We started to kiss passionately and I was only just aware that Hugo, Martha, Miles and Kirsty had entered the kitchen.

“Get a room you two” I heard Miles say.

We ignored him and continued kissing each other.

“Maybe we should leave them alone” Leah suggested.

Joey pulled away from me. I looked at her as if to say why’d you stop kissing me.

“No don’t worry, we’ll go get a room” she said playfully.

I grinned and grabbed Joey’s hand as she started to pull me into my room.

“Someone’s going to get lucky” Miles said as we left the kitchen.

I popped my head back in to poke my tongue out at him. “Your just jealous” I shouted back as I started back to my room.

“Real mature Buckton” I heard him say. Though I didn’t bother replying. Joey was waiting for me on the bed.

After spending time in bed together we were just lying there peacefully. I gave her little kisses everywhere.

“You make me so happy Charlie. I’m so glad that I met you” she said.

“Aww Jo” I said touched. “You make me so happy too babe”

“I love you” Joey said.

I smiled. “I love you too” I replied.

Joey smiled. “I want to stay here all day but I need to go to the bathroom”

I laughed. “Okay. I want to see if they are still out there anyway”

We got up and I walked out into the living room.

“So you are all still here” I said. I sat down on the arm of the couch next to Kirsty.

“Did you have fun in the bedroom?” Miles asked.

“Miles!” Kirsty exclaimed. “You don’t have to answer that Charlie”

I chuckled. “Yes I did actually Miles thankyou for asking” I grinned.

‘Too much information” he groaned.

“You asked” Kirsty said.

“Charlie I haven’t seen you this happy in quite awhile” Roman said.

“Bit awkward for you mate? You know being her ex-boyfriend and all that” Miles asked.

“Mate honestly” Roman said.

“Well, I’m very happy thankyou” I replied.

“Happy with what?” Joey asked coming out of the bathroom and sitting on the other arm of the chair next to Martha.

“With you my dear” I answered.

“Would you two like to go back in the room again?” Miles asked.

I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him narrowly missing Leah in the process.

“Right that does it Buckton” Miles said.

“Oh no you don’t” I said. I got up and started to run into the kitchen. He was quicker then I thought. He grabbed me and started to tickle me.

“Copeland I’m not ticklish” I said trying to stop him.

“I think that everyone is ticklish” he said still tickling me.

I started to laugh.

“Miles you should stop now” Joey said trying to come to my rescue.

He ignored her. So I thought I’d try something.

“Please stop or else I’ll have to arrest you for harassing a cop”

He put me down. “Fine, you win” he sighed.

“Works like a charm” I said.

He started to get up again as if to chase me so I ran into the kitchen. I walked back in a second later and sat back down next to Kirsty.

“So, Charlie I hate to ask the obvious but do you think your gay now?” Martha asked.

“Yeah, I think so” I answered. Even though I wasn’t looking at Joey I could tell she was smiling so I turned to look at her and I was right.

We heard a knock at the door.

“Come in” Leah yelled to the person.

“Hi, sorry guess I should have called, didn’t realise there would be a lot of people here” Brett said.

“Brett” Joey said. “What… what are you doing here?”

“Jo can we talk?” he asked.

“Yeah, sure. Do you want to get a coffee at the diner?” Joey asked.

“Sure” he agreed.

She got up and kissed me. “See you later guys” she said.

“Who was that guy Charlie?” Roman asked.

“Joey’s brother Brett” I answered.

“I thought he didn’t like the fact that she’s gay” Leah said confused.

“That’s what I thought Leah but maybe he’s changed his mind”

“It would be good if he changed his mind. It might make things a bit easier on Joey and on you” Hugo said.

“Yeah, true” I agreed. “She has missed her brother”

I stared off into space not really listening to what the others were saying.

“Charlie” I heard Martha say and it must not have been for the first time either.

“Huh, what?” I asked coming back to earth.

“I was just going to ask what do you think of my new top” she said.

“Oh. Yeah its really nice” I said.

She laughed. “Charlie what are you thinking about. Your totally miles away” she asked.

I looked away for a moment and sighed. “Just that I wish that society would treat people the same. That it wouldn’t matter if people were gay or straight”

“Charlie you know we don’t think of you differently, that your still the same to us. We all love you” Miles assured me.

“I know. And I really, really appreciate it. I was just talking about other people”

“You can’t really change their minds though” Kirsty said.

