Foxy
CHAPTER 1 - THE FIRST NIGHT “Breathe” she told herself, her feet thundering across the ground as fast as they could. She turned her head slightly to the side, before sharply pulling it back, focusing upon the path ahead. “Don’t look back” a tear slid down her left cheek, as she tried to muster all the energy she could into running faster. She was speeding up, yet not feeling tired. Something wasn’t right. It couldn’t be……true? A flash of light startled her up ahead, and she saw him. He appeared as he always did, out of nothing. His hands were placed in his trouser pockets and despite knowing what was following her, he remained the portrait of calmness. “You can’t keep running” he called out to her, as she got closer and closer at a tremendous speed “You’ll end up dead” “Help me!” she called to him, more tears gliding off her cheeks. “You can only help yourself” he said, firmly. She stopped running; she was stood right in front of him. She glanced at him fearfully – she still hadn’t fathomed how he could possibly be there. She glanced back – it was still following her, walking very smoothly. She broke into a sob. “You have to help me, I don’t know what to do……why are you here, why is he here?” she said, motioning to the thing following her “Mr Hyde, you killed him, how can he be alive, and following me?” “I don’t know why Josh West is alive – but you know why I’m here, and how I’m here. You just need to face up to it” Barry’s voice became forceful “And how the hell do you expect me to do that? You turn up here telling me I’ve got some sort of destiny, and I’m just supposed to accept that?” “Frankly…..yes!” Barry exclaimed harshly “Countless others have done it before you; this is a rite, a purpose!” She breathed heavily, glancing back at the ominous approach of Josh West. Her tears started to dry up. “Dead people walking the streets shouldn’t be happening…..maybe…..maybe its true?” she questioned. “I don’t think you need me to answer that” Barry said, his voice beginning to fill with compassion again. She glanced back at Josh. “So it’s true…..it’s really true. I’m the Slayer. Matilda the Vampire Slayer.” DARK SUMMER CHAPTER 1 – THE FIRST NIGHT Starring INDIANA EVANS as Matilda MARK FURZE as Ric JESSICA TOVEY as Belle RHYS WAKEFIELD as Lucas SHARNI VINSON as Cassie With HOLLY BRISLEY as Amanda Vale And IVAR KANTS as Barry Hyde Guest Starring Kate Ritchie Clarissa House Tim Campbell Daniel Collopy Issac Gorman And Geralidine Turner as Kitty Landsdown Matilda pushed her key into the lock of her front door sharply. She stopped before she turned it, and took a deep breath. However different Beth had become since Tony left, she would notice if Matilda was at all flustered. “I’m ready” she told herself. She wasn’t sure she completely believed it, but she knew she couldn’t hover on the doorstep all night. She turned the key and stepped into the Hunter’s living room, greeted by a familiar sight. Beth was sat upon the couch, in a large cardigan, starring blankly at the television. Her face was pale, and her hair looked as though it hadn’t been brushed for weeks. She didn’t flinch as the door opened. “Mum?” Matilda enquired softly, so as not to scare her fragile mother. Beth turned her head slowly. “Oh…..hiya, sweet” she said, her voice sounding as weak as she looked. She had tried to display a false smile, but she was beyond having the ability to “Did, you have a good time with Cassie?” “We had an….interesting time.” Matilda said, deliberately trying not to show any emotion. “That’s good” Beth replied, without even thinking to question what Matilda had said, as she turned her head back to the television. “I suppose Lucas is out?” Matilda asked, trying to maintain the conversation. She hated awkward silences with her mother. “Do you even need to ask?” Beth said, lacking any spirit to her voice. “With Lee?” Matilda felt stupid asking, knowing the answer full well beforehand, already feeling the snap of jealousy that always accompanied that name. “Yes, and the others” Beth sounded almost like she were an automated replying system, her voice had lost all its spirit and edge “I think I might go and…..sleep”. Matilda knew full well that Beth meant ‘go to bed and cry’ but she never mentioned to Beth that she knew about it. It had been the same almost every night since Tony left, without warning, leaving Lucas in Beth’s care. “Night Mum” Matilda forced out, with a painted grin. Beth walked slowly, without purpose, off to her bedroom. Matilda watched her as she went, before turning off the TV, and collapsing in the very chair that Beth had left vacant. Her head fell into her hands, and she ran them across her face and through her hair. She blinked and took another deep breath. “It’s