I think I know who was sitting beside her at the end but I'm not saying, I'll wait and see if I'm right and can be all smug, if I'm wrong, I don't look stupid. Are you okay?” Ruby asked. “I’ve been better” I said. “Called Joey yet?” “Yeah I spoke to her earlier” I answered. “And you told her not to come back right?” “Rubes please” I said. “Mum its just crazy that your telling her to stay away” Ruby pointed out. “Maybe it is. But Rubes I can’t even explain it very well, but I just want her to continue what she is doing, I know she’d be here in a flash if I asked her to come back. It might be pathetic but I also don’t want her to see this weak side of me” “Mum. That’s insane. She loves you, the whole lot of you” “I know that. But that was only a tiny part of the reason. I’m proud of her, she’s doing exactly what she’s always wanted to do and I’m not going to stop her” “Okay but she’s just really worried about you” Ruby said. I smiled. “Well the next time you talk to her you can tell her that I’m going to be fine” “So I guess I’ll call her back and tell her that” “You do that daughter darling” I said. We looked at each other and laughed. “So, how about a chocolate milkshake then?” “Sure” I said. “My shout” Ruby said as we got up. “We still going to tell Colleen the truth?” I asked. “I want to. Don’t you?” “Yeah I do” I answered. “Okay, I hope she’s working today” “Leah said she was this morning” I said. We walked into the diner. “2 chocolate milkshakes thanks Colleen” Ruby said. “I’m shouting my Mum” “Your mum?” Colleen asked confused. “Yeah, my mum. Charlie” Ruby said. “What’s going on girlie?” Irene asked. “I think Ruby’s a bit confused. She’s saying Senior Constable is her mother” I could see I had to say something now. “Ruby’s not confused. It’s the truth. Ruby is my daughter” “But how?” Irene asked. “I was raped by my Dad’s friend when I was 11” I answered not wanting to into much further detail. “Leah knows what happened. She can tell you the rest whenever your working together next” “Lets sit down Mum” Ruby suggested. We sat down together but I couldn’t resist stealing a look at Colleen and Irene. I started to laugh. “What’s funny?” Ruby asked. “Colleen’s expression right now” I answered. Ruby looked and started cracking up. Xavier walked in at that moment and sat down with us. “What’s so funny?” He asked us. Ruby laughed even more. ”We told Colleen the truth about us and her expression……” I answered. “So funny” Ruby finished off. “Here you go girls” Irene said giving us our milkshakes. “What can I get you Xav?” “I’ll have a chocolate milkshake too thanks Irene” he answered. “I’ll have one too thanks Irene” Jai said coming up to us. “So what’s new?” “Charlie’s my mother” Ruby told him. “How?” Jai asked. “I was raped when I was 11” I answered. “Oh, I’m sorry Charlie. That must have been tough” he said. “Yeah it really was” I agreed. Ruby looked over at me and squeezed my hand. I smiled at her. Annie, Geoff and Nicole walked in. “What’s going on?” Nicole asked us. “Charlie’s my Mum. She was raped when she was 11” she answered. “Are you for real?” Nicole asked. “Yeah it’s the truth” I said. “Wow” Annie said. “Does Joey know?” Geoff asked. “Of course” I nodded. “Maybe you guys should stop asking questions” Jai said. “No its okay Jai, I kinda expected it anyway. It feels good just telling people about it now. And I really hope that this doesn’t affect your relationship with Ruby in any way” I said. “Of course not, why would it? Your still the same people” Nicole said. “Thanks Nic. That means a lot” Ruby said. I had finished my milkshake. “I’m going to go. Remember Rubes, dinner at 7” I said. “Yeah, no worries” she said. So, hands up, who guessed it was Ruby at the Pier with Charlie or did ya all think it was Joey? EDIT - Don't know why there appears to be squares instead of ". Weird.
