Episode 13

The next morning, Ailsa and Lynn are walking to the diner.

Ailsa: Would you like to work on the coffee machine today?

Lynn: Of course. *sees the unlocked door* Did you forget to lock up last night Ailse?

Ailsa: Like heck! That’s been forced! *opens the door*

*Ailsa and Lynn walk inside and can’t believe what they see*

Lynn: Oh no! Bloody vandals!

Ailsa: I don’t believe this!

Lynn: Who would do such a thing? And to take the jukebox as well!

Ailsa: We better get this cleaned up before the customers arrive.

*Ailsa and Lynn begin to put the diner back into its original place*

Meanwhile at school, Pam and Joanne are boasting about what they did to the diner the night before.

Joanne: I can just imagine the clean-up now! *laughs*

Pam: Yeah. The old bag had it coming. Wanna smoke?

Joanne: Definitely! *takes a cigarette*

*Angel and Sarah walk over to them*

Sarah: Did you hear? The diner got robbed last night!

Pam: Yeah. I heard it on the news.

Angel: What did Ailsa do to anybody?

Joanne: I don’t know. She’s a really nice person.

*Sarah looks at Pam and Joanne suspiciously*

Sarah: I’ll see you class.

Pam: Okay.

*Angel and Sarah walk off*

Joanne: I think it’s time we got rid Sarah, aye?

Pam: Yeah. She looked very suspicious. I have an excellent idea.

Joanne: What is it?

*Pam whispers her excellent idea*

Joanne: Very good. We’ll plant the evidence at recess.

After Sam Barlow is recaptured by the police, Sandra takes the day off from school and returns home.

Sandra: I’m sorry.

Irene: Don’t be love. I know what you went through while you lived with him.

Sandra: I’m just glad you tipped-off the police. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been found.

Irene: It’s okay love.

*Sandra and Irene hug*

At their house, Bobby and Sam are packing the last of their belongings before heading up to start a new life in Queensland.

Bobby: You ready Sam?

Sam: Yep!

*Bobby and Sam get in the car and start to drive off. As they do, they start saying their goodbyes*

Sam/Bobby: GOODBYE SUMMER BAY!!!! *they smile*

At lunchtime, Pam and Joanne’s Biology teacher Melanie Holmes storms into Mr Fisher’s with a face like a thundercloud.

Donald: What’s wrong Miss Holmes?

Melanie: I went to pay for my lunch at the canteen and found that my purse had been stolen. I want a locker search done NOW!!

*After searching the lockers for ten minutes, Donald uncovers a red purse from Sarah Thompson’s locker*

Donald: Is this what you were looking for Miss Holmes?

Melanie: Yes, it is. Where did you find it?

Donald: In Miss Thompson’s locker.

Sarah: Hang on! I’ve never seen that before. Pam and Joanne might’ve planted it.

*Miss Holmes walks towards Pam*

Melanie: Did you take my purse and plant it in Sarah’s locker?

Pam: I’ve never seen that purse in my life Miss Holmes.

*Satisfied with Pam’s answer, Miss Holmes questions Joanne who gives her the same response as Pam*

Melanie: Right Thompson. To Mr Fisher’s office.

Sarah: But I didn’t do it! Why would I take your purse?

Donald: Don’t argue and just do as your told!

*Donald and Miss Holmes lead Sarah away while Pam and Joanne smirk at the result*

In Mr Fisher’s office, Sarah is trying plead her case.

Sarah: I swear I didn’t steal your purse or any of the contents in it.

Melanie: I had $25 in that purse and now its gone. Any ideas?

Sarah: But I’m telling you…

Donald: That’s enough! You stole the purse and put it in you locker. Not to mention stealing another person’s money. That’s theft. As a result of this, you are expelled.

Sarah: But I didn’t do it sir!

Donald: Thompson. I suggest you quit lying while you are ahead. Will you be pressing any charges Miss Holmes?

Melanie: No. But I want the $25 dollars returned.

Sarah: I DIDN’T TAKE IT!!!!

Melanie: JUST LEAVE NOW!!!

*Sarah runs out of Mr Fisher’s office in tears. As Sarah runs outside, Pam and Joanne are delighted with the result*

Joanne: I think our purse thief just got expelled.

Pam: Same. No one in Summer Bay will ever trust her again. *high-fives Joanne*

Pam and Joanne’s final class of the day is English. They see this as a perfect opportunity to bully Angel.

Pam: Hey Guardian Angel! Looks like your friend got expelled for being a thief.

Angel: She didn’t steal the purse! You two did!