clear” she called out, as quietly as a call can be. Barry appeared on the sofa next to the chair that Matilda had found herself. “That was very impressive you know, for a novice” he said, contently. “Oh that? I’m always playing Mum….” Matilda froze, realising that she had visited a time in her mind when Beth could be played. Now, she could walk all over her, and was suddenly swept by an intense guilt. “I meant the way you rendered Mr West unconscious. To have that ability before training bodes very well.” Barry smiled. “Oh…….right, thanks” Matilda said sheepishly, the guilt she had felt beginning to fade. “So, I imagine you have a multitude of questions” Barry said, changing the subject “Now would be the time to ask them. I’m an open book.” “I still haven’t got used to you being here again…..” Matilda replied, slightly embarrassed that she hadn’t got her head around it. “I understand. I’ll tell you again from the beginning. I am a Watcher. I was sent to Summer Bay shortly after you, to report back to the Watchers Council about your progress as a potential Slayer, so they could determine whether it was you that would go onto be the Slayer, once the Slayer had died.” “Yeah, I….” Matilda hesitated “…..I, understand that bit. I meant the part after you killed Josh” Barry glared at Matilda. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so blunt…” she said, almost shyly. “It’s OK. When I had the unfortunate with Mr West, the Council wanted nothing more to do with me. But I begged them that I was the only person that could nurture you abilities when the time came to take over the position of Slayer. I knew you wouldn’t take the news well and that a sense of familiarity was what you needed. They finally conceded, and they were able to get the charges against me dropped. But that came at a price. I was cursed. No-one in Summer Bay can be aware of my presence, they must think I’m still in jail, so the Council enlisted a powerful coven to curse me. I can therefore appear and disappear when I please.” “What happens when you disappear?” Matilda, who’d be listening with the greatest concentration, felt the need to ask. “That is irrelevant” Barry said, shrugging off the question “Would you like me to explain the Slayer prophecy again?” “No, I get that……in every generation, there is a Slayer. She alone must face the vampires…” Matilda said, in a way that sounded like she was reciting it “But…what makes me any more capable than any of the other potential Slayers? I mean….why is it me?” “No-one can truly be sure. I know that I saw a great deal of guts and perseverance in you, but there’s no one thing that necessarily stands out about you. All I know is that your living on a Hell portal, which must’ve counted in your favour….” Barry was now a little embarrassed that Matilda had asked him something so unanswerable. “A Hell portal?” Matilda had never heard this term before. “The place where Buffy used to live was placed upon a Hell mouth, a huge gateway between Earth and the Hell dimensions. Summer Bay is upon a Hell portal, a far smaller sort of gateway.” Barry explained “So that means that Summer Bay is less dangerous than Sunnydale?” Matilda asked, hopefully. “On the contrary” Barry stated gravely “The smaller gateway means that the evil is far more concentrated, and far more frequent.” “So that explains why Josh was alive again? He passed through the portal onto the Earth?” Matilda began feeling a little proud that she’d worked that out by herself. “No” Barry said, even more gravely “If he had passed through from Hell, he would’ve taken the form of some kind of demon….Mr West looked like a fully functioning human being. I need to go and research the possible causes of his appearance in Summer Bay.” “Oh right….well you can crash on the sofa tonight, I can wake you up before anyone else gets up…” Matilda suggested, helpfully “I don’t think you’ve quite grasped the gravity of our situation yet Matilda….” Barry said, with a half smile. “Of course I have!” Matilda said a little more harshly than she intended – she was in fact a little more offended than she had intended. “….then surely you must understand the time is of the essence, I must go at once. In the meantime, I suggest you get some rest, you’ve come to terms with a hell of a lot tonight.” “Barry, I’m fine” Matilda reiterated “I’m the Slayer.” “Be careful with that information. Only those who must know, should know” Barry said quickly, before disappearing cleanly into thin air. Once he was gone, Matilda lost composure slightly and slumped into the chair. “I’m the Slayer” she said again, quietly, with fear in her voice. The events of the evening encircled her head, as she tried to make some sense of