Main Characters: Geoff, Aden plus Tony and Rachel Is the story being proof read? No Any warnings: Slight Sexual Content Summary It's Tricky Part I: Geoff plays footy with Aden and a couple of the boys and things look great when Aden befriends him afterwards, but Aden's homelife isn't so great. It's a good thing he has friend's like Geoff. But Geoff as Geoff questions not only his own sexuality but Aden's as well can he be there for him? Also Tony finds it hard to ask Rachel on a date. New Character: KENNY MACINTOSH- 15 year old Kenny Macintosh is a good friend of Aden Jeffries despite his mother's objections. Although he has got into mischief in the past he isn't a bad kid, more misguided. His religious mother hasn't given him the best homelife and with his older brother on operation in Afghanistan, Kenny has to be the man of the house. CHARACTERS: ADEN, KENNY, LUCAS, GEOFF, MATILDA, TONY, BELLE, ANNIE, IRENE, JACK, SALLY, RACHEL. EXT. RUGBY FIELD - DAY ADEN, GEOFF, LUCAS, KENNY ADEN kicks a Rugby ball to the other side of the field, KENNY who is closest to it chases after it and picks it up. He starts to run for the try line. ADEN gets closer to him and looks as if he's about to tackle him, he's the ony person in his way but as ADEN takes a leap for him, KENNY passes the ball to LUCAS who runs to score a try under the goal posts. KENNY catches up to LUCAS and gives him a HIGH FIVE. KENNY Nice one mate! LUCAS Hey you're the one who set it up. Both KENNY and LUCAS are shirtless. ADEN who represents the "shirts" side is on the ground - face in dirt! He quickly gets up and CHUCKLES to hide his own embarrassment. ADEN Well done guys. KENNY Did you hear that Holden? I think that was a well done. LUCAS It sounded like a well done but I wouldn't expect one coming from Jeffries. KENNY Maybe we should get him to say it again, just to be sure. ANGLE ON GEOFF -- As he walks by the field, he notices the boys and stops to watch them. BACK ON BOYS -- ADEN Don't push it, it's not like it's fair anyway it's two against one. LUCAS Wait- didn't you say before that 'I'm better then the two of you combined.' ADEN laughs before nodding. He looked down at his shirt- ripped and dirty. ADEN And now my shirt is ruined... KENNY (SARCASM) AWWW! ANGLE ON GEOFF -- As he leans against the fence- still watching. CLOSE ON ADEN (GEOFF'S POV) As he pulls his shirt off, reavealing his fit and sweaty body. ANGLE ON GEOFF -- A slight smile. BACK ON ADEN -- As he runs to the fence, close to where GEOFF is standing and hangs his shirt up. He notices GEOFF looking at him. ADEN What are you staring at Campbell? ADEN laughs. LUCAS & KENNY walk over to the two boys. ADEN See anything you like? GEOFF shakes his head looking embarrassed. ADEN laughs again. ADEN Relax Campbell- I'm joking. LUCAS Did you want to play? GEOFF Ah- um... KENNY You can be on Aden's team- he needs or the help he can get! ADEN Hey! GEOFF Uh okay! He jumps the fence. KENNY passes him the football. And the boys run eagerly back on the field. ADEN Hey wait. The boys stop to look at ADEN. ADEN Shirt off Campbell! GEOFF Wh... what for? ADEN Because my shirt just got ripped so its time these two boys be shirts and get theirs ripped. GEOFF starts unbuttoning his shirt, while KENNY & LUCAS walk away to get theirs. GEOFF pulls his shirt off. ANGLE ON ADEN-- As he gives GEOFF a quick glance. BACK ON GEOFF- As he gives an embarrassed smile. DISSOLVE TO: OPENING CREDITS DISSOLVE TO: INT. HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY TONY, MATILDA TONY paces by the phone. He then stops picks it up. begins to dial a few numbers and then hangs up. He repeats this once more when MATILDA walks in. MATILDA Your using it wrong. TONY What? MATILDA Your suppose to put it to your ear and talk. TONY Oh... Uh... Just can't work out what to say. MATILDA Well you start with a hello and end