*Joanne walks over to her*

Joanne: How can you prove it Angel?

Angel: You and Pam were whispering to each other before roll call.

Pam: That doesn’t prove nothing you idiot! Why don’t you just fly away!

Joanne: Yeah. Why don’t you comfort your best friend Sarah the master thief!

Angel: THAT DOES IT! *runs at Joanne and attacks her*

Class: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

*Sandra eventually breaks them up*

Sandra: OUTSIDE BOTH OF YOU!!!!

Joanne: Don’t bother! I’m going! *storms out of the classroom followed by Pam*

*Once outside, Pam checks up on Joanne*

Pam: You okay bestie?

Joanne: I’ll live.

Pam: We’ll get back at her. Don’t you worry about that.

At Northern Districts Hospital, Kerry and Irene are sitting by Finlay’s bedside when Dr. Kelly Weston comes in.

Kelly: Ladies?

Kerry: Yes?

Kelly: I’ve just run some tests on Finlay. And the news isn’t good.

Irene: What seems to be the problem?

Kelly: The test that we’ve done really confirm that beyond doubt that Finlay’s brain has stopped working and I can only tell you that we need to take her off the machine.

Irene: Oh no!

*Kerry gasps*

Irene: My daughter! *starts sobbing* How could she die?

Kelly: It was the way her head landed on the concrete.

Kerry: OMG! How are we going to tell the kids?

Irene: This can’t be happening.

*Kelly turns off the heart rate monitor*

Irene: My poor girl!!!! *starts wailing*

When Irene returns home, she waits for Sandra, Lynn, August and Daniella to tell them the sad news.

Irene: I’ve got some really bad news about Fin.

Lynn: What is it?

Irene: The brain injury as a result of her head hitting the concrete… *starts crying*

Daniella: Oh no. I’m really sorry Irene. *hugs her*

Sandra: Does Damian know yet?

Irene: Kerry’s taking him to the hospital now. I just can’t believe that my own daughter would be killed by a piece of concrete.

August: Come here. *goes over to Irene and hugs her*

At the hospital, Kerry phones Pippa with the tragic news.

Kerry: Pippa. It’s me. I’ve got some bad news about Finlay. She died this afternoon. I understand. Well, Irene’s making the funeral arrangements so I’ll let you know when the funeral is. I’ll see you soon. Love you. Bye. *hangs up the phone while wiping away her tears*

*Damian stands over his sister and mourns at her death*

Damian: I love you Finlay. You’ll be in a better place now. *kisses her on the forehead*

Kerry: Come on Damian.

*Damian runs over to Kerry and hugs her*

Damian: It’s not fair Kerry. It’s just not fair. *starts crying*

Kerry: *crying* I know love. I know. I know.

Over at Alf and Ailsa’s, Karen returns home from work and sees a letter addressed to her.

*Karen opens the letter and is shocked when she reads it*

Karen: OMG!!

*Ailsa runs in*

Ailsa: What is it love?

Karen: Betty Fulwell is suing me for that botched haircut on my first day of work.

Ailsa: Let me see that. *reads the letter* It’s legit all right.

Karen: I mean it was an accident for crying out loud.

Later, Karen shows the letter to Pam and Joanne.

Karen: I have to go to court next month! Accidents happen!

Pam: Don’t worry Karen. Me and Jo will talk to Betty and smooth things over.

Pam: We want to talk about why your suing our friend Karen Dean.

Betty: That’s none of your business.

Pam: I see…NOW!!!!

*Pam and Joanne force their way into Betty’s house*

Betty: You can’t come in here!!! Get out at once!!

Joanne: Oh shut up you old bat! *forces Betty to sit on an armchair*

Pam: Now Betty. What Karen did to your hair was an accidental mistake. Am I right?

Betty: No it wasn’t.

Joanne: IT WAS HER FIRST DAY ON THE JOB HAD YOU NOT NOTICED!!!

Betty: That’s no excuse to mess up my hair!

*Pam grabs Betty by the hair*

Joanne: Looks like she’s not learning the rules Pam.

Pam: Looks like it. Now you listen here you old gossip, you have two choices. You either drop the lawsuit against Karen and we’ll leave you alone. If you decide to go ahead with it, we’ll make sure your life is a living hell. GOT IT???

*Betty nervously nods her head*

Pam: Good. We’ll let ourselves out. *they leave*

The next day at school, Sally is in English and she struggles to write the work that is written on the board.

Sandra: Are you okay Sally?

Sally: No, I’m not.