it. ------------------------------------------------- “Oh, just shut up you lying cow!” Cassie snarled at Belle, and then proceeded to run her fingers slowly through her long, loose hair. Belle smiled. “You just can’t handle the fact that, eventually, Ric’s going to choose me!” she said with an air of superiority. She felt a small pain in her left eye as she spoke, but maintained composure “In your dreams skank!” Matilda said, with an equal superiority complex. As she spoke, she noticed a change in Belle’s face. The smug, anarchic expressions slowly dissolved into one of total, unrelenting horror. Her mouth had dropped, yet she’d been rendered unable to speak. “Come on Maddie, we haven’t got time for pathetic losers” Cassie said, not really noticing the look on Belle’s face. Her and Matilda spun around to leave, but stopped instantly in their tracks. Their faces were swept with the same look as Belle’s. “Well, hello there ladies” Josh West smarmed “Not such a good idea really is it? Three helpless girls alone, on the beach at night! Who knows what could happen?” “Run!” Matilda said, panicking. The three girls ran off. Behind them they could hear the echo of Josh’s voice. “You can run, but…..what’s the point? I’ll kill you all eventually!” his malicious words were followed by an evil sort of snigger. “You and Belle go that way!” Matilda ordered, not quite sure where her logic was coming from “I’ll keep running this way, and distract him!” “Matilda, I’m not leaving you!” Cassie cried “GO! I’ll be fine!” Matilda shouted firmly. She feared what she was saying, yet somehow knew it was the right thing to do……. -------------------------------------------- In the lounge area of Summer Bay house, Cassie was sat alone, shaking, on the sofa, staring into the empty air. She too was thinking about what had happened earlier. Infact, it was all she had thought about since she arrived home. She couldn’t stop shaking. She couldn’t believe that Belle resisted staying with her, instead running back to the Beach House alone. Everything kept spinning in her head, round and round. Josh couldn’t be alive….but if he was….how? Nothing seemed to make sense. Cassie heard soft footsteps walking down the stairs. Fear gripped her. She rose, silently, and grabbed the receiver of the phone. It wouldn’t do much damage, but at least if Josh was there, she could hit him over the head and stun him whilst she ran out of the house. The footsteps got closer, and Cassie edged closer to the doorway. Her heart was racing, pumping faster than it ever had before. She felt like crying, but her tears restrained themselves. She raised the receiver above her head, and closed her eyes tightly, ready to strike. The footsteps reached the doorway, and she began to motion her arm downwards. “Cassie!” Sally called out, disturbed by the stance of her foster daughter “What the hell’s going on?” Cassie slowly opened, and the relief was evident in her eyes. She slowly placed the receiver back down. She noticed that Sally looked distinctly unimpressed. “I…err….” Cassie struggled to find a suitable explanation. Sally noticed something in her eyes, a glimmer of fear, as she watched her trying to wriggle a cover story out. “Are you alright?” Sally asked, sensing that all was not well. Cassie looked at Sally, and momentarily thought about telling her everything. About the beach, and Belle, and…..Josh. No way, she couldn’t tell her about Josh. She couldn’t tell anyone. “I’m fine, honest Sal” Cassie said, unconvincingly. “Cassie, I know something’s wrong, and I’m not going to force you to tell me, but I’m concerned.” Sally said flatly. Cassie looked at Sally again, and then her eyes did everything possible to avoid contact. Sally realised she was getting no-where at all. “Anyway, what are you still doing up at this time?” Sally said inquisitively, trying to change to subject as lightly as possible. Once again, Cassie struggled to find the explanation she was so desperately looking for, and found herself once again staring into emptiness, thinking about…him. “Cassie?” Sally asked, her voice beginning to sound worried. The phone chirped. Cassie looked momentarily relieved that the questioning would stop. “This isn’t over” Sally said, concerned, before picking up the receiver “Hello?” Cassie fell back into her thoughts. She took little notice of the phone conversation at first. She kept seeing his face. There had to be some explanation. Why did he target three girls who had very little to do with him? What was he looking for? How was he even alive? She snapped out of her trance as Sally’s voice became more frantic. “Oh my God, is she OK?” Sally spoke down the receiver. Cassie froze. Matilda. He’s got her……how could she be so stupid to leave Matilda all on her own….? “Of