Luke Jacobz is new X Factor host

By David Knox on August 23, 2010

Actor and personality Luke Jacobz is the new host of Seven’s The X Factor.

He was announced as replacement host on Today Tonight this evening.

It is the second time Jacobz has hosted a talent show, having fronted Popstars for Seven in 2004.

He has also been a regular on Home and Away since 2008 and was a cast member on McLeod’s Daughters from 2005 -2009. He also won Dancing with the Stars in 2008.

Jacobz, whose ‘nice guy’ image contrasts with that of Newton, said he got a surprise call from Channel Seven late last night asking him to think about taking on the hosting role.

A surprised Jacobz said of Newton, “I wish him all the best and hope I am going to do as good a job as he was going to do.”

It is still unclear if footage of Newton in episodes will be broadcast.

The show premieres next Monday.

If the Aussie X Factor is as successful as ours then hopefully he will leave H&A!!

Doesn't quite work like that. The presenters and actors stay with their respected programs. The X Factor will reportedly air Sunday & Monday nights anyway.

But if he was brought back next year he would have to leave as the presenter has to be at the auditions, bootcamp and travel the world for judge's houses/ Here. X factor starts filming in June and wraps in December so it's six months gone.

Pretty crap circumstances surrounding how he got the job. But I remember him as far back as being on the Big Arvo, he's a likeable guy. Good luck to him, I'm sure he'll be great.

If Esther could keep going back and forth between Melbourne & Sydney every week while she was doing DWTS while at the same time still filming H&A and basically working ridiculously long/crazy hours then I can't see it being an issue for Luke - anyway the x-factor over there might work differently to how its done in the UK and they may just stick to Australia and not travel to other countries

That means he'll have to go to auditions, comfort the ones whom didn't make it. I think once it starts, I think that maybe a good time for him to leave Home and Away as I have this feeling that he'll get more fans on X Factor than he will now as Angelo Rosetta.

The format is the same, Ronan Keating filmed judges houses in Dublin with his category last week so it would mean Luke would need to travel the world, as well as the whole of Australia. Dermot O Leary had to give up his job on Big Brother as he said he couldnt work on that as well as X Factor at same time so I imagine if Luke is asked back next year he will have to leave. I wish him all the best, it's the best presenting job to get on TV, everybody wants it!

Yes but wasn't the guy who previously presented it in Australia also in a series over there as well - Underbelly? , it sounds like from the interview that he only found out about it last week and it starts next Monday in Oz then I imagine a lot of the early audition stuff must have been filmed already along with the judges houses...maybe the presenter doesn't travel tho ?..unless the previous one did all the travelling for this one...it sounds as though they were looking for someone pretty last minute to step in...