Sandra: I’ll let you do the work another time. Why don’t you go outside for a few minutes and recuperate.

*Sally goes outside followed by Kate*

Kate: Talk to me Sal.

Sally: It’s just that…

Kate: What?

Sally: Finlay died yesterday.

Kate: OMG! I’m sorry to hear that.

*Sally starts to cry*

Sally: They had no choice but to turn the machine off.

Kate: Come here. *hugs Sally*

Meanwhile, Pam and Joanne cause trouble in Ancient History.

Pam: It’s a shame what happened to Finlay.

Joanne: Didn’t know she would cark it that quick!

*Daniella hears this and yells at Joanne*

Daniella: How can you say that?

Joanne: Say what?

Daniella: About Finlay dying. She didn’t ask for it to happen you heartless bitch!

Joanne: Oh Daniella. Did a strike a nerve?

Daniella: The only nerve you’ll strike is this! *punches Joanne right in the face*

Pam: Hurt my bestie aye? *runs at Daniella*

*However, Daniella is prepared and kicks Pam twice before throwing her against the wall*

Daniella: That’ll teach you! *walks out*

*When class is dismissed, Pam and Joanne go straight to the back of the English department and have a smoke.*

Pam: I can’t believe that little bitch! Bold as she like, she attacks us in front of the whole class.

Joanne: Yeah.

Pam: We still going to Zoe’s party on Saturday night?

Joanne: Of course. The party’s going to be crash hot!

Pam: I just hope they have the supplies.

Joanne: Oh they will. *lights up another smoke*

Pam: Quick! Flathead’s coming!

*They stub out their smokes before Mr Fisher approaches them*

Donald: What are you ladies doing?

Pam: Just passing the time.

Donald: You know this area is out of bounds. Now go to the oval.

Joanne: Yes sir. *rolls her eyes*

After school, Sandra is at the diner when she sees Sarah sitting sadly by herself.

Sandra: Hi Sarah.

Sarah: Don’t tell me. You think I’m a thief too?

Sandra: No I don’t. I think you’re innocent. *sits down next to her*

Sarah: You do?

Sandra: Yes. How were things today?

Sarah: Mum and Dad wouldn’t talk to me at all. When I got on the bus this morning, everyone called me a thief and a swindler. I just want to leave.

Sandra: I’ll help you get back into Summer Bay High.

Sarah: Don’t bother. I’ll just look for work in Yabbie Creek. *walks off depressed*

*Sandra looks defeated*

Later, Sandra sees Pam and Joanne and confronts them about the purse.

Sandra: I know the two of you planted Miss Holmes’s purse into Sarah’s locker.

Pam: What proof have you got Barlow?

Sandra: I could get Mr Fisher to check the CCTV footage and when he realises that Sarah didn’t take it, you’re both gone.

Joanne: You wouldn’t dare!

Sandra: Is that right? Just remember who your English teacher is. *walks off*

*Pam and Joanne look at each other with a worried expression*

Episode 16

That night, Pam and Joanne are at home smoking pot.

Pam: Where does bloody Miss Barlow get off and think she can expose us!

Joanne: Too right. We have to get that CCTV tape!

Pam: The problem is we don’t know where they are.

Joanne: I do. You can turn them off in Fisher’s office.

Pam: He’s gone all day tomorrow. But I know just the person for the job.

So at school the next day, Pam and Joanne find the right person.

Pam: Hey Stacey.

Stacey: Oh, hi Pam. What can I do for you?

Pam: Listen. I need you to get that CCTV tape the day Sarah was expelled for stealing Miss Holmes’s purse.

Stacey: How come?

*Pam whispers to Joanne*

Joanne: We’ll give you a huge cut.

Stacey: Certainly. See you later. *walks off*

Pam: Shame Barlow! *high-fives Joanne*

Over at the Fletcher house, Miss Molloy arrives with a new foster kid.

Miss Molloy: Hello Kerry. You’re new foster kid is here. This is Starr Manning.

Starr: Hi.

Kerry: Hello Starr. It’s so nice to meet you.

Starr: Are there any other kids here?

Kerry: Yes. But they are at school now.

Miss Molloy: I hope you enjoy it here. *leaves*

Starr: Which is my room?

Kerry: You will have the bedroom downstairs. So unpack and I’ll get you something to eat.

Starr: I’m not really hungry. Do you have any soft drink?

Kerry: Plenty in the refrigerator. Help yourself.

*Starr goes into the kitchen*

At lunchtime, Stacey meets Pam near a shady tree in the back oval.

Stacey: Here’s the tape.

