Media reports last year said that the decision was mutual for Laurie to leave. On Friday, an interesting message appeared on the show's fansite, Street Talk which alleged details surrounding Laurie's departure

"i am a personal friend of Laurie's and with her approval i thought it was time that a few things were cleared up with why she left Shorty Street. she didn't "decide" to go back to Australia at all, she didn't "decide" to leave the show. she had signed a contract for a year and was looking forward to working on the show for 12 months and she moved countries so that she could do that. she was surprised as anyone when the producers called her into their office and told her that she wasn't any good, (she had been given no warning) and that they were replacing her, straight away. Lucy started the following day.

they also said she was being "difficult" because she complained to a director about sexual harassment on set.

so there's the story as to why Laurie "left". as per the press release she was glad to be out of there (wouldn't you be?) and in that case it was a mutual decision because she didn't fight for her job. the producer Jason had wanted Lucy from the start and made no secret of it, so it made sense to Laurie that she step aside. she wanted to do that quietly and discreetly so as to not cause the show any negative publicity and she agreed to several things with Simon Bennett the executive producer of the show. so i don't know where the TV guide are getting their "information" from but it is completely misleading and wrong.

Laurie has heard that Lucy is a great girl and doing a wonderful job in a difficult situation and wishes her the best. And finally, Laurie is still living in NZ and is currently looking for more acting work in Auckland.........i'll let you pass this onto the fans, its only fair that they should know the truth (if they're interested!). Laurie asked me to thank everyone for their support and wishes them all all a happy '07!"

This is what executive producer Simon Bennett said in response..

I'm not too bad a person...honest.

As far as Sydneysider's post is concerned, there are bits of truth in there, bits of half-truth and some complete rubbish as well.

Oh. I never knew that was happening on set

I wish she comes back here to work on H&A, she's a great actress! I love her!

It would be nice if Laurie came back to H&A, but I don't see it happening. With Jesse and Tash gone, there's really no reason for Josie to return :(. Particularly since she'd be abandoning Robbie, Tash and Ella in a foreign country if she did...

I guess Angie's ghost could come back to terrorize the bay. Or there could be a third identical cousin. Maybe that judge character that was in it for five seconds. She could come back and challenge Morag for legal supremacy.

There are hundreds of reasons why Josie could return. If the writers can't think just one up, they shouldn't be a writer!

Remember Amanda, technically she had no reason to return after she ran away (after sleeping with Dan). But the writers came up with that movie storyline - totally random - as a reason why her character would come back.

Josie's not Amanda. Josie doesn't have an ex-husband, the father of her child, living in Summer Bay. Josie doesn't have any ties to the bay, and so there's no real reason for her to go back there. The only reason she went to SB in the first place was to be with Tash, and Tash has now gone to America to be with Josie. Therefore it would make no logical sense, from a character standpoint, for Josie to return to the bay.

Josie can always make new friends and have an affair with Peter  Anything is possible with any character. Heck, you can bring Jade back and she can still fit in.

You're right Josie did move to Summer Bay to be with Tasha and it would make no logical sense for Josie to leave Tasha. But that didn't stop them writing Josie out a year and a half before Tasha left.

She could easily leave her again.

Reason 1: We know Josie runs some kind of retreat. Summer Bay would be an ideal place for a retreat.

Reason 2: She could be called back to Summer Bay for some kind of Ian Osborne related storyline.

Reason 3: Josie loved Summer Bay but ran away because she couldn't cope with everyone's treatment of her. Now, she has healed and become a stronger person, she is ready to return as she wants to lay some ghosts to rest.

And I'm not even a writer who studied, trained, and gets paid for coming up with these things. I'm sure they could do much better.

You're ignoring my main point. When Josie left Tasha before, she left her with a whole town full of friends and (close enough to) family. Not in a foreign country (where Tash would never have gone if Josie hadn't specifically invited her to live with her) with a baby and a naive husband. I really don't believe that Josie would leave Tash in that situation just because she feels like going back to a town where nobody likes her, just to prove that she can.

I would however believe an Ian Osbourne storyline, as that would still be tied to Tash. It would be a stretch getting it to work without bringing Tasha back though.