course, I’ll head straight over…..no, don’t be stupid, of course it’s no trouble.” Cassie’s shaking became more vigorous. Matilda’s dead. And it was her fault… “That was Dan on the phone” Sally said, trying o stay calm “He must’ve found her…” Cassie told herself “It’s Amanda, she was found unconscious in her flat earlier on. I’m heading over to the hospital to take Ryan for the night”. Sally said, already heading back up the stairs to change out of her dressing gown. Cassie breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t Matilda. Everything was fine. Wait, no…Josh. Amanda. It was him. It must’ve been. Cassie returned to the sofa, more scared than she’d ever been in her life. Belle Taylor too was sat on her sofa, alone, mascara stains trailing down her cheeks. She clutched onto the necklace that was always around her neck, sobbing quietly. She couldn’t let Irene hear her. What had she done? She knew what she had to do, and reached over for the telephone. Her diary was strewn across the table in front of her, with pages scattered all around the central book. She picked up a piece of lined paper, with a neatly printed number on it, preceded by the words ‘For Emergencies’. “If this isn’t an emergency, I don’t know what is” she muttered to herself. In her house on the outskirts of Summer Bay, Kitty Landsdown was sat up in bed, her eyes gaping wide open. She turned her head slowly to look at the mobile phone on the top of her bedside cabinet. Her breathing was heavy. It was as she knew it was about to ring. Whether she did, or she didn’t she still jumped when the shrill, piercing ringtone began. She reached out for it, her hand shaking. She pressed the answer button harder than she usually did and slowly lifted the phone to her ear. “Hello” she said anxiously “Gran, something’s happened” Belle said, her emotional voice wavering “That guy that got shot…..he was here tonight, in Summer Bay.” “Right” Kitty said, rather unhelpfully. “Did I do it?” Belle asked bluntly “Did you have your necklace?” Kitty asked “Yes” Belle replied. She hated these sorts of phone calls. “Then……no. It couldn’t…possibly…be you” Kitty said unconvincingly “Do you mean that Gran?” Belle said, her voice becoming more emotional by the word “Of course love.” Kitty said. She drew a deep breath before she spoke again “Belle love…I need you to keep your necklace on at all costs.” “Why?” Belle asked, beginning once again to panic that she had been the cause of Josh’s appearance. “Something is coming. I don’t want you to be alarmed. But something is coming. It’s very important your necklace stays on” Kitty said. She anticipated Belle’s next question, and immediately pressed the ‘Call Terminated’ button. “Gran, what’s coming?” Belle naturally reacted to such a question. The phone line was dead. She placed her own phone down, and began searching through more of the sheets protruding from her diary. “Where is it…” she muttered, her tears beginning to flow once again “…come on!” She began getting aggressive with her prized possession. Finally she found what she was looking for. Another piece of lined paper, with neatly printed text upon it. “I need to know…” Belle said, determinedly as she glanced at the laptop resting on Irene’s table. Matilda was hugging cushion in the chair that Barry Hyde has left her in. She refused to cry, she need to be strong. She was the Slayer. She was strong. She felt weak. She looked up as Lucas came into view, outside the window. Lee was with him, and they were having another of their sickening long goodbyes. Matilda refused to listen to it. She saw him kiss her, and threw the pair a disgusted look, though she knew they wouldn’t see it. Momentarily all of her fears went away, and all she could think about was him. She still loved him. No, she hated him. How could she hate someone that looked that……no. She refused to go to that place in her brain. She had far more important things to worry about. Lee left and, noticing the light on, Lucas came into the lounge. “Where have you been?” Matilda asked bluntly “What the hell’s that got to do with you?” Lucas snarked “You’ve been with her?” Matilda said strongly, though she felt infinitely weaker as she said it. “So what if have?” Lucas replied “Have you seen what this is doing to Mum?” Matilda ventured, knowing it wasn’t the cleverest thing to ask. “Oh, like I care about your Mum” Lucas retorted “You should, she’s the one putting you up after your rat of a father ditched…” as Matilda said it, Lucas lunged at her, grabbing her throat. “Don’t you EVER talk about my….” Lucas shouted. As he did so, a strange sensation came over him, and he sharply pulled his hand away from Matilda “God, what’s happened to you?” Matilda stared at him