Pam: You’re a gem! Here’s your cut. *hands Stacey a huge wad of money*

Stacey: Thanks. *leaves*

Pam: What have we got next and last period Jo?

Joanne: We have Maths and English.

Pam: We are so truanting!

Joanne: What better way to go home and destroy this wretched tape!

Pam: Very good bestie! *they high-five*

Later, Sandra is marking the roll for her Year 11 English class.

Sandra: Has anyone seen Pam Wilson and Joanne Brennan today?

Irene: *drunkenly* Fin do the washing for me.

*Sandra notices the empty bottle of vodka*

Sandra: OMG!!!! LYNN!!!!!

*Lynn runs down*

Lynn: Yes Sandy?

Sandra: Irene’s passed out. I think she’s drinking again.

Episode 17

The next day, Finlay’s funeral is held at the local church. Irene, Damian, Lynn, Sandra and Kerry sit in the front row across from a white coffin.

*Reverend Timothy Lovejoy takes the stand*

Rev. Lovejoy: Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to pay our respects for Finlay Roberts whose life was tragically cut short at just age 16. She was a talented netball player, had lots of friends at school and made plans to go to university and get her teaching degree once she finished the HSC.

Irene: My poor baby…*wipes away a tear*

Rev. Lovejoy: I would like to call Finlay’s mother Irene to the stand.

*Irene goes to the podium*

Irene: What can I say about Finlay. She was just an angel who always put other people first rather than herself. People kept telling me what a lovely girl she was and they were right. *starts to break down* I’m sorry. I can’t go on.

*Lynn gets up and takes Irene back to her seat*

At Summer Bay High, Starr is trying to find Miss Holmes’s room but isn’t having luck.

*Mr Fisher approaches her*

Donald: Why aren’t you in class?

Starr: I’m trying to find where my Biology class is.

Donald: It’s in the science block. Just turn left until you find a door that has ‘Science’ on it.

Starr: Thanks. *walks to the Science block*

*When she arrives to class, Starr sits with Pam and Joanne*

Pam: I hear your one of the new Fletcher kids.

Starr: And?

Pam: I used to be one until I moved out.

Starr: You’re Pam aren’t you?

Pam: That’s right.

Joanne: And I’m Joanne, Pam’s best friend.

Starr: Where’s Miss Holmes?

Pam: She’s not here today. She’s gone to Finlay’s funeral.

Joanne: Good thing the slag’s dead.

*Starr glares at her*

Back at the church, all of the mourners lay red roses on Finlay’s coffin before they start to leave.

Lynn: Goodbye.

Irene: I love you sweetheart. *starts to cry*

Damian: See you later sis. *goes over to Irene and hugs her*

Sandra: You were a great person.

Kerry: Take care of her God.

*all of them walk off*

Later on at dinner, no one seems to be in the mood to talk.

Daniella: What is this?

Irene: Fish.

Daniella: I see.

August: Yuck! No offence Irene, but this fish tastes off.

*Surprisingly, Irene gets angry*

Irene: Don’t you like my cooking?

August: I do. It’s just that this fish…

Irene: I worked very hard to put a decent meal on this table!

Lynn: Take it easy.

Irene: I don’t think ANY of you realise what goes on into keeping this family fed! You all think you’d run a bloody marathon if you peel a potato or pick up a tea towel. WELL THAT’S NOT THE HALF OF IT!!! There’s the shopping, deciding what to buy, keeping to a budget and it’s not easy. None of it! IF YOU THINK ANY OF YOU CAN DO BETTER WELL YOUR WELCOME TO TRY. And if you think I’m fed up well your damn right I am fed up what with everyone complaining about this, that and the other and complaints about my cooking. I’ve had about as much as I can take!

*gets up from the table and storms out*

August: Come in.

*Irene enters his room*

Irene: Hi.

August: Hello.

Irene: May I sit down?

August: Sure.

*Irene sits on his bed*

Irene: I wanted to apologise for my carrying on at the dinner table. It was uncalled for.

August: I understand Irene.

Irene: It’s just so hard with Fin gone.

August: I know. She was a lovely girl. *hugs Irene*

Meanwhile, Lynn and Sandra are downstairs washing the dishes.

Lynn: I have never seen Irene explode like that.

Sandra: She was upset. The funeral was upsetting to us all.

Lynn: You going back to work tomorrow?

Sandra: Yes. I’ve got Year 11 first period. Can you believe it?

Lynn: That Pam Wilson is nothing but trouble.

Sandra: It’s not just Pam. It’s her friend Joanne Brennan as well!

