/\ Thank you!!

Okay here is the next part:

FLETCHER HOUSE:

In the kitchen. Brad, Pippa, Sally, Cassie, Rocco and Ric are sitting at the kitchen table. Kayla comes in, wearing her school uniform with a white long sleeved top under it.

BRAD:

First day of school! Are you ready?

KAYLA:

I'm not six.

SALLY:

It's going to get pretty hot today. You sure you want to keep the sleeves?

KAYLA:

I always wear sleeves.

BRAD:

Really? Why?

KAYLA:

Because I want to.

BRAD:

Yeah, it's not exactly school uniform you know.

KAYLA:

You can't make me lose the sleeves! I want to wear it like this!

BRAD:

Excuse me, keep your temper in please!

KAYLA:

DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!

BRAD:

I'm your father, I have the right to do that!

KAYLA:

You think you can just show up after seventeen years and suddenly be a dad to me?

BRAD:

It's not like I even knew you existed!

KAYLA:

Tell it to someone who cares!

SALLY:

Both of you be quiet now! I know this is hard for you, learning how to deal with each other, but please keep it civil!

BRAD:

I...

SALLY:

You too, Brad. I made pancakes, Kayla - they're at the stove you can just help yourself.

KAYLA:

I'm not hungry.

She walks to the door.

BRAD:

Where are you going?

KAYLA:

Away!

She walks out. Brad jumps up to follow her, but Sally holds him back.

SALLY:

Let it go, Brad. If you go after her now, you're only going to say something that you'll regret later.

ON THE BEACH

Kayla is sitting on the beach. Lucas comes out of the water.

LUCAS:

Hey!

KAYLA:

Hi.

LUCAS:

What are you doing here?

KAYLA:

Sitting. You came for a surf?

LUCAS:

Yeah... it's good for clearing the head.

KAYLA:

Can you teach me?

LUCAS:

How to surf?

KAYLA:

Yeah. I've always wanted to.

LUCAS:

Okay, sure. Hey, you want to walk to school with me?

KAYLA;

Thanks, that'd be great.

LUCAS:

Cool. I just have to get dressed first. You can walk to my house with me and wait there if you like?

KAYLA:

Beats going back to Sally's house.

LUCAS:

Don't you like Sal?

KAYLA:

No, I do. She's cool.

LUCAS:

Then what's bothering you?

KAYLA:

He is.

LUCAS:

And he means Brad?

KAYLA:

Yes and I don't want to talk about it.

LUCAS:

Okay.

FLETCHER HOME

Cassie and Rocco are getting ready to walk to school (they don't want to go with Brad and Sally), while Sally is cleaning Pippa's mouth with a cloth. Brad is standing at the table.

BRAD:

She'd better show up at school. Or else.

SALLY:

Or else what?

BRAD:

I... I don't know yet.

SALLY:

Aren't you being a little hard on her?

BRAD:

Isn't she being a little hard on me?

SALLY:

Look, Brad...

BRAD:

No, I don't want to hear it. Can we go now?

SALLY:

Sure.

She picks up Pippa and they walk out. Cassie and Rocco look at each other.

ROCCO:

That was some fight.

CASSIE:

Yeah... I don't understand it though. I thought we were getting somewhere last night.

ROCCO:

Maybe it's just Mr Armstrong who has that effect on her.

CASSIE:

Maybe. Come on, let's go.

They walk out too.

I have just read this from the start, it is great. Im liking the fact that Brad has a daughter. I will be interested to read how their relationship develops. Their relationship hasn't got off to the best of starts so far, im sure Sally will be a huge support for them both.

/\ Thank you!

SUMMER BAY HIGH

Kayla and Lucas are walking to class when they see Brad coming their way.

KAYLA:

Oh save my soul!

LUCAS:

What's wrong?

KAYLA:

My idiot alert just went off.

LUCAS:

What are you talking abo... oh.

Brad walks up to them and stares at Kayla angrily.

BRAD;

Where did you disappear to this morning?

KAYLA:

Like I'll tell you.

BRAD:

Something could have happened to you!

KAYLA:

Look, I'm at school and I'm safe. Now would you just let me have a peaceful day without you looking over my shoulder please?

BRAD;

I was worried about you, Kayla!

KAYLA:

Try telling that to someone who actually believes it. Luc, can we please just go?

LUCAS:

Er...

BRAD:

It's fine. Go.

He turns around and walks away. Kayla frowns, staring after him.

KAYLA:

Let's go to class.

LUCAS:

Can I ask you something?

KAYLA:

Yeah, sure.

LUCAS:

Why is it that you are this amazing, fun, friendly person... but when you see Mr Armstrong all that changes?

KAYLA:

I guess he just brings out the worst in me.

LUCAS:

But he is your dad...

KAYLA:

I know. Biologically. Can we just go to class now? Please?

LUCAS:

Yeah, sure.

BRAD'S OFFICE.

Sally is sitting in Brad's office, he is standing opposite her.

BRAD:

She is trying her best to be spiteful and petty to me! I don't know why I'm even trying!

SALLY:

Maybe she needs more time to adjust.

BRAD:

And in the meanwhile I just have to ignore the fact that she has no respect for me?

SALLY:

That's not what I said...

BRAD:

It feels like it!

SALLY:

You this isn't my fault, you don't need to take your temper out on me!

BRAD:

Look... I'm sorry, Sal. I just... I don't know how to handle her. I just want to grab her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her.

SALLY:

I know it's hard for you. But you just have to keep trying to win her love.

BRAD:

Win her love? She doesn't have any! Not for me in any case.

SALLY:

I know she seems tough and heartless... but I think that underneath it all, she's just a scared little girl who wants her dad to love her.

BRAD:

You do?

She stands up and takes his hands.

SALLY:

Yes.

He puts his arms around her and closes his eyes.

IN CLASS.

Belle walks in to the class. She walks up to Kayla.

BELLE:

Oh look who it is, Mr Armstrong's little daughter. Tell me, what are the benefits of having him as your father? You expect everyone to adore you because of daddy?

KAYLA:

Belle, is it?

BELLE:

Like you don't know.

KAYLA:

Yeah, I was wondering what is it that happened to make you so insecure.

BELLE:

What are you talking about? I am not insecure.

KAYLA:

Yeah, and that's why you spend every second breaking off other people to make yourself look good. You're pathetic, you know that?

BELLE:

And you're a little brat! You think you can just waltz in here and start judging people?

KAYLA:

I don't judge you, Belle. You're not worth a second of my time. Now go tell someone else what to do, because it's just not going to work with me.

Belle glares at Kayla.

BELLE:

You know what, you do not want me as your enemy. Unfortunately for you... you just made it happen.

She walks to her seat and Lucas taps Kayla's arm.

LUCAS:

I'm taking it Belle rubs you up the wrong way too.

KAYLA:

Yup.

LUCAS:

Could you at least try to be a little nicer to her? Please?

KAYLA:

I'll think about it.

LUCAS:

How about your dad, could you...

KAYLA:

Don't push your luck. When is the first surf lesson?

LUCAS:

Say three o'clock? If that's okay with your dad.

KAYLA:

Why? He doesn't have to know.

LUCAS;

I don't want you getting into trouble.

KAYLA:

Look, three o'clock is fine, all right?

LUCAS:

Okay.

He opens his mouth to say something else, but Sally walks into the class and he shifts his attention to her as she starts talking about the pyramids in Egypt.