in disbelief. What had he felt? “Nothing’s happened to me” Matilda replied, burying her experiences of earlier in the night to the bottom of her brain. Lucas regained his macho bravado. “So, you’re just a complete freak then?” Lucas laughed “Shut up” Matilda said through gritted teeth “Ha, well at least you seem to know it too….” Lucas continued laughing. “I said shut up” Matilda said, her voice growing angrier, and her fist clenching. “What are you going to do, hit me?” Lucas failed to restrain his laughter. Matilda clenched her fist harder. She rose from her chair forcefully. She glared Lucas in the eye, and her inner strength melted. She couldn’t. She hated him. She loved him. She unclenched her fist, and ran from him, through the front door, and into the night. The sanitary smell of Hospital had filled Sally’s nostrils and as she stood by the side of Amanda’s bed, on the opposite side to Dan. Amanda had been wired up to several machines, the most prominent being one that beeped according to her heart. “What do they think is wrong?” Sally asked sensitively. She noticed a compassion within Dan that she had never before seen him display for his ex-wife. “They don’t know. That’s the worst part. You can’t understand having to explain to a 7 year old child that his mummy’s ill but nobody knows why” Dan paused after each sentence. His concern was almost palpable. “Has she…improved since she’s been here?” Sally didn’t know what else to say. “No” Dan said, swiftly adding “Not yet.” “Is Leah at home?” Sally could feel that her questions were running out of steam “Yeah, she stayed with VJ. I didn’t want to burden her with Ryan” Dan’s voice sounded almost cold. “I understand” Sally said, sympathetically, but realising that she didn’t understand at all. Suddenly, with no warning, Amanda sat bolt upright in the bed between the pair of them, as though possessed, her eyes practically bulging from her poised blue eyes. Sally and Dan both fell back to the floor in shock, gasping. Amanda looked directly ahead of her. “SOMETHING IS COMING!” she screamed, her voice inhumanly piercing. She fell back on the bed, and her heart monitor became a continuous drone of a beep. Dan and Sally stayed on the floor, glancing at each other between the bars that supported the bed, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Dan snapped out of his dazed terror and leapt to call the doctors for some help. Ric sat alongside Cassie, his jaw dropped, his eyes filled with disbelief. It had taken a long while after Sally had left for Ric to elicit any form of information from Cassie. Now he wasn’t quite so sure that he wanted to hear what she had to say. Part of him didn’t dare believe her. He was torn – he didn’t want to believe it, but he could tell by the tone of her voice, and the anguish that her eyes tried to disguise that she was telling the complete truth. And after all, why would someone lie about something like that? “So….” Ric began, not knowing where he was going with his sentence. Cassie was still shaking, though it had calmed down slightly. “I know that you don’t know what to say” Cassie said, turning to look at him, for the first time since she had explained the evenings events “I don’t know what to think either.” Ric felt a sense of relief that what he said next wasn’t expected to be the ‘right’ thing. Cassie continued to look deeply into Ric’s eyes, looking for some sort of comfort. “I was just…..so scared…” Cassie began, dissolving into Ric’s arms, and tears, simultaneously. “You….you’ve got to stay strong” Ric tried to sound re-assuring, but he still didn’t have a clue what to say. Cassie pulled out of his arms. “But how? Ric, I saw a man who was shot tonight. How can I be strong?” Cassie said frantically. “Maybe…..maybe it’s not Josh. Maybe it’s his identical twin or something” Ric reasoned. “Ric, be serious. Stuff like that only happens on TV” Cassie shrugged off his suggestion. “We need to call Maddie and decide what to do next” Ric said, not entirely understanding what one would do after seeing a supposed dead man walking the streets. “She’ll be in bed” Cassie said “You really think she’ll be sleeping?” Ric said, almost sarcastically. There was a sudden, loud bang upon the door. Cassie jumped. “It’s OK, you sit here….I’ll…..I’ll get it” Ric said nervously Ric rose from his seat, his fists clenched tightly, with a look of frightened determination on his face. He edged towards the door, slower than he may have liked. A part of his brain was fighting hard over the decision to open the door. He knew, deep down he didn’t want to do it, but he had to, for Cassie. His hand began to shake as he reached out for the door handle, but he controlled it – he didn’t want to show Cassie his