Lynn: She lives in Department of Housing home doesn’t she?

*Sandra nods her head*

Lynn: I know her. She’s a junkie!

Sandra: They both are.

Lynn: I want a copy of their timetables please.

Sandra: Why?

Lynn: I just want to see what they study.

Sandra: I’ll try.

The next day, a new family moves into Bobby’s old house. They are the McCormack’s.

Rhonda: That was a long drive.

Gary: It’s even longer when your driving all the way from Busselton.

Kayla: I miss my friends already!

Rhonda: You’ll make new friends dear.

Kayla: I wonder if I’m going to be popular here in Summer Bay.

Nick: I find that unlikely.

Kayla: SHUT UP IDIOT!!! *hits him*

Nick: MUM!!!! KAYLA HIT ME!!!

Rhonda: Stop it both of you!

Gary: Now come and help Dad get the house together.

Kayla/Nick: Okay.

Over at Summer Bay High, Sandra is teaching her Year 11 English class.

Sandra: Now. Why did the Capulet and the Montague families feud with each other in Romeo and Juliet?

Pam: Dunno. It had something to do with their fathers?

Sandra: Any other questions?

*no one answers*

Sandra: What I want you to do is to read Act II of Romeo and Juliet and next lesson, we will write an essay for it.

Joanne: Not another essay. We’ve already had two this term!

Sandra: Problem Miss Brennan?

Joanne: No.

Sandra: Okay. Start reading.

*As the class reads, Starr is talking to Kellie Moon*

Starr: Hey Kellie.

Kellie: What?

Starr: Want to come over to my place after school?

Kellie: Sure.

*Pam looks like she wants to throw up*

Pam: You invited HER to go to your place?

Starr: Got a problem with it Pam?

Pam: As a matter of fact, I do. She’s a snitch.

Kellie: I am not!

Pam: Yes you are

Kellie: When did I ever snitch on you?

Pam: Last week. You told Miss Barlow that me and Jo were truanting.

Kellie: So?

Pam: So, I forgot to thank you. Here it is. *punches Kellie in the face*

Sandra: OUT PAM!!!

Pam: Bite me bitch!

Class: Ooooh!

Sandra: RIGHT! MR FISHER’S OFFICE NOW!!!

*Pam rolls her eyes and storms out*

Joanne: That’s what people get for snitching.

Sandra: DO YOU WANT TO JOIN HER JOANNE?!?

Joanne: CERTAINLY! *storms out as well*

*Sandra goes over to Kellie and checks up on her*

Sandra: You okay Kellie?

Kellie: I’ll be fine.

Sandra: Your nose is bleeding. Starr, take her to sick bay.

Starr: Sure Miss. *takes Kellie to the sick bay*

In Mr Fisher’s office, he is lecturing Pam and Joanne over the incident.

Donald: I will not allow any of my students hurting another student. Miss Moon is currently in sick bay with a broken nose.

*Pam laughs*

Donald: I don’t find this amusing Miss Wilson.

Pam: Never said it was.

Donald: And as for you Joanne, your insubordinate behaviour didn’t help matters.

*Joanne rolls her eyes*

Donald: NO JOANNE! Not while I’m here! You’re both on after school detention.

Pam: Big deal.

Donald: If you keep pushing your luck, I’ll make it a Saturday detention.

Pam: All right. We’ll go to it.

After school, Sally is walking home with Kate.

Kate: How are you holding up?

Sally: Still a bit sad.

Kate: Listen. Hannah’s having a sleepover on Friday night. You should go. It will help you take your mind off Finlay.

Sally: A sleepover would be nice.

*they arrive at the caravan park*

Kerry: Hi girls. How was school?

Sally: It was good.

Kate: Same.

Kerry: Can I fix you something to eat?

Sally: No thanks. We are going to do our homework.

Kerry: It’s good to see that you are putting your education first.

*Sally smiles then goes upstairs with Kate*

When Pam and Joanne get home, Pam phones Karen about how things went with Betty.

Pam: Hi Karen. It’s Pam. Listen, I was wondering how things went with Betty. Did she drop the lawsuit? Oh really? She can’t do that! Don’t worry Karen. I’ll sort her out. Bye. *hangs up the phone*

Joanne: What happened with Karen?

Pam: Looks like Betty is sticking with the lawsuit and she tried to have her charged with intimidation.

Joanne: That’s bull!

Pam: But don’t worry. I have an excellent idea. *whispers her idea to Joanne*

Joanne: I have to say Pam. That has to be one your most brilliant ideas ever.