with a goodbye. What happens in the middle depends on what you're calling for. TONY Thanks. MATILDA So who are you calling? TONY Nobody. MATILDA looks at him and smiles. MATILDA What's her name? TONY Um... Okay I'll tell you but don't laugh! MATILDA Cross my heart. TONY It's Rachel! MATILDA does well to stop the laughter escaping. MATILDA And you're going to do it by phone? TONY Well... Uh... MATILDA pushes him to the door. MATILDA Go next door and ask her out properly. SHE successfully pushes him outside, TONY stands at the door a little surprised by her actions. EXT. BEACH HOUSE - DAY ADEN, GEOFF ADEN and GEOFF talk as they arrive onto the lawn, their shirts hanging over their shoulders. Both boys are covered in dirt and grass. ADEN ...Dude you were unreal! I can't believe we flogged them by like that much. GEOFF Well I couldn't have done it without you! ADEN Well that's true. The two boys laugh. ADEN No but seriously dude- you did well, you gave me some of my cred back. They arrive at the front door. ADEN I'll see you around. He gives GEOFF a friendly pat on the shoulder. GEOFF looks down at ADEN'S hand as it touches him. When ADEN notices GEOFF'S glance he quickly takes his hand away. GEOFF Did you want to come in... Stay for tea, I'm sure Iene won't mind. ADEN smiled. ADEN I would like that but I have to head home- Dad will have dinner waiting for me there. GEOFF Another time then. ADEN Yup! GEOFF watches as ADEN walks away. When he escapes his sight he walks inside. INT. BEACH HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY (CONT'D) GEOFF, IRENE, BELLE, ANNIE GEOFF walks into the house, BELLE & ANNIE are on the lounge watching television. BELLE He's home! ANNIE Hi. GEOFF Hey, where's Irene? IRENE (OOV) In here love. GEOFF walks over to the kitchen to find IRENE stirring some bolognese. GEOFF Did you need a hand? IRENE Alas, I've found my saviour. It's just a pity others aren't as willing to help. BELLE & ANNIE look at each other and smile innocently. GEOFF What can I do? IRENE You can help me stir this while... She stops and notices how dirty he is. IRENE ...Showering. I thought you went for a walk not a dig. GEOFF I played footy with Aden and the others. IRENE Aden? I thought you two weren't exactly bestfriends. GEOFF Me too, but I was watching him play and the teams were uneven and they asked me to join in. We were talking after the game and you know he's not that bad. IRENE Well just be careful. GEOFF Of what? IRENE How's this? After dinner we'll go down to the video store and we'll hire Carrie? GEOFF Um okay. IRENE Now get in that shower boy! GEOFF smiles and heads to the bathroom. INT. BATHROOM - DAY GEOFF, ADEN GEOFF turns the handles and lets the water fall down onto his face. He goes to grab the bar of soap on the dispensor but somebody else beats him to it. GEOFF turns around. ADEN joins him in the shower. ADEN begins to wash GEOFF who turns his back to him. He closes his eyes and lets the water soak his face. He then opens his eyes turns around. ADEN is gone. He collapses into the tub below and begins to cry. EXT. RACHEL/JACK'S HOUSE - DAY TONY, JACK TONY walks up to the door, he's about to knock but stops himself. He waits a bit and starts to walk away when the door opens. TONY turns around as JACK walks out of the house in his uniform. JACK Dad? TONY Jack um... Hi. JACK Hi? What's up? TONY Would uh... hmmm... Would Rachel be home by any chance? JACK Um no she's at work why? Is everything alright? TONY Yeah ah everything's fine... It's just ah... Never mind. JACK Okay? TONY leaves the porch leaving JACK very confused. INT. SUMMER BAY HIGH SCHOOL - HALL - NIGHT GEOFF, BELLE, ADEN, SALLY, MATILDA, KENNY, IRENE'S VOICE, (10+ EXTRAS) MUSIC is playing GEOFF and BELLE are dancing on the dance floor, they look like they are having a great time. The MUSIC stops. SALLY walks onto the