Home & Away kiss cut

I have no words to describe how gutted I am about this news. What makes me even more disappointed is that they will be 'dumbing' down this storyline, which has been the best out of all of them at the moment, yet we had the whole Freya/Nicole kiss which felt like a bad porn movie and had no feeling.

Having lived in both the UK and Australia I have to say that sadly I find my home country to be far more homophobic at a grass roots level than the UK. This would never have happened in the UK, there may have been a few complaints, but the BBC and the ITV networks would have stood their ground and the majority would have been able to enjoy the programme uncensored as a result of the views of a very small but vocal minority. As a psychiatrist, as a mother and as a concerned citizen I think that caving into to this sort of blackmail, and blackmail is exactly what it is, is playing into the hands of narrow minded bigots and is an extremely dangerous precedent to set. As the mother of a small daughter and two teenage boys I have no problem with them watching this, nor do I suspect do most right thinking people. To assume, as the narrow minded do, that watching a TV programme where two girls fall in love, and heaven forbid, they actually kiss, is somehow corruptive, is to put oneself back in the dark ages. There really are a lot of people like Joey's brother Brett alive and kicking and on the telephone to Channel Seven. I am appalled that Channel Seven reacted in a way which lacks integrity and which is also cowardly. Integrity is doing the right thing even if there is nobody watching on Tuesday night (which I very much doubt – because people being what they are will be tuning in in their droves regardless, and I was going to put money on Tuesday being the highest of the week!)

I suggest we counter the organized vocal minority movement by outnumbering their outraged telephone calls to the network with a far greater number of outraged e mails and telephone calls ourselves. Put people power back where it should be, with the majority.

So I'm not allowed to laugh at CED's joke (perhaps unintentional)?

It was intentional.

John003au: I found Neighbours' handling of the issue to be exceptional personally. Low key, natural and the Lana character was well written. Since Sky wasn't a lesbian, they never explored the trials and tribulations of a lesbian relationship but the hardships Lana faced at school and the playground homophobia was very realistic. My only criticism was that they didn't keep her around as a regular.

At least they aired the kiss. I'm shocked that Seven gave in like this. Not altogether surprising because the network never seemed overly keen on having a gay relationship portrayed on the show and with such a ridiculous overreaction by sectors of the public its not hard to see why.

I agree with you about the school and playground homophobia in Neighbours, that was well done.

My feeling with the Home and Away storyline is that they have done the personal awakening of lesbian feelings in Charlie so well and so sensitively that it is such a shame that they have now "pulled back" from going any further. I'm not "starry eyed" about gay relationships. We deal with them at our Counselling Centre and I know they can have their toxic break ups and vicious wars over property settlement just like straight ones. But this Charlie/Joey relationship really showed the caring, tender side of the gay relationship at its best. That is not something society ( or the parts of it I move in ) knows very well. It's a real shame it is not being explored further.

Its going to backfire on them. I mean, either way you look at it, its going to look bad on Home & Away's part. To the idiotic people who complained about it looks 'bad' and 'unappropiate' for them to do the storyline, and to most of us it looks like they are homophobic. Way to go Home & Away, your surely going to win a Logie now. <_<-_-

Right everyone, I have 100% confirmation, from an inside source, that these articles are complete and utter bulls**t.

Joey and Charlie DO kiss in Tuesday's episode. It has NOT been cut.

It can now be understood exactly why Seven do not attempt these type of stories that often, as the hysteria surrounding it just is not worth it. This article was just yet another beat up.

Thank you thank you thank you. It is the most read news story on news.com.au I hope the ratings rocket on Tuesday and it will show Angela Conway and all those other ignorant bas****s where to go.