“Yeah. I wish I could”

“Charlie you should just be happy, and stop thinking about this because it just makes you sad” Leah said.

“I am happy even beyond happy… what’s beyond happy?” I asked.

“Ecstatic?” Hugo suggested.

“Yeah, I’m ecstatic” I agreed.

Joey walked back in half an hour later. I took one look at her. I knew she had been crying.

“How did you go with your brother?” Martha asked.

“Fine” she said. “Excuse me” She went into the bathroom. We could hear her crying.

“I’ll be back” I said. I knocked on the bathroom door. “Jo, its me. Can I come in?”

She unlocked the door and I closed it behind me. To my surprise she was smiling through her tears.

“He finally has come around. He has accepted that I’m gay and even accepted that I’m with you”

“That’s great.. isn’t it?” I asked.

“Yeah, its wonderful” She said.

“So why the tears babe?”

“I guess I’m overwhelmed or something. My brother has finally accepted me for who I really am and I’m with the most amazing woman in the universe”

“I think I’m with the most amazing woman in the universe” I said.

Joey smiled. “I just never thought this would happen. Never in a million years did I think these two things would happen and to happen all at the one time. Its incredible”

“You deserve this and anything else that happens Jo. You’re a spectacular person”

“Thanks Charlie” she said giving me a hug. As I hugged her back I knew that I never wanted to let her go.

I've read it all loads of times, it's brilliant. I'm glad her brother has accepted her relationship as well now.

And no, there won't be any need for anything upsetting thank you very much. Not unless it gets less upsetting and becomes happy again.

A few months later….

I walked nervously up to Leah & Roman in the diner.

“Um you guys, can we ah can we talk for a moment?” I asked them.

“Sure Charlie, everything okay?” Leah asked.

“Yeah but not here. Can we go to your house Roman? Are Aden & Nicole home?”

“No they are out. And yes we can go to my house” he answered.

Leah & I got into Roman’s car and he drove to his house. He let us in and made some coffees. We all sat down at his table in the kitchen.

“So, Charlie you want to talk? What’s up?” He asked.

“I um. I want to use the diner. One night after close” I said.

“Okay” Leah agreed. “Can I ask what for?”

“I ah I want to ask Joey to marry me” I announced. I twirled my coffee around.

Roman leaned back in his chair. “Wow” he let out.

“Yeah I’ll say” Leah agreed.

“What else can I say? I love her. I’ve fallen hard fast and I can’t picture my life without her in it” I admitted.

“Well congratulations” Leah said.

“Thanks but she’s gotta say yes first” I replied.

“Oh I’m sure she will” Leah said.

“Really?” I asked.

“Charlie, she completely worships you. I can see the love in her eyes. She has even told me that you’re her whole life and she’d be devastated if she lost you”

I smiled at Leah. Then I looked at Roman. “Surely there’s more then a wow in there” I said.

“I can’t believe that my ex-girlfriend is marrying a girl but you know that I’m really happy for you”

“I do have another favour to ask” I said tentatively.

“Go on” Roman said.

“Would one of you be there to cook us dinner? You know how much I hate to cook” I asked. “If it’s too much trouble then forget that I asked”

“I’d love to” Roman said to my surprise.

“Thanks Roman” I replied gratefully.

“Just let me know which day and what time. And we will organise everything”

“I want it to be perfect like her. I want flowers, wine, candles and the lights to dim and..” I trailed off.

“Charlie, don’t worry. We’ve got this” Leah said.

“Thanks. Oh and can you guys keep this to yourselves?” I asked.

“Of course” Leah replied.

“This is amazing. I’m so lucky to have friends like you guys” I said.

“And don’t worry about paying for it either” Roman added.

“Really, are you sure?” I asked.

“Yeah. I know things ended badly between us but now that things are good this is a great way for me to make it up to you”

“Thankyou Roman. That’s so fantastic” I said.

“Are you going to tell Ruby?” Leah asked.

“She’s going to get another sister so yeah I will tell her tonight” I replied. “Oh and Leah. Will you be one of my bridesmaids?” I asked.

“Yes of course I will” Leah gushed.

“And come ring shopping with me?”

Leah grinned. “Sure” she replied. “When?”

“Tomorrow afternoon after my shift” I answered.

Leah looked at Roman. “Want to swap shifts?”

“I’ll do your afternoon shift” he agreed.

They kissed.

“You know I think you guys work well together” I said.