stage. SALLY Okay guys, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. Time we anounce SUMMER BAY HIGH'S Class of 2008 KING and QUEEN. EVERYONE applauds. MATILDA taps GEOFF on the shoulder. MATILDA Good luck. GEOFF What for? Who'd vote for me? KENNY who is holding MATILDA'S hand leans towards GEOFF to whisper inh his ear. KENNY (WHISPERING) You'd be surprised. He gestures for Geoff to look towards the side of the stage. ANGLE ON ADEN looking at GEOFF with a forced smile. ANGLE ON SALLY as she opens an envelope. SALLY Summer Bay High's KING is ADEN JEFFRIES Everyone claps and cheers as ADEN gets up and accepts his crown. SALLY And your QUEEN for 2008 is... GEOFF looks to BELLE and smiles, BELLE looks up at him shaking her head. A tear comes to her eye. SALLY GEOFF CAMPBELL IRENE (VO) They're all going to laugh at you! LAUGHTER IS HEARD throughout. ANGLE ON GEOFF Total embarrassment. THE SOUND OF KNOCKING is heard. INT. GEOFF'S BEDROOM - NIGHT GEOFF, ADEN GEOFF jumps out of bed, sweating from the embarrasment he experienced in the dream. The KNOCKING can still be heard. ADEN (OOV) Campbell, it's me Aden! GEOFF realises where the knocking is coming from and opens the window for him. GEOFF Aden? What are you doing here? ADEN falls into the room. GEOFF holds his arm out to help ADEN get up. ADEN takes his hand and stands up. A HUGE BRUISE covers ADEN'S eye. GEOFF What happened? ADEN I had a fight with my dad he won... Can I stay here? GEOFF Your dad punched you? ADEN nodded. GEOFF Are you okay? Did you call the police? ADEN shook his head. ADEN I just to need to crash. Is that okay? GEOFF Why here? ADEN shrugged. GEOFF Stay in my bed, I'll sleep on the lounge. ADEN I can't kick you out of your own bed. GEOFF I don't know what Irene will say if she woke up to see you sleeping on the lounge. ADEN Oh! But what is she going to say to you sleeping on the lounge? GEOFF It's only a single bed. ADEN I won't take up much room. ADEN then takes his shirt off and jumps straight into the single bed. He pulls the quilt open for GEOFF to join him. GEOFF takes a moment to think about it. He then slowly joins him in the bed. Pulling the quilt over him. ADEN looks to GEOFF and smiles. GEOFF looks back to ADEN and returns the smile before quickly turning away from him and shutting his eyes. ON ADEN as he looks confused. EXT. BEACH HOUSE - DAY NEIGHBOUR A newspaper is thrown and lands on the lawn. The paper is grabbed by an OLD GENTLEMAN and he takes it to the house next door, his home. INT. BEACH HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY IRENE, BELLE, BELLE walks out of room in her pyjamas, IRENE sits at the dining table with a cup of coffee. IRENE Morning Love. BELLE wipes her eyes. BELLE Hmm. IRENE Sleep well? BELLE Hmm. IRENE That's good. BELLE Shower free? IRENE shakes her head. IRENE Annie's in there. Getting ready for church that reminds me can you wake Geoff up. I'm going to get the paper. BELLE Uh huh. INT. GEOFF'S BEDROOM - DAY GEOFF, ADEN, BELLE GEOFF lays in bed with his arm around ADEN, a smile on his face. A KNOCK IS HEARD. BELLE (OOV) Geoff! ADEN and GEOFF wake up, GEOFF realises that his arm is around ADEN and quickly takes it away. ANGLE ON DOOR As the handle turns and it begins to open ANGLE ON GEOFF AND ADEN GEOFF looks at ADEN wide-eyed. ADEN What's the problem? Thinking quickly GEOFF pushes ADEN off the bed and ADEN falls out of sight just as BELLE walks in. BELLE You have to get ready for church. GEOFF sighs. GEOFF Okay thanks. BELLE leaves closing the door behind her. ADEN gets up off the ground. ADEN What was that about? GEOFF I... Um... ADEN I better leave! ADEN searches the room for his shirt. GEOFF I'm sorry... I... ADEN Yeah! He finds his shirt and goes to the window. GEOFF Where are you going? ADEN shrugs before leaving the room through the window. EXT. BEACH HOUSE - DAY IRENE, ADEN, GEOFF