fear. He pulled the door open swiftly, in order to get it over and done quickly. He breathed a sigh of relief as he saw Matilda on the other side of the threshold. “Oh, thank god!” Cassie exclaimed, leaping from her chair. She ran to Matilda and flung her arms around her “I wondered what had happened to you!” Cassie held the hug for a period of time before breaking it, and re-entering the house. “Have you told him?” Matilda asked, knowing that Cassie would understand that to mean Ric. “Yeah, I had to. I tried not to, but I just….” Cassie began. “It’s OK” Matilda interrupted. “How can you be so calm?” a tearstained Cassie asked her. “There’s something I need to tell you both” Matilda said bluntly. “What is it?” Ric inquired, sensing the sincerity in Matilda’s voice. Not the first time that night, Matilda drew a deep breath. “I’m the Slayer” she said. “It was horrific Amanda” Dan’s voice was filled with retrospective fear. Amanda had gone into cardiac arrest, and, following a lengthy effort by the doctors, she had been revived. She felt groggy, and had an immense headache. “I…I don’t even remember coming here” Amanda said, confused “Nothing at all?” Dan was stood at her bedside, leaning over the bed rail to speak to Amanda, as she lay down. “I’d put Ryan to bed, and I’d watched some TV, and I….and then I guess I stop remembering” Amanda began getting emotional as she struggled with her memory. “So, you don’t remember hearing anything, or seeing anything suspicious. “Nothing” Amanda said melancholically “I don’t know what…” Dan hesitated “Ryan would’ve done if we’d lost you” “I hate this!” Amanda cried in frustration, almost ignoring Dan’s comment “I mean, I could’ve done this to myself, someone could’ve done it…..someone could’ve done anything” Amanda had more than a little hint of terror in her tone. “Well, the main thing you’re safe, and you’re here” Dan said in comfort “But anything could’ve happened Dan!” Amanda said as her tears flowed “I hate to think that I could be the cause of this!” “How’s this happened?” Ric questioned, his jaw hitting the floor for the second time of the evening “I don’t understand it fully…I’ve always had the potential, but since the last Slayer died, they realised my potential was going to develop into….something” Matilda realised she still had much to learn “So that’s why Josh was after us, he knew you were some sort of…..special….thing?” Cassie didn’t have the ability to choose her words carefully, she was still processing Matilda’s news, on top of events of the earlier evening. “I can’t take all this” Ric said, his voice showing that he was near ready to explode “I need to get out of here” He made his way swiftly towards the door at the back of the kitchen. “Ric, no!” Matilda called “You can’t gout there, it’s too dangerous!” “Well, what the hell am I supposed to do? You come in here, telling us all we’re over-run by vampires, demons, dead people….and I’m supposed to just go along with that?” Ric began raising his voice “Well, it’s not my fault!” Matilda retaliated “Yes it is! You’ve just been selfish Matilda, you’ve marched over here and dumped all this on us, without a thought for how the hell we’re going to feel!” Ric grew more irate “Guy’s, calm down” Cassie tried to intervene “Stay out of this Cass, if he wants to go out and get himself killed, then he can” Matilda bluffed. There was no way she was letting Ric leave the house in truth. “Fine, I will!” Ric barked, making his way towards the front door this time. Matilda walked towards him, and slapped him hard across the cheek, sending him flying across the central kitchen worktop. Cassie gasped, and Matilda began to look terrified. She began staring at her hand, in disbelief that she’d just managed to send Ric flying across the room. “I’m sorry!” she said instantly, terrified. For the first time that evening, since learning she was the Slayer, she had let her guard down, and Cassie briefly saw the scared little girl within Matilda. Ric gradually made his way onto his blood, blood trickling from his nose. She glared at Matilda, also scared, before sidling off upstairs. Cassie didn’t know what to do. “Will…he be OK?” Matilda asked quietly “I didn’t mean too….I mean, I didn’t know I could…” “Sally can sort him out when she gets back” Cassie said, not really knowing how to react to her friend. “Cassie, believe me, I’m sorry. I’m really going to need you guys…” Matilda has an edge of begging in her voice. “What can we do?” Cassie asked “It’s not like we have any special kinds of power” “Yes you do. You can be there for me. I can’t do this alone” Matilda whispered, as if she didn’t want to admit the fact to herself. Matilda bowed her head. Cassie placed a hand on her shoulder and she glanced