ste Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 There isn't a set pattern, no "columns" or whatever you want to call it. Just depends on the character in question and what the writers want to do with that character. There really isn't that much to it.
Josh Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 By column, I'm referring to the database that I'm working on. The furthest column left is years, from 1988 to 2006, and each row lists the characters from the end of the year's opening credits. I'm working my up and whenever I reach the point where a character had just arrived, I put in a character who'd left that year or the year before. So column J (coincidentally), goes Jack for 2004-6, and then Jesse for 2002-4. But he first appeared in 1996, so unless someone fills those spaces exactly, where does Jesse's previous stint on the show go? Did any of this make sense? And if this seems boring, I don't need criticism to help finish this, I need information on when each character left and arrived. Most sites aren't very detailed before around 2000. I'm not the only one who finds this intriguing.
dan Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 There's a lot of detail about arrivals and departures on another thread that was originally about old characters returning as guests. I'll bump it up to the top for you.
Josh Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Thank's Dan but what's the name of the thread? In the meantime I may have made some progress, but knowing very little about the characters before around 2002, I may be way off. By the way, I checked the TV.Com cast list, and Colleen didn't join the main cast until 2000, just in time for Ailsa's death at the end of the year. I don't know which episode Colleen joined in, but it's good enough for me. Either way, I still find Colleen an insane pain in the butt, no matter how popular her predeccessor was. Rhys seems to have replaced Joel Nash around 2001, since his family moved out of the caravan park the same time that the Sutherlands moved in. At the same time Shelley replaced Natalie. Josh seems to have replaced Will in 2001 Noah replaced Sam in 2001. Hayley moved in age group around 2003, replacing Gypsy. Tasha replaced the younger Hayley at the same time, if that makes any sense. Jesse came back and replaced Jude Lawson in 2002. These characters I don't know much about, but Kit replaced Brodie, in 2003, who replaced Shauna in 2001. (correct me if I don't know what I'm talking about.) Kane, (even though he wasn't a regular yet) replaced Vinnie in 2003 I'm not sure about this, but how old was Duncan when he was a regular character, around the late-1990s, early-2000s? Because it appears that Max was the only one who could have replaced him.
dan Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Possibly Scott replaced Vinnie? Also I think Nick is more likely to be Sam's replacement, right down to taking his square in the opening credits. Re Ailsa/Colleen, Colleen was there for most of 2000 but being a very long term character they would have known about Ailsa's departure for a fairly long time. I'll just find the thread I was talking about and bump it to the top, as I say it was originally about old characters returning as guests, I think it's called 'Blast from the past'. Going way back I'd say Blake was replaced by Curtis who was replaced by Aaron who may have been replaced by Will!
Josh Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 The problem is that I couldn't find a place for Nick, becuase the closest possibility was Max, who arrived and was credited a year before Nick left. Vinnie seems closer to Kane, especially being arrested for his father's crimes. Josh and Scott went out with the same two girls (Hayley and Dani), as did Sam and Noah. I think I may have found one that goes back to the beginning. I think that Shelley was the replacement for Pippa.
Sunny Girl Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Rebecca (Belinda Emmett) actually replaced Pippa.
-Tess- Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Sunny Girl said: Rebecca (Belinda Emmett) actually replaced Pippa. Really?
Ryan Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Well in as much that her and Travis agreed to look after the kids when Pippa went on her six months holiday, and then she decided to stay in the Carrington Ranges.
nenehcherry2 Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Back to the early years, in lateish 1991, Fin and Simon replaced Haydn and Karen. You could also say that Bobby, Greg and Sam were replaced by Shane, Angel and Dylan (in 1994), who in turn were replaced by Jesse, Kylie and Rachel (in 1996). As far as the teenagers are concerned, new charactrs (from 1990, once the Fletcher kids and Roo, etc had grown up) have generally been introduced when they are in year 10, with us witnessing them through year 11, before a new load were brought in. After year 12, characters either repeat the HSC (Carly, Fin, Hayley), leave (Steven, Brodie) or become 'twenties' characters (Bobby, Shane, Angel, Danni, Noah). Here's a look........ 1990 - Year 10 - NEW INTAKE Sophie, Blake, Karen, Haydn 1992 - Year 10 - Tug, Shane, Damian 1994 - Year 10 - Jack, Shannon, Selina, Curtis (later joined by Chloe) 1996 - Year 10 - Stephanie, Liam, Joey, Casey, Aaron 1997 - Year 10 - Justine, Tom, 1998 - Year 10 - Sam, Gypsy, Will (later joined by Edward, Hayley and Peta) 2000 - Danni, Mitch (repeating), Brodie Right up to....... the present day. Now we have Tasha and Robbie in year 12, Matty and Lucas in year 10. In a given season between up to 1990 and 1996, you'd have a year 10 group and a year 12 OR just a year 11 group.1993, for example, was a year 11 year with Shane, Angel, Tug, etc, whilst 1990 was year 10 and 12, with Steven, Emma, Paul etc in year 10 and Sophie, Blake, Karen etc in year 10. Sally and Sam, as well as Matty, Henry and Max, were exceptions to this pattern as they joined the show at earlier ages.