IRENE searches through her bushes beside her house as ADEN, still shirtless walks past her. IRENE gets up from out of the scrubs and jumps in fright when she spots him. IRENE Gawd save Ireland, where the blue blazes did you come from? ADEN ignores her and walks past. IRENE Oi? ADEN keeps walking, GEOFF comes from the front door. GEOFF Aden! ADEN stops and puts his shirt on. ADEN I have to go. GEOFF Why? ADEN You don't want me here. GEOFF Why do you think that? ADEN You pushed me out of bed. GEOFF Because I didn't want Belle to think we... uh... you know? ADEN So what? We didn't! GEOFF I know it's just I don't want her to think I'm... ADEN Gay? GEOFF nods. ADEN Well are you? GEOFF stays silent. ADEN waits for an answer. GEOFF I have to get ready for church. Aden shakes his head walks away. INT. BEACH HOUSE - DAY IRENE, BELLE, GEOFF IRENE walks inside, BELLE is watching cartoons on television. IRENE Well I couldn't find the paper. BELLE Again? You should ring up and complain. IRENE Yeah but I will tell you what I did find. BELLE What's that? IRENE Aden Jeffries! BELLE Did he take the paper? IRENE Oh don't play stupid, I'm not falling for it. BELLE Irene? What are you on about? IRENE You slept with him lastnight in your room. BELLE choked with laughter. BELLE No we slept together in the backyard below the flying pigs. GEOFF walks in without being noticed by Belle or Irene. IRENE Huh? So you didn't spend the night with Aden. BELLE No Irene I didn't spend the night with Aden. IRENE Well why was he sneaking out of the house? GEOFF Because he stayed in my room. ANGLE ON BELLE As she looks intrigued. ANGLE ON IRENE As she looks shocked. EXT. SUMMER BAY BEACH - DAY ADEN, LUCAS, TONY, RACHEL LUCAS walks out of the water holding his surfboard when he spots ADEN sitting in the sand with his head between his knees. LUCAS walks to him. LUCAS You're up early. ADEN ignores him. LUCAS Oh, so it's like that today is it? ADEN looks out to sea, LUCAS drops his board and seats down next to him. LUCAS What happened to your eye? ADEN ignores the question, preferring to play with the sand instead. LUCAS I'm heading back to the city today. ADEN Great! LUCAS Oh he speaks- ADEN Holden I'm not in the mood. I just want to sit here and enjoy the... ANGLE OUT TO SEA-- That stretches to infinity. ADEN (CONT'D) ...Freedom! LUCAS Who hit you? ADEN Your mum! LUCAS stands up, grabs his surfboard and walks away from ADEN. ADEN continues to look out to "FREEDOM" ANGLE ON TONY as he jogs past... He keeps jogging until he notices someone walking, He catches up to them. TONY Morning walk? RACHEL nods. RACHEL Morning jog? TONY Yeah! RACHEL Jack said you wanted to see me yesterday? TONY What? Um no everything's fine I figured it out. RACHEL You sure? TONY Yeah. Enjoy your walk! RACHEL Okay, enjoy your jog! TONY I will! He continues to jog, RACHEL keeps walking. TONY stops jogging for a moment to look back at RACHEL. EXT. CHURCH - DAY GEOFF, ANNIE, KENNY, (10+ EXTRAS) GEOFF, ANNIE & KENNY have just left the building after service. Church goers hang around and chat. GEOFF, ANNIE & KENNY walk away from the small crowd. KENNY Well that was a moving service. GEOFF Well the new Reverand has a lot of enthusiasm. KENNY He speaks so loudly I can still hear him talking in my head. GEOFF He's just making sure he's getting the point across. KENNY Yeah across to China. ANNIE My ears hurt. GEOFF We'll sit further back next time. KENNY Yeah or bring ear plugs. GEOFF Shhh! GEOFF waves to the people at church and the 3 teenagers begin to walk home. ANNIE I can't believe Aden Jeffries stayed over all night. GEOFF Annie! KENNY Aden stayed at your place? GEOFF nods KENNY Why? GEOFF He had an arguement with his father but don't tell him I told you. KENNY Oh that explains why he called my house lastnight. GEOFF He called you? KENNY Yeah but mum answered and she doesn't