The Movie Thread 2: The Plot

Seeing as we're all moaning about movies in the main movie thread, thought i'd start one to prove that we can come up with a better plot than hollywood.

Only thing that is known about this is that it's a horror film, first in a franchise (there's no such thing as a standalone film) and i'm setting it in a seaside university.

Anyone want to come forward with characters? locations of killings etc?

I demand that Chris Hemsworth and Jason Smith are in it. I always thought I'd want Isabel Lucas in a horror movie too, but I'd be willing to switch her out for Rachael Taylor. Rachel has a good sci-fi/horror reputation already, and is pretty. Um, I mean... she's a great actress...

I think the first thing to decide when writing a horror movie is whether it's going to be psychological, slasher, or sci-fi. Slasher seems to be the most popular these days, ie, some weirdo decides to start butchering a group of pretty young teens for some reason or another. But to make that interesting, the weirdo can actually be a psycho with a proper motive, and proper strategies of revenge that go further than grabbing the nearest tool of destruction and laying waste to the enemy. "Fear" would be a good example of something I'd consider psychological - there were a lot of head games going on. Then there is sci-fi - the paranormal. Ghosts, demons, possessions, werewolves, vampires, zombies, mummies, curses, aliens, psychic visions, etc. This one might sound silly, but there are people like myself who still enjoy a good creature film, or an exploration of the supernatural, over the latest random serial killer.

There is also the branch of sci-fi that deals with technology, that would be things like robots and super-viruses, both biological and technological (so either a virus that attacks you and makes you go crazy and then die, or else a virus that attacks your computer and appliances, and somehow gives them a mind of their own, and the apparent need to kill you...)

There are so many different styles of Horror you could use, so I guess then the first question really must be, what do you want the point of this movie to be? Is it -

- "Beware of other people"

- "Beware of the things you don't understand"

- "Beware of playing god"

- "Beware of your own thoughts and deeds"

The running theme in most Horror movies seems to be that our actions have consequences, whether we're naively trusting people we shouldn't, or thinking it's fun to summon ghosts on a Ouija board, or thinking that our technology has surpassed the designs of nature/God and that will make us safe. Ignorance is the key to Horror. Even if a character knows what's going on, the majority have to be treating them like they're a crazy fool. Until the situation escalates and the problem becomes undeniable to all involved. Therein lies the game...

So then, I would like to go for "Beware of the things you don't understand." Supernatural paranormal creatures and curses and stuff :D. Chris can play the typical, buff, heroic lead, and Jason can be his comic-relief sidekick who of course ends up proving his worth by saving the hero from certain death and everyone says how great he is ^_^

Rachael will be the obligatory sexy blonde girl who runs and screams a lot, but because she's so cool, I have no doubt she will be kicking some ass too  Speaking of kicking ass, can we get Lucy Lawless involved in this? Lets get Lucy Lawless involved in this. I saw her on Burn Notice the other night. She looked like Patricia Arquette, but she's still got it. Ooh there's an idea, Lucy Lawless AND Patricia Arquette. They could be sisters! They could be RACHAEL'S sisters! Or aunts!! It's all falling into place...

Horror is such a delightful genre ^_^

unfortuntly 2 hours of Jensen and Jared walking round in towels that slowly get lower and lower then maybe fall down, isn't much better plot wise than what's already out there

We could be subtle about it. Lots of shower scenes, and a few dropped towels, totally by accident. It's not pornographic if it's not presented in a sexual context and they just happen to be showering naked and then accidentally drop their towels when getting out. It's perfectly natural. Of course the same would apply for Chris and Jason, except that their characters would be accidentally tripping into each others arms and such. Totally by accident, of course.

That's some brilliant wording right there!

OK, I believe all the best horror movies have some sort of cannibalism, some ritualistic stuff, lots of blood and gore, and a creepy child. I vote that the creepy child is Freddie Highmore, because he is AWESOME. And he is creepy because ... uh ... maybe he just continually turns up in odd places, because there's a twist at the end that involves him, but I'm not sure what.

How about if Rachael, Patricia and Lucy are a coven of witches ... CANNIBALISTIC witches that are targeting a nudist resort, in which live Jensen, Jared, Chris and Jason. So they're just naked all the time. And the witches kill people in a very intricate ceremony that involves sacrificing goats and painting pentacles in their blood, and then drinking the blood of a virgin before killing their prey. And they're targeting the nudist resort because the girlfriends of the four boys decided to dabble with the paranormal and accidentally unlocked ... Freddie, the child that the witches have been holding hostage for years because he is the key to the destruction of the human race, and they just need to wait until that happens so they can have a veritable smorgasboard of human flesh.

And there's lots of gratuitous killing and nudity.

That sounds like a plot right there!

Freddie Highmore creeps the HECK out of me! I... sometimes can't look at him... so I guess if we're looking for the freakiest evil creepy looking kid there is... he'd be great

Perfect :)
