My first script is nearly finished - didn't turn out quite as expected, but it's great trying to see through the eyes of a scriptwriter!

Nervewracking too, even though it's for a competition not screening :D I'm afraid that it reads a bit more boring than I wanted though!

One question - when it says end on a cliff-hanger, you mean so that the audience won't know precisely what's coming next, right?

[just verifying]

A cliffhanger or cliffhanger ending is a device where for example one or more of the characters is in a precarious or difficult dilemma, or confronted with a shocking revelation. This can literally be a physical cliffie such as Roman dangling from a cliff courtesy of Elliott, someone dropping in some damning information such as "Leah VJ isn't yours there was a mistake at the hospaital" - then the credits roll etc....

The point of a cliffhanger is to get people tuning in again to find out what happens next. Did Roman fall off the rope, is VJ really VJ ? That sort of thing. So it's all about building up suspense to something, be it the reveal of information so that people come back for more, or the tension in the drama in a conflict situation such as the Roman and Elliott ones, so that again they come back for more. I hope that helps.

Ok, gotcha thank you :D

And one more question -

Do we assume that the entire episode would end at that point? ie that at the cliff hanging moment, the credits will start rolling and the promo for the next day's episode appears?

i'm pretty sure that's a yes, but again, better safe than sorry :)

I wasn't going to enter this year, but I'm on holiday, staying up late, and I've just knocked together some dialogue, so hopefully I can flesh out the directions in the next couple of days and get an entry in. It's always good to get professional feedback - it's very exciting :)

I've finished my script, finally! It's a bit bad, it was really difficult to keep in character. But I suppose that's for the judges to decide. :D I'll send it in shortly, just a question, i couldnt seem to find the answer anywhere - in the email, to we send the one document with teh entry from, summary, and scene, or all seperate documents, orr something completely different? Answers probably very obvious :P

It doesn't really matter - what most people do is put their entry form in the body of the email and just have their script document attached. :)