like me hanging around with him. If I knew he was having problems though. GEOFF Has he ever stayed at your place? KENNY Mum wouldn't let him. I stayed at his place once a few years ago, his father is real strict like Platoon Sargeant strict. I actually think his father was in the Army. ANGLE ON GEOFF As he takes the information in. INT. HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY TONY, MATILDA MATILDA sits at the table eating cereal. TONY walks in and drops a newspaper onto the table. TONY There you go! MATILDA There what goes? TONY The paper. MATILDA I didn't want the paper. TONY What did you want? MATILDA Bread for toast. TONY Oh sorry. MATILDA Why would I want the paper? I can't eat the paper. TONY You could but it wouldn't taste too nice. I'm sorry I ran into Rachel on my way to the shop. MATILDA And? TONY And what? MATILDA What did she say? TONY Not much. MATILDA What? You did ask her out didn't you? TONY Not so much no. MATILDA Why not? TONY I don't know it's just hard. MATILDA You didn't seem to have that problem before... (Beat) I'm sorry. TONY Nah, it's okay. I guess I didn't have that problem before because I didn't really care for those girls- I was just looking for a reason to be happy. MATILDA And with Rachel? TONY Well I'm already happy for the first time since your mother died. MATILDA But Rachel can make you happier. Tony nods. MATILDA Just ask her out get it over with! Be happier you deserve it! ANGLE ON TONY As he realises MATILDA has a point. EXT. RACHEL/JACK'S HOUSE - DAY TONY, RACHEL TONY knocks on the door eagerly. RACHEL answers. RACHEL Tony? TONY You know I lied earlier there was something. RACHEL Okay? TONY It's stupid I know but I need to ask you otherwise I'll never know and then I will be more strange then what I am now. RACHEL Tony what is it? TONY Sorry I am being strange. RACHEL Very! TONY I'm sorry! I'm sorry for saying sorry a lot! It's just I wanted to know if you'll go out to dinner with me. RACHEL looks surprised. TONY I'm sorry, don't worry I'll leave. TONY starts to walk away. RACHEL Tony... I will be happy to go to dinner with you. TONY looks back at her. TONY You will? RACHEL nods. TONY smiles. INT. DINER - DAY GEOFF, IRENE, ADEN ADEN walks into the Diner and takes a seat. IRENE spots him and walks over to him. IRENE So you stay at my house last night without letting me know and then have the nerve to waltz into here... ADEN Campbell tell you did he? Did he tell you the whole story? IRENE He told me enough! ADEN I had nowhere else to go. IRENE And why do you think that is? ADEN Save me the lecture I just want something to eat. IRENE Where do you plan on staying tonight? GEOFF (OOV) With us... He sits down at the table. GEOFF If it's okay with you Irene. IRENE shrugs. ADEN It's fine, I've got a friend in the city I may stay with. GEOFF What about school? ADEN shrugs. IRENE You can stay with us, until you sort all this mess out at home. ADEN Why? IRENE What other choice have you got? ADEN No why are you helping me? I've been horrible. IRENE Well that's an understatement. GEOFF I don't know why I want to help... My faith probably, but maybe it's something else. Maybe its because I know somewhere inside you there's some good. ANGLE ON ADEN as he laughs it off. ADEN Okay I will stay but tonight you can sleep on the lounge... You snore way too loud. GEOFF laughs. FREEZE ON HIM! FADEOUT! THE END! Drew Posted March 25, 2008 Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 Gotta love Aden/Geoff Good start, getting all the stories established and etc. Few of the characters had a few good lines in there, they made me laugh. And I also loved Geoff's allusions with Aden in the shower with him and Geoff and Aden being crowned the king and queen of SBH The old man stealing the paper was random reminded me of something I wrote similar like that awhile ago haha.