back up. “I promise I’ll always be here for you” Cassie said sincerely “Don’t make promises you can’t keep” Matilda’s bottom lip wavered, as she maintained intense eye contact with her friend. “What on earth are you doing here so late?” Sally asked as she breezed through the door, breaking the intense moment between the two friends. Ryan followed her through the door. Matilda smiled falsely. “I was just going” Matilda said brightly, turning towards the door “I think that’s best, shall I get Ric to walk you back?” Sally inquired, already walking towards the stairs to call for him “No!” Matilda exclaimed, almost a little too sharply “I can look after myself…” “If you’re sure?” Sally re-asked “Honestly, I’ll be fine, it’s not far” Matilda continued her sickly false attitude “Alright then. Oh, could you let your Mum about Amanda?” Sally questioned as Cassie began talking to Ryan. “Amanda?” Matilda was confused “Has Cassie not filled you in? She was admitted to hospital earlier. Poor little Ryan here found her unconscious…” Sally whispered the last part to try and not hurt Ryan’s feelings. Terror struck Matilda. “What?...I need to see Ba….I mean my Watch….I need to go!” Matilda panicked, running out of the house. Belle was sat in the pitch black, and Irene’s laptop, staring intently at the screen. It was displaying a website entitled ‘Covern.Com’. Belle had scoffed at this when she first read it, thinking it to be an entirely ridiculous name. She clicked on the ‘Restricted Area’ link in the menu, and screen showed itself demanding a username and password. She typed them in carefully, and clicked the ‘Enter’. Anger engulfed at what met her. A screen with “Access Revoked” splashed across it in large letters. Matilda wandered along the beachfront, her shoes in her hand, the water lapping over her bare feet. “Where are you?” she muttered to herself. “I’m here” a voice called behind her. She spun round and saw Barry further along the beach. She ran towards him. “Barry, Amanda’s been hurt….I think it was Josh!” she said frantically. “Matilda, calm down, it wasn’t Josh. I checked Amanda’s apartment over, there were no signs of forced entry” Barry said sympathetically “Her incident was entirely unrelated” Matilda felt a sense of relief. She wasn’t sure why she cared about Amanda so much, but the thought that she could’ve been hurt by Josh…. “So, does this mean he’s gone then?” Matilda asked hopefully “I only wish that were the case. Your rendering him unconscious earlier will have slowed him down, but I’ve unfortunately got every faith in him making a re-appearance.” Barry said grimly. Matilda returned to feeling down-heartened. “So….how is he here at all?” Matilda ventured “The good news is he isn’t The First. You were able to fight him, which means it couldn’t possibly have been them” Barry said “And the bad news?” Matilda wasn’t sure she wanted to know, but knew she had to. “It’s not good. Josh West is, by default, a zombie – but he’s much more dangerous than that. He has his soul restored to him. He’s out to destroy the place which he views destroyed him I would imagine” Barry explained “But who would want to bring him back?” Matilda asked. It had been a long night. “When Buffy was brought back, it was widely considered to be the final time that such a spell could ever be used. A vital tool in such a spell has been eradicated from existence. So, in truth…” Barry hesitated “…myself and the council have no idea how this could’ve happened. There’s only one witch in the whole world that we know of with the power to do such a thing, and she’s long since controlled her powers” “How can I fight him?” Matilda asked determinedly. For the first time since she had accepted her calling, Barry felt her embrace it. “We’re working on it” Barry assured her “In the meantime, I need to start training you” Matilda rubbed her left eye and sighed. “I need to speak to Cassie” she murmured. “Have you told her?” Barry asked “I told her and Ric earlier….and Lucas….” Matilda trailed off “What about Lucas?” Barry asked, attempting a friendly tone of voice. “He felt something….he felt a change. I guess that was just coincidence right?” Barry’s expression became grave. “The only thing he could possibly have felt is you power…” Barry began “Wow, people can do that?” Matilda interrupted. Barry stared at her, not wanting to have to carry on. “No…the only person who can sense a Slayer’s power is a vampire” he said as the first ray of the sunrise emblazoned itself upon the horizon. xsamie
This is so cool. So if Lucas is a vampire then Matilda will have to kill him, noooooooooooooooooo!. Although he would look hot in a leather jacket like Angel and Spike when they were in Buffy. Your doing a great job by the way.
