Morag Bellingham - Cornelia Frances

so are you saying splitting Alf up from his daughter and later his son by conniving ways was just her being cold. And I suppose what she did to Nigel was just cold too. And then plotting to destroy frank and bobbys marriage for revenge. Cold. I'd say twisted and a compulsive lyer. And the way she treated Celia? And out and out bully. Yes there is another side to her and I'm sure sometimes she is genuine in her feelings but they way she treated Bobby was awful. And most of the genuine times is when she's feeling sorry for herself for being lonely etc. And possible when Alf was ill in 2003

In the early years Morag was a cruel, nasty character who enjoyed making life unpleasant for others, but she was brilliant to watch and made the show exciting. In some ways she was most villainous character the show has ever had, not including psychos and thugs. Donald once described her as "the most despicable, vindictive, venomous woman I've ever had the misfortune to meet". :D

I switched off every time she was on screen in those times. I remember once I didn't watch the show for about 6 months because she was in it....

But then she became more watchable and more like a person and less like a cartoon villain, but still with a sharp side  - and I started to love her. A lot of the women on the show are a bit too weak in my opinion. So it is great to have someone like her on the show. She normally acts like a normal person would do.

I think the reason she didn't last a permanent character in 1989 is that the writers actually made her too nasty. Jodlebirger is right she was a bit like a cartoonish villain at times. She was just downright horrible to everyone, and there wasn't really anything they could do with her character once she had alienated everyone so much that nobody wanted to socialise with her.

Even in 1989 they did show that she had other sides to her character, as well as numerous scenes explaining that the reason she was so mean is because she was damaged/needed help. So I don't completely understand why the writers never went down that route instead of writing her into a corner.

Oh, I definitely agree with that - but in the way she wasn't the most, she was second to none other than Angela Russell (possibly explaining why they clash - too similar :P)

Morag would be at the top of the list of H&A bad girls over the years, with Angie Russell coming second, others would be Alison Patterson, the original Roo Stewart and Lois Crawford.

I don't think Morag has ever killed someone or messed with someone's mind so I think Angie would be before Morag.

I always wondered where they would have taken Morag's character had she stayed past 1989.

I have feeling they would slowly softened her character, having her become friends with Pippa, and I always thought a friendship with Sally might have been interesting like Max and Colleen's friendship in the 2000s.
