Features - Summer Bay Stalker Suspects

With the stalker still on the lose, everyone in Summer Bay is a suspect. Just who is the stalker? We take a look through the suspects and their possible motives.
So many residents, so many motives, so many suspects! Just who is the Summer Bay stalker? Presuming it's just one person...!

The residents have been reduced down to five main suspects by Channel Seven:

  • Dan Baker
  • Zoe McCallister
  • Jesse McGregor
  • Josie Russell
  • Flynn Saunders

However, how do we know that it actually is one of these shifty looking five? They could be trying to throw us off course. This is the stalker at work, you never know what will happen next. But to be on the safe side, let's start off by examining these five.

Dan Baker

Why would a nice quiet boy like Dan want to go around terrorising the residents of Summer Bay? We don't know, but isn't it true that you always have to watch out for the quiet ones? He hasn't had much interaction with other Summer Bay residents, and doesn't have a huge amount of friends, so maybe he resents them for this? Or maybe he didn't want to get too close to them if he knew it wouldn't be long until he was murdering them.

Peter and Dan weren't on the best of terms when Peter arrived in Summer Bay. Plus, Peter awoke from his coma to find himself in love with Leah. The Stalker has caused nothing but stress and problems for Peter, so maybe it's all part of Dan's master plan to get Peter out of his life!

Josie Russell

Shortening this list down could be difficult. Josie has numerous reasons for being the Summer Bay Stalker, and Number #1 is Marc Edwards. He's been making her life hell since they got a little too close one night. She couldn't have Jesse finding out what went on between them, and this resulted in her being blackmailed by Marc for months.

Could this have caused her to start stalking the residents? After all, she accused Marc of being the stalker and he was almost proved to be so. Could it have been a major setup to get rid of him? Of course, we'd have to ignore the fact that her encounter with Marc happened after some of the first stalker incidents took place, but it could still be a possibility.

But of course, there's a much more obvious reason why Josie could want to terrorise Summer Bay. She's Angie's cousin, and nobody hated Summer Bay more than Angie. Angie possessed stalker-like qualities herself, making Nick's life hell for months and setting fire to Summer Bay High. Could Josie secretly have some of Angie's evil streak in her? Could she be out for revenge on the town that killed her cousin?

Jesse McGregor

Summer Bay has treated Jesse relatively well, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be to blame. He's been to jail before, and he's well known for his violent personality. He's had many mood swings and had numerous fights with other residents, so there's nothing to say he couldn't take a turn for a worse and turn into the Summer Bay Stalker.

Then of course, we come back to Marc. He made a fool of Jesse when it was revealed that Marc and Josie had kissed, so maybe Jesse did what he did to frame him. Of course, that leaves the problem of the events that happened before Jesse and Josie's wedding, but with the search getting more and more urgent, we have to consider every option. Or is this just too much of a long shot?

Zoe McCalister

Zoe's reasons for terrorising the whole of Summer Bay are limited. For a start, she only moved to the area a few months ago when she got the job as a nurse at the hospital. But is that something we should be suspicious about? Why did she get the job in the first place - why Summer Bay over anywhere else? Or is this just paranoia setting in?

She's been the victim of the Stalker's reign of terror herself - she was attacked while on a date with Kim, leaving her with a cut arm. We didn't see the stalker, so the possibility for it to be her is still there, however unlikely it may be. What other reasons could she have? Could it have been her who stole the pills from the hospital? Maybe she's secretly on drugs and it's driving her to destruction!

Flynn Saunders

There aren't many reasons for Flynn to stalk the town he has lived in for years. His relationship with Sally may have been rocky in recent months, but surely that wouldn't be enough to send him over the edge. Plus, he's been working so many hours that he's hardly had time to go on a mass rampage.

Aah, although we have to remember what got him through all the extra hours - drugs! Could they have had more of an effect on him than simply giving him extra energy? Could they have messed with his mind, causing him to lose control of his actions and terrorise Summer Bay? We all know how bad drugs can be, they almost cost Kirsty's life, so it's certainly a possibility.
