Lyrics from Happy by Hilary Duff

Jack was sitting on the couch, thinking. He was about to make one of the most important decisions in his life. He was going to end things with Sam. Sam came in the door, knowing nothing about what Jack was about to do.

”Hi babe, how have your day been?” Sam said.

Jack got up and looked deeply into Sam eyes.

”Sam, I can’t do this anymore.”

”What do you mean?”

”I can’t be with you anymore. I need to find the real me and I can’t do that while I’m with you.”

Sam looked shocked at Jack as he left. She couldn’t believe it. Was it really over?

Jack walked over to Martha’s place. Martha was relaxing when Jack came in.

”Martha I need to talk to you.”

”What’s wrong?”

”I realised that I need you. That I want you.”

Martha looked shocked at Jack.

”What?”

Jack was confused. Didn’t she want him?

”I love you. I want to try again.”

”No, Jack I can’t do this! When I’m finally over you, you show up and tell me that you love me?”

Jack expected that she was going to cry, but she didn’t.

I understand why you're looking for tears in my eyes,

Trust me they were there but now the well has run dry,

I was in so deep, I couldn't get out

I sat on feelings that I buried deep down

I knew there come a day when our paths would cross

And I'm glad it's today 'cause now I am strong

Jack was sitting in the sand on the beach. He couldn’t believe that Martha had kicked him out of the appartment. He was surprised that Martha could be so strong. He was also sad that she didn’t want to try again.

Martha was walking back and forth on the floor, thinking about what Jack had said. For some reason she was smiling. She had stood up for herself and turned Jack down. After all the pain he had put her through, she wasn’t ready to put her heart back out there.

I'm happy and I can thank myself

If it were up to you I'd be in my bed crying

But I'm happy, and I know that makes you sad

After all the things you put me through

I'm finally getting over you

She knew she had to explain to Jack, so she went to look for him. She found him down at the beach.

”Hi.” She said and sat down next to him.

”Hi.” He replied.

Jack wasn’t in the mood to talk.

”Look, I owe you an explanation.”

”Yes you do. I thought you wanted to be with me. I ended things with Sam just for you!”

”I know, but if you see it from my point of view, can you blame me? We have been through so much together. You broke my heart when you got back together with Sam. My heart has just healed. I’m not ready to put my heart back out there. You chose Sam over me, now you have to deal with that.”

”But…”

”No buts Jack. It’s over between us.”

She got up and left Jack on the beach, heartbroken.

There's a reason why we met and I'm glad that we did, yeah yeah

But when we broke up I got back a part of me I really missed

Not saying that you brought me down all the time

There were moments I lived without light on my side

Jack arrived at the Diner and sat down to think about what Martha had said to him. Then Kim came in and saw Jack and walked over to him.

”Yo, what’s up?” He said as he sat down.

Jack didn’t answer.

”Hey, earth to Jack, can you hear me?”

”Oh sorry, I’m just not myself.”

”I can tell. What’s wrong?”

”It’s over between Martha and I, once and for all.”

”I’m sorry to hear that, mate.”

”Me too. You know, I really thought Martha and I was meant to be. I guess I was getting my hopes up for nothing.” Jack said and looked out the window.

Martha took up her wedding photo and tore it apart. She threw the photo in the garbage and sighed. At last, all the heartache and pain was gone. It was finally over.

All the bitterness has passed

And I only wish you someone who can do what I can't
