I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at the script meeting that resulted in this week's over-the-top season return to Summer Bay, a week that will supposedly be the last for at least one resident.

So far we've seen Flynn planning to end his life with a morphine overdose, Sally getting electrocuted in the caravan park, Robbie losing Tasha to a cult then falling into a raging river, money-grabbing Amanda marrying her ex-boyfriend's grandfather Graham and Leah being taken hostage over Dan's gambling debts.

Let's not forget all this is happening in the middle of a cyclone - and it's not yet Friday.

With this much tragedy packed into the first week of the year, heaven help those who remain all season.

On the plus side - and this comes with a spoiler alert - Chris Hemsworth revealed during his visit to Telethon in November that Kim would survive his drug-induced coma and perhaps find love again.

It's about time the kid got a break after a year in which he lost Hayley to Scott, found out he wasn't the father of her baby and that his own father had killed his mother.
