In that context, it is somewhat appropriate to say "just happened" It's slightly more complicated than that.She wasn't infertile or anything but she had a weak heart from a childhood bout of rheumatic fever that meant a pregnancy could be dangerous, so she and Tom decided not to risk it.Then, of course, Christopher happened.And by the time of Dale, inappropriate or not, that was the way it was presented: It was an unplanned pregnancy that everyone was happy about and, aside from one very ambiguous throwaway comment, there was no mention of any health troubles. Well, that one was at least explained: Tom had a vasectomy so there wouldn't be any accidents but it reversed itself without them knowing.
