Barlow showing Mr Fisher the CCTV tape.

Donald: That’s right. Now that Sarah has moved to Melbourne, thanks to your callous plans, I’m delighted to tell you that you’re both EXPELLED!!

Pam: YOU CAN’T EXPEL US!!!

Sandra is grading work from her Year 11 students when Luke walks in.

Luke: Hello.

Sandra: Oh, hi Luke. I didn’t see you come in.

Luke: What are you up to?

Sandra: I’m just grading some work my Year 11 English class did today.

Luke: So, what’s this I hear about you thinking of getting a transfer to a high school in Newcastle?

*Sandra gulped*

Sandra: Who told you about that?

Luke: I overheard Mr Fisher mention it to you.

Sandra: I haven’t made a final decision yet.

Luke: Why do you want to leave Summer Bay, Sandra?

*Sandra sighs*

Sandra: I feel like there is nothing for me here anymore.

Luke: I see.

Sandra: Don’t get me wrong, Luke. You’ve been super cool but, in all honesty, I really don’t want to work at this school anymore after what happened last year with Pam and Joanne.

Luke: You don’t have to worry about them anymore.

Sandra: I know. I just need some thinking before I make a final decision about my future.

Luke: Whatever decision you make, I’ll fully support it.

Sandra: Thanks, Luke. *smiles*

*Luke smiles back before he walks out of the room, while Sandra resumes grading papers*

(Sandra finally makes her decision that night and decides to tell Irene and Lynn about it once they’ve finished eating dinner.)

Irene: Are you alright, darl? You seem a bit down.

Sandra: I need to talk to you about something important.

Lynn: Do tell us, Sandy.

Sandra: You know how I got offered a teaching position in Newcastle?

*Irene and Lynn both nod their heads*

Sandra: Well, I’ve decided to take it.

Irene: Oh love, that is great news! I’m really happy for you.

Lynn: When do you leave?

Sandra: Tomorrow.

Lynn: Why so soon?

Sandra: The principal at Merewether High wants me to start as soon as possible. I’ll be staying with my cousin Nickie until I get a place of my own.

Irene: Well, it’s been great having you here. We’ll miss you, love.

*Sandra smiles as tears start to form in her eyes*

Sandra: I’ll miss this place too. This was my childhood home until Mum got killed.

*Lynn hugs Sandra tight as does Irene*

Episode 30

The next morning is Friday and today is the day Sandra gets ready to leave Summer Bay to start a new life in Newcastle. First, she’s signing off from Summer Bay High
Donald: I’m saddened to see you leave, Sandra. You’ve been a great asset to the school community.
Sandra: Thank you very much, Donald.
Donald: I hope Merewether High welcomes you with open arms.
Sandra: I’ve really come to like the students at this school. Just a shame that Hannah Francis and Melanie Holmes are no longer with us.
Donald: They’ll be remembered always.
Sandra: I bet Pam and Joanne are suffering in prison. All I can say to that is good riddance to bad rubbish.
Donald: Good luck. *extends his hand*
*Sandra shakes it*
Sandra: Thanks again.
(After signing out of Summer Bay High for the final time, Sandra makes her way to the Bayside Diner)
Ailsa: Ah, Sandra. I thought I missed you.
Sandra: I thought I’d come and say goodbye to you, Ailsa. I mean, I wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye to the woman that helped me find a foster home when Mum was killed.
Ailsa: Make sure to always stay in contact.
Sandra: Always. *smiles*
*Ailsa and Sandra hug as Blake and Karen enter*
Karen: There she is.
Blake: Karen and I wanted to give you these.
*Blake hands Sandra a bunch of flowers*
Sandra: Oh, they’re beautiful! Thank you so much.
Karen: Good luck in Newcastle.
Blake: We’re going to miss you heaps.
*Sandra hugs Blake*
Sandra: I’ll miss you guys as well.
*Sandra then hugs Karen*
(Later, Sandra finds Sarah outside the Surf Club)
Sarah: Just the person I wanted to see.
Sandra: Sarah, I’m so glad that you decided to go back to school.
Sarah: I just want to say thanks for always believing in me. If it wasn’t for you exposing Pam and Joanne and changing Fisher’s mind, I’d probably still be expelled from Summer Bay High.
Sandra: My pleasure. *smiles*
Sarah: I’ll miss you.
Sandra: And I’ll miss you too, Sarah. Now, come give us a hug.
*Sarah and Sandra hug*

That afternoon, Sandra puts her suitcases into the boot of Lynn’s car.
Sandra: Well, I guess this is it.
Irene: Now have you got everything, darl?
Sandra: Yes, I’ve got everything I have. *smiles*
Irene: Remember that you’re always welcome here anytime, Sandy.
Sandra: Thanks for everything, Irene.
Irene: My pleasure, love.
*Sandra and Irene hug and kiss on the cheek*
Sandra: I’ll call you when I get to Newcastle. If another woman answers, that’ll be Nickie, my cousin.
Irene: Got it.
Lynn: We better get a move on, Sandy.
Sandra: Okay, Lynn. *to Irene* I’ll always love you like a mother. Same goes for Ailsa as well.
Irene: Good luck in Newcastle, love.
*Sandra gets in the passenger’s seat and waves at Irene before Lynn drives away*
Irene: I’m really going to miss her.

*As Irene goes inside, she hears the phone ring and answers it*
Irene: Hello? Yes, this is Irene Roberts. May I ask who’s calling?
*Irene looks shocked*
Irene: Really? Well, thanks for letting me know. Okay, bye. *hangs up*
*Daniella and August return home from the Surf Club at that moment*
Daniella: We’re home, Irene.
Irene: Oh, that’s nice.
*Daniella and August can tell something’s wrong*
August: Irene, what’s wrong?
Irene: I just had a phone call from Blackmoor. Pam Wilson hung herself inside her prison cell this morning.
*Daniella and August look at each other in shock*
(At Yabbie Creek Train Station, Sandra is saying goodbye to Lynn)
Lynn: We better stay in touch, Sandy. You’re my best friend.
Sandra: We will be best friends forever, Lynn. Just because I’m moving to Newcastle doesn’t mean we can’t stay in touch and remain best friends.
Lynn: I know that.
Sandra: Look after Irene for me.
Lynn: I will.
*Sandra’s train arrives*
Sandra: There’s my train.
Lynn: Goodbye, Sandy.
*Sandra and Lynn hug*
Sandra: Bye, Lynn. When I get settled in, come for a visit.
Lynn: For sure. *smiles*
*Sandra boards the train before sitting down and looking out the window*
Lynn: Take care and I wish you all the best!
*Sandra and Lynn wave at each other until the train drives off*
Sandra: Here’s to new beginnings, Sandra Barlow.
*Sandra holds up her bottle of Pepsi Max before taking a sip of it. She then looks out the window and smiles*
